Ok sick of the arguing here we go lets run scenarious :D.

Base defense - It could hold off the base from being taken for as long is it took him to die. Lighter mechs which is what would first be assaulting a bse would run circles around it and stay out of it's AC20 range. Ok you mod it to have an AC10 or AC5, guess what that light mech is no longer scarred of you at all and will still run circles around you and kill you.

Tonage Battles (Battles with a set tonage limit for your team) - This is the only roll I can think of the Urban Mech filling. If you have to many scouts already you could pop one of these in place and have it go in with an atlas or another slow heavy mech and support it. 1 The other mechs would have to take time to kill it allowing the other teammates to stay alive longer. It will do damage and has armor so it could take a little beating.

Assault - Useless couldn't keep up with faster moveing mechs and they would take you out before you could get to the base or urban area for cover.

Base defense - Where you hole team has to defend the base. Ok thought of another roll it might be ok in. If you don't have to move very far you can stay on base with everybody else and well defend the base. Replace your 20 with a 10 and pick at guys as they charge your base. Then again any other mech could do this as well and maybe better.

You could also make this the starter mech for when you first start playing. The default mech that everybody gets and they have to fight with it a bit to earn another better mech???

And that's exactly what i mean,

Practically you nailed it on most scenarious just 2 sligthy changes

On base defense someone can argue, well we can get 2 or 3x Urban and fight back with back, while still efficient and deadly for the light you are watching 3x Mechs on that, while the light can disengage, so yep practically Useless.

On Assault you can refit it with Gauss rifle and use it as cheap sniper line (wich is indeed a Hollander job) but still niche.

Also i like to state most of PPL want the Urbie on game not as Starter Mech. And be serious here PGI it's smart enough to choose a balanced line of Mech for starting, before add the Urbanmech.

I actually agree with this statement for most cases tanks or missile artillery would be fun to play dependent on the map. Here is the catch though in the mechwarrior universe there is a lot of unhospitable terreain that tanks would not be able to cross. Some planets had to have all there mechs pack jump jets. I guess you could pack one on a tank? Flying tanks now that would be crazy ><

Hehehe, it's been done.

I think Urbie the love mech should be in the game as a vanity pet, one that you have to spend 1 billion of your Cbills on and it runs along side your real mech and falls down alot, and farts.

So we have a heavy electronics light, a energy weapons light, and a missile light, what other Ballistic Hardpoint Lights are available for the time period?

The fact is, if mech are ever invented, its gonna be an urbie or maybe catapult. So urbie has to be included because it is most realistic of all the mechs.

Urbanmech is the ultimate griefer and troll mech! =)

I support them being in game but only in a battle mode with Urbanmechs vs Urbanmechs. Certainly wouldnt want to see them in my lance in a normal battle unless they are an opponent then its great =)

why? If you are in a fight restricted by bv then urbie is awesome. low bv, can be a sniper, brawl, medium range, or direct fire support. for its low battle value it is the most versatile mech

Would you use it? I wouldn't in MWo, but on the TT I did.

I really don't wanna say the urbie is too low tier to be used at intro level and i know i'm not a top tier player so maybe its wrong for me to feel that way..

maybe if you are at the point where you are so defeated that all you can field is a mech fixed to the bare minimum, where it's got the free 10%max armor and is missing it's limbs, an option will become available to pilot an urbanmech instead :)

oh god, please no, I don't mind the idea of having a mech to help you get back on your feet but... give us a choice, not just the urbie, I'm sure there's plenty would pick it, but I'd rather not :)

Let me just say that i'm not an anti-urbanite before you read onwards. Let's get serious here folks.

Are there any other light mechs out there that could replace the Urbie? I'm not asking if there are any other light mechs that can mount an AC 10 here.
I'm asking if there are any other light mechs that has any kind of ballistic weapon bigger than an MG out there while also having at least 3 variants with viable tech for 3049.

I first thought about the Jackrabbit but it has only the 8T and 9R variants that are viable so it's a no go.

I would rather not pilot an Urbanmech myself.
That being said I DO like it.
Reason: The flavour. :)
In the BattleTech/MechWarrior Universe there are ALLOT of 'mechs and they all have a back story. It might be slower than the Assault-class Atlas but remember the Urbanmech is Light-class and for a Light it is CHEAP and easy to make, and even easier to keep in repair and has room for a much bigger punch most other Light-'mechs (Stay shut down until Lance mates radio then start the cheap and nasty ambush). Perfect for a city militia to mount a defence on limited funds and even less skilled pilots.

Will I be playing one in MWO? Probably not. But who knows, if I am low on C-bills, called to a defend a metro or ruin setting..

~Edit start~
On second thoughts, I might use one in a match that had Class or Tonnage restrictions (this has not yet been confirmed a game type but if it were think of the possibilities, sure the Urbanmech may not be 'great' in allot of situations but I find having a mixed team does better over the median.

What they need to do is make the Urbanmech the highest tier mech and only the people willing to play the game and work for it can buy it =P

Urbanmech is THE underdog. Win with it and your a hero, lose with it and noone cares. Get a kill with it and hear the uproar, die with it and you can just laugh about it. Thats my main reason.
