This idea is just pure gold All hero/premium weapons would have the exact same stats as their regular counterpart. There is absolutely no p2win in this idea. It'd be like premium time.

Also, if these weapons got different sounds/geometry we could spiff up our mechs a bit. Perhaps they could sound different as well. Another possibility would be that the weapons could have different colors to further distinguish them. Cosmetic differences are optional, If you like the overall idea but don't want cosmetic differences, see question 3.

The following is the main idea,

While I would not remove Mech Packs, there are other things they can do that might require less effort from the art department. They can have branded weapons that increase XP/Loyalty earned. For example:

Posted Image

Magna Hellstar PPC - +5% Mech XP earned.
Donal PPC - +5% Loyalty Points earned.
Kinslaughter PPC - +3% C-bills earned.

Martell Medium Laser - +1% C-bills earned (max 6%).
Diverse Optics Type 2 Medium Laser - +1.5% Mech XP earned (max 9%).
Omicron 4000 Medium Laser - +1.5% Loyalty earned (max 9%).

Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC - ...you get the idea.

Posted Image

Other things to note.

When the enemy checks out your mech, they see the full name of the weapon instead of just generic LB 10X AC (they should see Imperial Code Red LB 10-X AC or something.

These weapons should be of a different color in mech lab and when seen by the enemy (just follow the MMO color code of green blue purple orange).

Higher 'quality' weapons can just combine bonuses.

Green - XP, Loyalty or C-bills
Blue - Two of the above
Purple - All three
Orange - All three and slightly higher. Can only equip one of this.

This doesn't require much work from the art team, but will require coding to include the new system and update the end of match rewards.

Also as a bonus:

PGI can make limited use branded weapons. Meaning these weapons have a certain number of matches before they break (paid ones should not break). But to give them out for free without flooding the market, each type can be given as prizes, end of match rewards or loot boxes and have 5-30 uses each before they break and disappear.

If you want to be sneaky, include the kill count on the temp weapons and before they break, give the player an option to buy it for MC to make it permanent and it retains the kill count stat.

Edit:

Other bonuses could include a chance of refunding a decent percentage of c-bill consumable costs at the end of the match should you happen to use one or send messages in the battle such as:

"Elizander has been killed by EliteMechWarrior's Magna Hellstar PPC!"

For the permanent weapons, add a kill counter ala Dota 2 items or a damage counter. Make friendly kills reduce this number too.

Edited by Elizander, Today, 03:11 AM.

I was thinking about this idea recently and the question I have is this, should all these boosting weapons cost the same price? Should a gauss rifle cost the same as a medium laser?

An added idea to these weapons (only if the art team has time):

1) New geometry or skin for weapons when equipped on mech (different lens color for lasers, different PPC glow, etc)
2) Different color when shooting (pink PPCs, purple lasers)
3) Different sound effect.

These weapons would give different bonuses depending on their slots or tonnage to prevent certain weapons having way more earning power.

Also, there could be a hard cap on how many boosting weapons you can bring or a max percentage. For example you could only get a 15% boost at most. Ppl couldn't just load up a Nova with SpLs & print cbills, etc.

Pgi could implement a filter to make it easier to find these weapons. Just add "special/boosted" to the available filters & done.

This idea would be fairly easy to implement because unless it's decided to add cosmetic differences, it'd just be a little coding & done.

BTW, please vote. Your opinion is worth sharing.

Well my dear TheArisen... you have truly made an original, great idea here!

I would full support such special "Brand name weapons", and would like to expand on your idea by adding not just brand name weapons, but also equipment!

Why not have Brand name engines, jump jets, heat sinks, targeting computers, ECM, BAP and such?

In the BT lore there are plenty of manufacturers for weapons and equipment, for both clans and inner sphere mechs, so why not use this?

Different brands could provide some small different bonuses, subject to the new balance pass, but this would GREATLY add to overall immersion!

I know it would be a lot of coding work.. but they are already doing that with the new mech rebalance.. And these bonuses would be smaller than those provided from modules..

Oh, I just had another idea...

if this was implemented, they could sell EQUIPMENT PACKS!

Why not deck-out your mech in (insert brand name) PPC's, engine and heatsinks for combined bonuses? Or even better, you could take up a contract for a particular company like saaay, Magna Hellstar, and they would sponsor you for a set period.. every time you killed someone with their equipment, they would reward you with a small cbill boost, and that message "Has killed with Magna Hellstar PPC! would be like a commercial for them...

And then after your contract is up, your legendary mechwarrior skills could be used to sponsor a different brand name..

And all this could be sold for MC and cbills.. which would give PGI yet another way of making money.

P.S.

And just imagine how cool all this would look like implemented, and added into a Solaris mode..

Seems like a good system for salvage especially and CW rewards. Get rewards specific to your house.

PUG
rewards blues only as salvage

CW
Steiner house rewards weapon X with orange bonuses
Kurita house rewards weapon Y with orange bonuses
either can reward X or Y with purple bonuses
Davion house rewards weapon Z with orange bonuses
Davion house cannot reward purple weapon X or Y
Add an AH for Merc units to trade items between houses
Poor explanation but basically each house would have a specialty and some houses would share some options but others would not overlap at all on the really good versions of things. Would add flavor to the houses.

No actual damage balancing to be done, just a cool way to get bonus XP, CB and loyalty.

brilliant idea TheArisen!!!

would add some flavor/fluff to the game (that is very dry) for almost no cost.

PGI, you HAVE to do this NAO!

Excellent idea ! What is proposed is absolutely fair as it offers no "advantage" to the user (same damage/range/heat/etc. stats as the normal weapons) - whilst allowing the user to lvl up faster and/or earn more C-Bills and/or Loyalty Points. It entirely avoids the problem of "Pay to Win".

I wish I could take credit for this idea but it belongs to Elizander. He posted this idea in this thread http://mwomercs.com/...-to-mech-packs/

He said he was too lazy to make a thread. I loved the idea so I literally copied his post to make the OP.

As ever, I'd like to know why someone would vote no. Perhaps the idea could be refined.

Sadly that would be too difficult to balance.

An additional benefit to this idea would be to allow you to earn extra c-bills on your favorite variants even if they are just the regular c-bill ones. It won't be as high as hero mechs but if you get enough bonuses on it perhaps PGI can allow you to reach +9%-15% c-bills if you have enough premium lore weapons. You can have fun and earn a little more too.

When leveling up a new chassis, you can equip the XP weapons, c-bill weapons for grinding, and loyalty weapons for CW (hopefully they update the rewards to make them worth grinding out too).

^ This

Also hero mechs could have a 39% - 45% cbill boost.

Another thing, if these weapons cost 150-300 mc I could see lots of ppl equipping the max/entire loadout with these.

First of all pgi moves away from weapon quirks, and pgi doesn't support the idea "who pays, that wins", because it will be a funeral of game for thousands of people and furthermore for pgi.

Read the original post Vetal. Those that buy these weapons only gain XP, Cbill and loyalty bonuses.
These weapons do NOT have better range, damage, heat efficiency, etc than normal weapons.

Spleen has the right of it. These weapons are kind of like hero mechs but without any DMG, range, etc difference between them and regular weapons.

Hero mechs have +30% cbills, isn't it enough? Don't make things too much complicated.

Part of the purpose of this idea (along with others) is to have alternatives to big mech packs so Pgi can put more time into other aspects of the game.
