Im not trying to put down the game or complain about fog and lasers (insert flashback) but I would sincerely like to know if and who is actually having a good time with it. I personally have horrible matches and by the look of the forums so does everyone else. There has to be some players on the other side right? Who are they? and what are they doing that the rest of us aren't? I used to have fun and was a decent pilot but after a half year break with no time to play I come back and I suck. Im not trying to blame a broken game for my lack of skill but this last month of playing again has almost broken my love for the game. So how about it? who has the positive feedback or stories of glory?

Well, I am still having fun, which is all that really counts. Otherwise, why still hang around?

This. It may not be perfect, but it's still a lot of fun for me.

This game is still fun.

But it was MUCH more fun in beta when we had 8v8, knockdowns, and weapons with some semblance of balance.

Could it be better, but currently MWO is the only MechWarrior game of its kind.

I play MWO not because I'm "sincerely happy with the state of this game" (I'm not), but because it has a unique pace and style of combat that I haven't found anywhere else and that I happen to be better at than any other multiplayer online game I've ever tried.

Attempting some semblance of staying on topic:

I personally have horrible matches and by the look of the forums so does everyone else.
There has to be some players on the other side right?

Yes, there do indeed.

Who are they?

Answering now your question about being "on the other side" from "having horrible matches", me, for one.

[W]hat are they doing that the rest of us aren't?

I've got a win rate of 0.58 (so, significantly more wins than losses) and tend to have one of the top scores on my team regularly even on losses. More than that, since lots of people don't equate "winning" with "good match", I also enjoy working on optimization of builds (reports that the meta is set and there is no room for experimentation have been greatly exaggerated; the problem is that most of the people telling you that are trying to justify bringing really stupid builds rather than working on real tests of effectiveness or really optimizing a particular function) and really enjoy the little refinements in technique that keep you near the top on scores even when they don't result in a win.

So how about it?

It's 'mechs. That's what we're here for, that's why we'll stay. PGI probably long ago resigned themselves to the fact that most of us don't especially love them as devs and are here for the IP, not for them.

who has the positive feedback or stories of glory?

My unit almost always loses when it tries to run in competitive leagues, if that makes you feel any better. We've kept coming back for more for about 2 years now, though. Some days I'm not sure why, but we keep doing it.

I had fun until PSR came in

now its just terrible, I'm staying because I hope PGI see sense and realise that they are badly advised and reverse the changes, otherwise I'm gone in 2016

Most of those who are doing better (in public queue) have a few things understood well:
  • Battlefield Awareness (includes Map, team, and enemy movement predictability)
  • Steady Aim
  • Min/Max Builds
  • And last but not least, and not often talked about; use other team mates to their advantage (this is not always a bad thing as synergies can happen as much as using each other).
I guess to answer the question; no.

Reasons are plentiful. But, as has already been said, only game of its type.

The core gameplay experience has been enough to keep me around, but the numerous bugs, poor optimization, and general imbalance of mechs leaves me "unhappy" with how the game currently sits. It's fun, but it could and should be much better

Then why stay? It can't be good for your health and general well-being if the game is causing you even a little bit of stress (and not liking something you're playing does cause stress).

I'm still hopeful, that one day, i'll log in and everything will be better.

Which is strange, because i'm not usually an optimistic person.

Same here. I still have hopes that one day this game will turn into something more than just team deathmatch.

Game itself is alright. The only bad thing about MWO really is..the players themselves. Or more accurately the two extremes of the playerbase...the ultra try-hards and the ultra casuals, both ruin games.

Gonadie, just had to fix this for you:

"Same here. I still have hopes that one day this game will turn into something more than just team solomatch deathmatch."

Because that's exactly what the crybabies want MWO to be, a solo game.

Actually no its the game, or people wouldn't be pointing fingers at others.
If the game was really good and had a proper population, no one would care about casuals and try hards

I don't want this to be a solo game. I never said that.

I enjoy it when I play, though due to the lack of depth I don't play that often compared to other games (because I have quite a few mechs already so I'm in that phase where I just log in to shoot things for the sake of shooting things).

Not having terrible matches by a longshot in Tier 3. Even when I lose, it's mostly break even in terms of PSR and that's enough for me to know I did a decent job even if we got obliterated.

There are a few things about me not being happy with the game, but despite that, I still play in a very active unit, which is a rewarding experience despite the game's many flaws.

Also, it is Mechwarrior, and considering no modern MW games exist, I'm going to have to settle for this one.

MWO can be frustrating at times for sure. But I think the same can be said for most games at some point. It's still my favorite game on my hard drive today, no other game has given me so many hours of entertainment since Diablo 2 / Tribes 2. And believe me those games had their own frustrating moments.

As others have said, in the end why waste your time on games that aren't fun to you?
