First time I took it on my WMC account back in the beginning (Blake Speare), I was an Atlas.

Decided to try again and see if anything is different, not remembering at all what my original question responses were and...

Atlas again. Posted Image

The more things change, eh? Posted Image

So reading back over this thread, I found where I originally took the test way back in December of 2015 and got Atlas.

Hilariously enough, I apparently took it twice back then to try and get a "cheaper mech" for what is an F2P account...and got Atlas both times! Hahahaaaa! Posted Image

Also, I'd forgotten that in the spirit of the challenge, I'd decided to start with the AS7-D, and then limit myself to chassis and variants that were available in 3025 for all future mech purchases (though would still let myself add newer tech upgrades to them).

Gotta decide what my next purchase will be along those lines since the "challenge" is no longer current.

You know, even though the Challenge isn't current any more due to the changes around skill trees, I'm working the last chassis I'd planned, and staying inside the challenge parameters for the heck of it. I'm waiting on the sites to go on sale, myself.

If you're looking at 3025 tech, the Hunchies and Cents seem legit. Are you sticking with rule of 3, or flexing it a bit to run just 3025 mechs?

If there is enough interest, I could tailor the challenge for the new skill system and open it for new challengers while grandfathering in all the currently active challengers since you have kept the unit alive for so long. It would be a bit of work, but I might be able to find time, especially since this is the only one of my "challenges" that has benefited from continued interest.

Well, because the Atlas is (just as I'd worried in the beginning) so dang expensive to farm on a F2P "alternate" account, I'd actually never made it through my initial 3, and had only just almost farmed up enough c-bills to by my 2nd one before taking the last year off playing.

I do have a free Centurion, a CN9-A (NCIX), from a giveaway, which fortunately still falls under the outlines of the initial challenge, but in the "post-challenge" environment, was trying to decide where to drop my c-bills, on a 2nd Atlas as originally planned, or something else.

Ended up, because of the current sale, developing an idea that seemed fun to me, that I think follows the spirit of the original challenge.

Because we only need one variant to level in the new system, I decided to work my way up through the timeline by going TRO by TRO and buying a single variant of the mechs currently available in the game from it. In each case, it will be the "base" variant, as presented in the TRO.

So today I started with TRO:2750 and dropped my c-bills on a CRB-27 Crab, and a BLK-6-KNT Black Knight. Will probably try and pick up a KTO-19 Kintaro next, followed by an HGN-732 Highlander and a KGC-000 King Crab.

After that, as I'm able, I'll work my way through TRO:3025.

I'm kind of imagining it as "Noble Atlas pilot Blake Speare, after being gifted a Centurion in reward for his efforts on the battlefield, stumbles upon a LostTech cache containing a handful of pristine Star League era mechs".

It's fun, and fits the realm of "possible in 3025" idea. Posted Image

Going to need a reinvite once my deserter period ends. Pulled my account over to my main accounts unit to test a unit permissions thing for a minute, without remembering that this would make me a loyalist...lol

How long until the deserter period ends?

Invite is out. When you're ready, clickety clickit.

Alright, I have done some brainstorming and I should be able to update the challenge fairly quickly and get revision 2.0 up and running, hopefully this weekend. In order for both original and revision 2 challengers to be recognized accordingly, revision 2.0 ranks will have to be created within the WMC unit and the original ranks should be made ""legacy" and should no longer be awarded to anyone who has not already earned them. I will have more information when the project nears completion.

Unit Admin meta follows:

We've got a practical problem there that remains unresolved, regarding creation of ranks. Currently, only the Unit Owner has permissions to actually create ranks. The assistants (ih8tevictors and I) can promote freely up to our own ranks within what we've already got, but (accidentally appropriately) only Caesar can create rank.

Right now, Caesar Octavius (3xnihilo) has the Owner's star. It really would be simple enough to assign rank creation ability to the challenge coordinator ranks if he were available.

(Please note that I want no part of criticizing him at all. He's allowed to not play or not as he sees fit. We're also allowed to be practical about what we need, and act accordingly. We can retain him as an assistant coordinator too, for when he comes back.)

In his absence, I think we can/ought to petition the devs on high, and ask them to reassign the Owner's star. The "new" owner can then delegate as needed to the relevant deputies, and whoever's available and empowered can set up the ranks as needed.

I'd recommend that Either you or I email support to get thast rolling (I'm really comfortable with unit admin stuff, I've done it before). Either this account, or your original challenge alt can take the Owner's star, then whoever that is can be sure to delegate all relevant powers to the Assistants.

I think some of the title shuffling depends on "how retired" your Challenge account is, Ed. If you don't mind it being a placeholder, then it's a slam-dunk easy call. If it doesn't feel right for you to use it as the placeholder because you want it to stay at the rank it's earned, then okay. You've got Ih8t3victors and my account to hold the star, because one of us tends to be around. Either one can fully vest the other (and Caesar) with the relevant powers to make sure we're always operational.

Okay, business meetings aren't always glamorous, but I'd rather clearly discuss the inner workings than have then be mysterious and opaque. Let me know what you want to do. We can take this offline to a PM with ih8tevictors, you and myself, if you think we need to do more hashing out and you don't want to clutter the thread.

Yay for admin warfare!

I'm friends with 3x (his 3x account is in 8DG with Rip), and can easily get in touch with him regarding guild organization stuff.

I'll shoot him a text message.

Also, we have an 8DG freeforums account that we've only JUST started using to organize our various games/units/guilds across the many platforms in which we play.

Might be easy enough to add WMC to the list of units on that page.

P.S. Adding I don't imagine he would be at all against having the "Owner Star" re-assigned to a more active account, so that may still be a good route for us to go.

That'd be helpful, thanks!

I think it'd probably be simpler if he logged in than it would be if we message support.

Also, I just wonder how he's doing. We haven't seen him in close to a year, so I hope life's treating him alright.

He's doing well! I think his main challenge is that his previous MWO rig isn't working to run MWO anymore. Well, that and, when do we parents EVER have the time for video games that we wish we did? Posted Image

We also run a Star Wars: Galaxy of Heroes guild, and have just started adapting our freeforum that we set up for 8DG to accommodate all the various games/units across the various platforms we game on.

Just sent him a text and we both agreed that by all means, WMC is absolutely welcome to sign up and we'll open a dedicated subforum for it.

Sign up here http://8dg.freeforums.net/

P.S. Just now realized I repeated myself almost verbatim in the posts here...

Due to the seasonal nature of my business i will respectively bow out of the ownership star. not to worry i will still be here doing my deputy duties, lore bits, and other stuff. i'll probably be more active this up coming summer then i was the last. last summer i had to walk away for a bit. RL and my stuttering toaster just made this summer unplayable. but new toaster and i may finally break out of tier 5.

OH BTW

could we please work an order of the urbie or something urbie into the challenge? love my little cheap trash cans. nothing is like a 3 urbie, flavor of the moth assault drop deck lol...... hmmm 3 urbie victor drop deck...

There happens to be an Urbie-dedicated unit, Cult of the Urbanmech [CotU].

It's literally all about the Urbies.

They hang out over in the Urbie mega-juggernaut thread under the Announcements subforum. That's probably the best place to get your Urbie fix ;)
