I didn't mind waiting for an Assault or Conquest drop with the old ques, not even a little. Skirmis is just so...boring.

Well you do not have to worry about defending your base or being capped out like you when it comes to Assault. As for Conquest well then you do not have to spend the last 5 minutes trying to corner and chase down a light mech.

So basically because people have at best room temperature IQ and are too stupid to defend base, build heat efficient mechs, cap points, or break off into groups to out flank the light, we get this garbage match maker and map selector.

In what reality is this an Improvement? In what reality is this going to INCREASE your gameplay variety? Everyone is and already is just voting skirmish and ice maps. That's all this game is going to be now, thanks to this system, and it won't matter what options PGI adds (VIP escort, Raiding, whatever) people are just going to select these maps, and skirmish over and over again.

If you want to run from point a to point b without engaging in combat with other giant stompy robots....then why are you playing a giant stompy robot combat game?
Seriously though, the best way to have less skirmish is to create MORE game modes that are diverse. The ONLY way to create more diverse game modes is to put us all in one matchmaker pool and allow a vote. You should be thanking them for this change and encouraging them to fast track the dropship assault game mode and any other new options so that skirmish has less likelihood of showing up.

Then that should be a clear indication that those maps and game modes need to be looked at to make them interesting.

Skirmish is only one option. There are only two mode options for voting. Right now, statistically speaking, you are guaranteed not to play skirmish on 1/3 of your matches. As they add more game modes, the chance that skirmish pops as a vote option decreases. What is hard to understand?

Exactly. Assuming all maps have the same RNG chance of coming up as a vote option, which I doubt, then PGI can look at their metrics. If Frozen for instance is selected 100% of the time it comes as a vote option, they can simply reduce the odds of it being selected as an option.
This is pretty easy stuff, guys.

Maybe if people used their brains, you can yanno..engage in combat against said targets who are taking your stuff. This isn't going to change ONE BIT, once they add more game type options. People are too stupid to go back to defend a stationary cap point, or to press forward into the enemy base. Do you really think they are going to be smart enough to defend a moving convoy in future mission types? Or protect one specific player and mech with a VIP mode?
All but TWO of my matches today, were Skirmish. That's not a 1/3 chance to end up in Skirmish. Actually of my 20 matches, EIGHTEEN today were ALL skirmish. No matter how I voted. 14 of my matches today, were on Frozen City.

if Terrible Therma had a 15% chance of showing up before, it still has 15% chance of being one of the 4 possible maps.
Of course with this new system the grab bag events will have to be revamped to reflect this system.

The other maps are a damn sight better than they used to be. (aside from Caustic which is pretty much unchanged)
You can have your frozen city night map murder pit skirmish 24/7 festival. I'm done with this garbage until it gets fixed.

Wait. Are you saying that out of 20 matches, 18-20 of them offered skirmish as an option? That would seem to be a bug. Granted, it is still a small sample size, but you would expect only 14 or 15 of those 20 to even offer skirmish as an option. If, however, they see that skirmish is winning 100% of the vote, they could simply change the RNG to only offer it as an option in 30% of matches, and have assault and conquest get offered the other 70% of matches. See how fun math is?

1) Does NOT improve the speed of matchmaking, not even by a long shot..
2) Forces me to play modes I dont want
3) DOES NOT alert me when voting commences and I've alt+tabed away to do something else..
4) Does not let me play on some less favored maps like Terra Therma (which I love)
5) Feels utterly pointless..
On the upside, I like the animations they added after voting concludes..
But it does not make up for total lack of controling my game modes or the fact that matchmaking is not faster..
