so....no..if it was'nt BT i would not be here.....

i played the Tabletop, still own over one hundret metal figures and the most TRO....read the books.....played BT The Crescent Hawk's Revenge...then Mechwarrior...MW II, then the 3dfx-only Version, then GBL, then Mercenaries, then MW3 with Pirates Moon, MW4 with Black Knight and Mercenaries.....and of course both Mechcommander Parts...i know the Gray Death Legion....the Wolf Dragoons....Kell Hounds...

then came those "DARK AGES"...and i read the books.....but in my opinion they were not the same as before.....

i have tried other Mech-Games..."Heavy Gear" for example......

but they don't have that Spirit.....

just the Names of the Mechs: "Atlas".....oh yes......"Catapult"......i love LRM......

so......

no...this is the Battletech Universe......and i love it

Sure I'd give it a try if it wasn't named "Mech Warrior". Would I have paid 24 € for it? Surely not. Would I have gotten hyped that much to stalk the forums months over months of waiting, bearing the weight of the -PENDING- button? No. But as I said, I would give it a try once it goes Open Beta, as I will give Hawken a try.

what most of you are seeming to misinterpret is that if this isn't BT, then it would automatically be some crazy frps that ol' dem youngins now play. I think saying that you wouldn't play it is actually kinda silly. It makes you sound like you actually won't enjoy the game, and doing it because you have some weird devout worship that you owe the franchise for some reason, that just by taking the name off the game, it automatically doesn't make it worth it. I dunno about you but even if it was made by another franchise but was the exact same, I would at least be like "Hey this is a lot like MechWarrior from back in the day, I think I'm gonna have to give it a try."

That's not a misinterpret. That is exactly what the majority are saying.

Yes I would. But i would not be near as fanatical about it and would grow tired of it most likely. I have loved BT for almost 30 years. Other robot stories have come and gone but none of them hold my intrest. BT has realism (within the context of its universe of course). Its not some alien cyborg race but basically a medieval story that borrows from the fall of Rome (lostech) the Dark Ages (not the one after Comstar goes bonkers but the one before 3050) (the succesor houses (read the barbarians/smaller kingdoms left after the fall of Rome) smashing the tech base to oblivian and then the Renaissance (finding the lostech database/clan tech). It even has Byzantine politics thrown in and the Catholic Church wannabe Comstar. Not a perfect fit I'll grant but it does give background and life to the story that Transformer's and their ilk cannot compete with.

How many of you will throw this game away if it becomes giant fighting robots and moves too far away from canon BT?

I have not seen any BT game for a long time, so I would play any robot-sim shooter or strategy (not random run-and-jump-robot rainbow eruption). I will probably drop it if it becomes pay2win or pay2damage with premium-only uber-mechs, premuim ammo/armor/components etc.

doubtful. the appeal to mechwarrior is that it already has a the setting and everything defined, and i like that setting. a no-name mech game would have to totally sell me on the setting again, which is something i might not give it a chance to do.

I wouldn't play this game if it wasn't Battletech.

But let me point out that it's because I wouldn't be aware of the game otherwise. I really don't keep up on what games are coming out, don't read the magazines, often I don't really care. I keep track of only a few games that matter to me.
One day when checking out the new Battletech news I ran across MWO, so I'm here.
So when I say I wouldn't play this game if it wasn't Battletech, it's not because it wouldn't interest me, it's because I wouldn't have heard about it.

I try any Sci-fi simulation. MechWarrior 2 was the game that got me to buy a PC and MechWarrior games have always been very good for their time. MechWarrior 2 was the number one selling game of 1995 if I remember right, so MechWarrior can have broad appeal to gamers who normally stay away from sims.

As far as TT, if they can make it work in an MMO, great. If every detail is not the same as in a TT dice game version, I am sure it was for good reason. With this in mind I think MWO will be a very good game that attracts that broad spectrum of gamers.

I triple cross counter with in BT combine arms were a viable tactic and even in lore the Clans were only stopped by Comstar who fielded a mixed force and yet in offical MW gaames, combined arms are treated as a joke. :3

I'll quadruple cross-counter examine with, "Uh, aren't the differences in the BT vs MW canon the point we're both trying to make?" :)

Starfleet Battles features the Kzinti from Larry Niven's novels. But I've never seen cat warriors scream-and-leap on ST:TNG. Same "universe", but with a difference in the canonical content.

So, yes, the different media (TT vs PC) share backstory, but there are differences. As such, MWO should be allowed a degree of "artistic interpretation" as needed for game mechanics, development schedules, and the business model.

Hawken looks interesting, but it's way too "run-and-gun" for my tastes.

I came for the Mechwarrior. But I'd stay for giant robots fighting each other in a realistic not arcady way.

I played EarthSiege, ChromeHounds, Mechwarrior, Starsiege. So of course I'd play if this wasn't MechWarrior.

I surely would play this game if it wasn't BT, but I will say this;

I'd play any giant mechrobotdeathmachinegamesimualtion. Played Earth Siege. will play Hawken.

But I am excited because it's Mechwarrior.
Would I be a part of any other forum that wasn't BT? Nope.

And that makes you some lucky, lucky people.

The fact that it's Mechwarrior drew my attention and got me to throw money at it. I voted no in the poll mainly because if it wasn't BT then it probably would never have popped up on my radar. Big bad robots blowing the crap out of eachother is fun for the whole family, but for me a significant part is the BT lore and 2+ decades of story lines that go with it (with a dash of nostalgia for my highschool days playing TT).

So no, if this wasn't BT I probably wouldn't be playing it because I wouldn't even know about it. Might have checked it out if a friend clued me in or something, but I certainly wouldn't be checking the forums several times a day staring at that 'PENDING' and wanting to choke the life out of my monitor :).

I'd still give it a go, but probably wouldn't have gotten the founder's pack.
