I hesitated, and I didn't even really look into the forums 'til the announcement of the Jagermech, I signed up immediately, it was a staple mech of my TT days, and it even looks just like my miniature, so I'm in.

I will support any company that will allow my TT lances to exist, even if it is only digital.

They have already made 1.5 mil off current founders pack sales and will most likely break 2+ mil by the end of the sale.

This should be more than sufficient to keep the devs fed and ensure a fully functional game on release.

Based on the projected release date the mentioned funds should be sufficient.
However in terms of running a company the funds are not all the much once you factor in salary, benefits, medical, office space, utilities, IT, etc.

I agree. especially since we're "founding" something already in the beta test phase.

When you're trying to pitch a sell, a little hands on never hurts, Unless of course you spent so much of your budget on advertising you had little left for game development, like some large and well known game publishers do.

Sounds like you have a choice to make, Electric Crow, as others have stated, either you want to support the game that we've all been waiting for, or you don't. Yes, it's a leap of faith and yes, $ available is a consideration, but in the end, it's your call. why post about this???
we, the Founders, are all hoping this game succeeds & are willling to support it. enough said.

The devs posted this video about microtransactions to help explain their F2P model and it really helped me make my decision.

Being a founder = just like pre-ordering from a local retailer.

Deal with it.

Yeah. Have you ever pre-ordered a game? Not all of them have a demo/beta before launch. Same diff

Founder status isn't preorder status sadly. It's akin to supporting a Kickstarter project instead, like the Ouya which I just backed on Wednesday. And like the Ouya, which could theoretically fail iteself into being a $99 paperweight ... this game could also theoretically be a horrible investment. And thats the key word, investment. If you get to try the game, you're now an informed buyer, not a founder. And heck, similarly, us founders aren't actually founders (duh) ...those are the people/company who invested way more than $120 into creating in this game hoping to bring home a phat paycheck.

TLDR:

Company Founders > "Founders" > Pre-Order > Post-Release Buyers in terms of risk/reward ratio.

I was a founder for a much larger title... look where it sits now... :) Do I want to risk it... again?

TLDR:
Founder for Hellgate London.

You played BT back in the day, I'd say if you don't have much experience w/ the genre, give World of Tanks a spin.

If you like the game style of WoT then you should have your answer

That's all it is. I know several folks that won't pre-order for the same reasons as the OP. I know some that will ore-order but won't cough up for the CE. *shrug* It's all personal preference and there's no harm/shame in wanting to see a game before you spend hard earned, potentially very tight funds on it.

I just can't get a chance to at least try the game.
I played Battletech in grade school and LOVED it, now, nobody plays the table game so this is my one last hope. I'd be happy to be a founder but I have to at least try the game.

I would love to play the game too!

The decision to purchase any founder package is definitely a choice that comes down to personal values. There is nothing wrong with being careful with your wallet, and I have to respect that as a positive trait for a fellow consumer.

Unfortunately, the only way that someone could play the game first would be to get lucky enough to be selected into joining the beta or if they decide to extend the founders promotion till the first few weeks of launch. Since game will be going with a free to play model players will be able to play before making any purchase... so your in luck there!

The big question is, when will the founder promotion expire?

Edit: PS. It must be such good motivation by having a large amount of careful consumers who are just waiting to drop down Cash on this game once they see if it meets their expectations or not. Just like a big pot of gold waiting for the Devs if it's a job well done!

if you miss out on getting a founders pack you will never see a deal of the like in the game again and you will regret the decision to not get one later on if you come to love the game i would say FUNK IT its 30$ min that's like half off a new game release what a DEAL

You know, any comparison to WoT just make me edge away slowly from the "Buy" button (and frankly what I've seen/heard, there are indeed a lot of comparisons to make). Not that the concept of WoT is bad, I played a lot of World of Tanks since I'm a WW2 tank afficionado. But given the game was quite limited, it was mostly based on a wide variety of promises. Most of which never materialized or came a year late, and so forth. WG is a poor joke of a company. I have no experience with Piranha, but one can only hope they're not a train wreck - from the player point of view - like WG is.

I just took WoT for what it was... it was free. I could run around and shoot things and it had player progression. That's all I expect from MWO, if it's stable and runs well I'll be content. Any more than that will just be AWESOMESAUCE on top. I'd say without beta access, you need to peruse the forums, watch a couple videos, think about how you likled the WoT GENRE (not the studio) and make the decision that's right for your situation. I don't think it's a decision you'll regret for life either way, just depends on what matters to you and what you expect versus what is feasible.

I am starting to wonder what is with all the demand to play this game before plunking down as little as 30 bucks to up to 120 bucks on a package. Look, paying anywhere in that sphere is no different in the most basic sense than going to GameStop and doing the nerdly thing and plunking down as little as 5 bucks to flat out paying for the game well in advance. Look, I get this game is F2P, I really do, but, please understand, there is no reason that they MUST let you try this game out before you pay them for a founders package, because they are not demanding it of you. It is there as an option for you, if you can do so, to financially support them and this game.
