so im just wondering what made you guy buy a founders pack before you even tried the game ive played plenty of the series but a mmo is a completely different animal. However i understand if you buy the founders thing you get stuff and access but are you sure its worth it before even playing the game? In my opinion its like getting married before going on your first blind date.. she could be fat she could be a hill billy missing teeth could even not even be a woman who knows. So what made you confident in your purchase?

I've been buying games before I've ever played a single bit of them for well over a decade. This is not really any different aside from the fact that I'm essentially going 'look i was going to probably spend this much on the game anyways so i'll just spend it now'.

I bought it because I've been a fan of Mechwarrior for as long as I can remember and the look of the game from everything I see mirrors Multiplayer Battletech: 3025 and I LOVED that game.

I am a Battletech addict and I have waited too many years for a new Battletech sim, I would give cash support to the development, even if there had not been good gameplay videos to explore in order to decide if I thought it was going to rock or not.

The stuff I get for my investment is just the cream filling in the donut.

Your analogy is quite off there. It's more akin to Piranha sitting down in a room full of investors and asking them for money to make a game. This is well, how most businesses work (though for video games most go through a publisher rather than investors).

There is no game, only an idea at that point and companies ask for several millions if not tens of millions up front for an idea, and look at all the wonderful things that came out of it, like washing machines, cars, and the internet. The founders are akin to those investors, taking a risk on an idea and a promise without actually having anything. Well ok, we have more than an average investor would have, and that is videos, screenshots, and concept art, which is way more than an idea written on a napkin.

It all comes down to risking something you can afford to lose, or betting on something you feel is a sure fire thing.

There's plenty of info about the game. This 'blind marriage' thing you are talking about is nonsense.

1) I knew I was going to play the game and getting a discount on mech cash was a good financial idea for myself
2) I view it akin to preordering - I pay up front for what I believe will be a good game based on the what the devs have shown me so far
3) Being honest - I kinda wanted the custom skinned mech. Somewhere down inside there's an elitist ******* B)

i have been waiting for the game for a long time. That being said, learning the game was ftp made me want to make sure i at least supported the development how i could. While i'm not obligated to help, i like mechwarrior a lot. I intend to make sure they are able to continue the game as much as i can. The mechs did not hurt my decision either, i want to try every mech i can get my hands on.

I was also skeptical at first about the Founders program because I wasn't sure how good or bad this game will be. Having seen some other big named and hyped up games crash and burn, more so these days than in the past, it really put me on the fence on whether I want to plop down money or not. But after thinking about it at length yesterday, I decided to go for it because in the end, I loved the Battletech Universe and the old school MechWarrior and BattleTech games. So going back to the roots, I invested in the Founders program, hoping the little bit I contribute to the grand scheme of things will help make this game just a little bit better because of the show of support.

Just so you know, there are many places in the world that actually do this. It's called an arrange marriage, and as I mentioned above, is a completely wrong analogy for founders' packs.

Because I wanted to help them bring the game to fruition. MW\BT games have always been among my favorites and I know I'm going to be a part of it. B)

ah im really picky about what i spend my money ive never pre bought a game i was really tempted to become a founder just because of the name in the credits thing B) but i like to know what im spending my money on. I work in a coal mine so every hour i spend in there is not very enjoyable so spending a half a days pay on something i might not like is a big decision in my head. If they still have the founders thing after open beta and i play it i might buy it then

Shrug. If I read articles about a game, and I'm interested in it, I normally buy it. Its not as if I let IGN or gamespot reviews make my choice for me. I've checked out the faqs, pdf primer, youtube vids, etc. Game looks like fun, so I bought it. Never done F2P before. And it's not an MMO.

My reasoning can be summed up in a single sentance:

This is a game I've played for almost as long as I can remember via PC, SNES, Tabletop, and Xbox(though the Xbox version was a pile of frozen sad on a fail-stick IMO), and I want to do whatever I can to keep one of my childhood playgrounds alive.

I don't generally drop 120 dollars on a game, but this is Mechwarrior and well while I like the stuff they offered in the Legendary pack, I did this more to support the folks building a game that is in a setting that I have always loved. Blindly throwing money at it? Yeah maybe but worst case I am out some cash best case I get to play a game that will provide so many hours of entertainment and fun that the cost ends up not being that bad.

See you folks on the field of battle soon
