For starters, $120 is pretty close to the standard price tag for a collectors edition of a new release game here in Australia. I'm also looking at something like $30 for a trip to the movies for 2 hours entertainment, and I expect way more than 8 or 9 hours of entertainment from MWO. So the price isn't really that bad by comparison.

Mainly though, I'm voting with my wallet. This is an entire genre that has been pretty much ignored by publishers for the last decade, or relegated to half baked knockoffs at best. You can bet that they will be watching closely to see if this turns a profit, and I wan't them to see that it's a genre worth taking seriously.

I bought the Legendary package because I've been playing some form of BattleTech/Mechwarrior since 1983-5. Can't remember exactly, been a long time B) . Their is no other game universe out there that I enjoy as much as BT/MW. I look at is as no different than pre-ordering a box title albiet more expensive. I went Legendary over elite in part simply because I could and in part because I didn't want to be forced to choose a mech. This way I have them all, plus the $80 MC, plus a few months premium that will likely get wasted while I wait to get a computer able to handle the game.

Worst case scenario the game never launches and I wasted my money. I've wasted more than $120 before. Sucks, yes. Not end of the world though. I can afford it. On the other hand, if the game takes off and is successful as other MMO games like Eve and WoW the ability to break out a founders mech of my choice 5+ years from now will be pretty cool.

To me, the potential of this game is that it can be everything I've ever dreamed of in a game. Persistent universe, real roles for each mech class, not pay to win(even though I plan on spending more), and the rich history of the BT universe. I loved WW2OL when it came out but I feel they never really were able to move past their launch by much. It's still just europe. It got better but I had always hoped for more. Hopefully MWO delivers. It has the potential to and I'm more than willing to be patient. PGI just needs to communicate well, set expectations, and then deliver.

so im just wondering what made you guy buy a founders pack before you even tried the game ive played plenty of the series but a mmo is a completely different animal. However i understand if you buy the founders thing you get stuff and access but are you sure its worth it before even playing the game? In my opinion its like getting married before going on your first blind date.. she could be fat she could be a hill billy missing teeth could even not even be a woman who knows. So what made you confident in your purchase?

It's just like pre-ordering a game where you pay it off in full. Specifically I wanted to help fund the game and as a F2P game there was a chance I was going to spend money on it anyway. Since I bought the elite founders I get 80 dollars of in game currency to spend which is probably more then I'll ever spend real money on throughout the course of the titles lifespan.

Another reason to buy the founders pack is in case they have a rocky launch they have a monetary buffer instead of saying:

"we just shelled out millions for infrastructure on this and the player base has dried up because of your launch!"

Instead they have that buffer from the founders pack to assist in covering the costs.so they can continue to run the game and turn it around. However that depends on how they create value for us the consumer.

It's not just a game we have not played yet. It's the first MechWarrior game to come out in 10 years, and from the screenshots and vids the game looks to have incredible graphics. Plus the way the devs talk about the game? I don't think they're just trying to hype us up for a bad game. And hey, Legendary gets their name and player name in the credits.

I don't think many other good games are coming out for the rest of this year anyway. What's a little money compared to everyone's favorite series?

You see it as marrying your blind date before you meet her, I see it as spending money on a date before you know you and the really pretty girl will click. It's worth the gamble. B)

but if you want to put it in a semantic kind of point of view it would fit in the mmorpg category as well because you are assuming the role of a mech pilot fighting over whatever the back story for the reason your fighting the other players. I understand that alot of people dont like being put in the mmorpg playing nerd stereotype.

I would totaly nerd out on a game that was set up and run like WoW only it was the Battletech Universe, as long as when I got in my Mech it was first person view.

But anyway I will not tell you where to spend your money. It is an F2P game, and there are plenty of us willing to support it via cash investment.

My reasons for getting the Founders:

1.) It's a BattleTech/MechWarrior based simulator that we haven't seen a new one of in 10 or 12 years.
2.) Nothing helps a designer more than not having to worry about, "Am I gonna eat this week?"
3.) It's a BattleTech/MechWarrior based simulator that we haven't seen a new one of in 10 or 12 years.
4.) I get the feeling of being able to contribute to the health and well being of the game.
5.) Did I mention it's a BattleTech/MechWarrior based simulator that we haven't seen a new one of in 10 or 12 years.

Simple really.

Thanks,
Marko

i see so much potential in this game... i love mechs too. in the not so off future this will be an awesome game.. i think these developers see a brighter, more clear vision of what makes MW line of games great. They will bring it to a new level of awesome never seen before. I have listened to thier visions and hurdles they deal with and they have it figured out where they want to go with it. I invested in game to help it grow.. and to show the people working on this that we believe in thier visions.. The question that they asked themselves," Will my efforts be accepted by MW fans" They now know the answer, a huge hell yes we love what you are doing..

i played world of tanks for free for 8 months before i started spending cash there, and since then have spent way more than $120. I played Eve online for 3 years before unsubbing and that was way more than $120 too

i just figured this time i'd put the cash down up front and get the bonuses to all my months of gameplay. if it turns out to be a terrible game i wont do it that way for whatever the next game is

btw the leaked beta footage made me feel really good about my decision. the game looks perfect so far

hate to break it to you it is a mmo definition of mmo is massive multiplayer online game at no point did i say mmorpg

12 v 12 is massive? At what point does it go beyond multiplayer? Don't get me wrong, I love MMORPGs. This one, though, just seems like a multplayer sim, especially until they implement the persistent world system with factions controlling planets.

Aiding Piranha as they develop this game is more significant than stuffing $120 in my mattress. Especially when you recognize that $80 value of that $120 will be returned in game currency, adds four mechs right off the bat, and offers what looks like an optimal solution for PvP, the value I expect to gain far exceeds the value of my investment.

Thus I am helping keep talented people employed, thus helping to save the global economy, providing my share of stimulus money by an act of free will, and all for an approximate net loss of $40 dollars.

Compared to a chancy $40 political contribution the opportunity is a good value. Compared to a couple of dicey movie tickets/popcorn it is a very sound investment.

Wiki Says
A massively multiplayer online game (also called MMO and MMOG) is a multiplayer video game which is capable of supporting hundreds or thousands of players simultaneously. By necessity, they are played on the Internet, and feature at least one persistent world.

I know how much Mechwarrior meant to me when I was young. I am 29 right now and I miss those days. I played Mech 3, Mech 4 and Mercs... and had a ridiculously good time while playing. I met a lot of good friends during my Mech career and I'm hoping to see them all again and shoot the sh*t. I gladly paid the $120 for the Legendary Founder pack.. it's basically my way of making sure this game succeeds. This game meant the world to me and I hoping it means the same to others too.

It's been 10 years+ since a new Mech game has come along. I don't count MWLL.. I would have paid $200 for a Legendary Pack just to show support and make sure this game goes the distance.

first intention was support a well known gameforge (piranha) while they make a piece of entertainment. i'm sure, we will have lots of hours of fun with it. The "little" bonus 3 month specialtime, and the 4 mechs are a nice gimmick but not the mainpoint i spend money for. But i will take my little Atlas and burn your a$$es - muahahahai play pc-games for more than twenty years, and i have payed a lot of money for crap, buggy ****, its good to pay for the really cool stuff. period.

As voiced before, the pricing isn't that different from walking into a store and picking up the "boxed" editions ($30 for a value game, $60 for a mainstream, $120 for a collectors edition), and then you would be paying a subscription for some of those games monthly as well.

Besides, it's Mechwarrior! Played the tabletop edition for years, bought (almost) every version that ever was released for PC and Xbox (as well as some bad imitations that i wished i hadn't).

But lets really sum it all up in a couple of key words: Faith and Hope.

120 dollars max to a hobby, is in no way comparable to marriage, or even a blind date, since we have seen snippits of the game already. Your analogy needs work.

Did it becuase of the C-bills boost on all 4 mechs. Also means I have a mech in each weight class to rely on, sort of like 4 old faithfulls.
Also I couldn't choose between the CAT and the Hunchy :D
3 months of premium membership also gives nice XP boost.

Oh another reason. Since coming back to the forums and engaging the community I've been playing a lot of MW4: mercs from MekTek with my Mercenary Corp and I have to say it's the most fun I've had in a long time with the MechWarrior franchise. I know it'll get even better when MWO comes out.
