So what made you confident in your purchase?

Because I can.
Because I'm a fan and the $120 is a drop in the bucket compared to the time and funds I have invested in BattleTech and MechWarrior.
As others have pointed out your analogy with a blind marriage is a strawman, I've seen game images/video/dev interviews/ect.

Its voting with my wallet. Hopefully by paying for something sight-unseen it gives PGI an influx of cash to continue development on something that I want to be able to play. Its a vote that I want to see Mechwarrior/Battletech games again.

Its pretty simple for me. I have loved Battletech and MechWarrior a very long time, i seem to have waited forever for this incarnation to arrive so the chance to support the development and to get my name in the game was too good a chance to miss, Yes i know elite founders dont get thier name in the game, but im going to upgrade to Legendary in the next few days.

$60 US is the cost of a retail game.

At worst, If for some reason I don't like the game (doubtful), it will stick with me like The Force Unleashed II did, i.e. I'll whinge about it for a bit, then carry on with my life.

At best, money well spent.

Also, the Legendary pack's features didn't entice me enough. I don't care about my name in the credits, and I didn't want an Atlas or a Hunchback enough to pay money for them.

I'm just happy to have done my part.

EDIT: Also I'm a starving music student in college right now. Money is not exactly flowing forth for me.

Like everyone else has expressed. It's BattleTech. That alone is reason enough. Aside from that, there is a wealth of information on this game, concept art, gameplay video, screens, etc. I often pre-order games. This is not much different than that. Yes, it is f2p, but if it wasn't I would have put down $60 anyway. Based on the information that is out there on this game. Ignore the f2p and ask yourself this. If this was a boxed game that you would buy at a retail store, would you buy it? I would, that is the reason that I have purchased the founder's package. Not to mention that this is the first BT game in years. I would like to see that it is supported for a long time and possibly PGI or someone else will make another due to the success of this one and we will not have to wait 10 years for another BT game.

I have been a fan since I was around 5 years old. Back then my brother and a group of his friends played Battletech and Mechwarrior regularly, and over the years I saw some epic battles going on with all the Ral partha miniatures and the hex boards. When I was old enough to play my brother had gone off it and sadly I never been able to play the wargame/tabletop roleplaying goodness, but I have been a fan none the less. I have read the books (though none of the novels) I have my personal favourite mechs and I even watch the cartoon series every now and then for laughs. More importantly I have played a good majority of the PC games released over the years and have been a huge fan.

When this was announced I knew I was going to drop money on this product, it was a no brainer. The gameplay looks great, the tactics used follow the wargame as closely as they can and the mechs looks amazing for modern redesgins. I didn't drop as much as I would have liked, but I still wanted to make that contribution to the developers, because I know this will be one of those games I play again and again.

Purplebullet may be confused about why people have paid before they played so to speak, but I would say thats because he doesn't get why Mechwarrior Online is so important to many fans of the battletech franchise.

I think the $120 pack is a little much, but I don't see what's unreasonable about the $60 version. Really, I just look at the $12 version as the collectors edition. I STILL think the $60 one should have two mechs and the $30 one get one mech, but I don't think their choice is completely unreasonable. $60 for a game I know I'll probably play for at least two months is not a bad deal. Most new games these days cost that much and don't give me near the potential this game has. PLUS, I'm a huge Mechwarrior/Battletech fan. I like the franchise and want to see this succeed. I don't mind putting a little money up front to help see the game succeed. It may turn out horrible and be a huge cash farm like a Zynga game in the end, but I am fairly sure I can get two to three months out of it given what I get for my $60. I'll give you that I don't know for sure if I'll put up with their business model in the long run, but I'll at least give it a shot. For me, it's just going to come down to how painful they make the grind and cash shop. So far, I haven't seen any coclusive indication that there's a retarded imbalance between free to play and pay. I don't mind dropping money now and then, but I don't want to be forced to do that it you call your game free.

I look at it this way. I've dropped $60 on other games I've never played and generally was not disappointed. I've loved BattleTech since back in highschool where a buddy and I would play in my parents hallway and use shoes for obstacles. We didn't have the core-rules only the 3050 RSB. We knew vaguely what weapons did from the CHR game, but made up our own rules for this new fangled 3050 tech.

The $120 dollar pack... I would have, but with holidays coming up in a few months and refinancing my mortgage to pay MORE per payment and get rid of it... Nope. Couldn't justify the expense.

I knew I will play MWO whenever it comes out. Free to play or not, I'd pony up to play it. Even as a free to play game, I knew I would eventually spend money on it in some manner. When the Founders program came up, I saw it as a chance to support the development of the game and get in on the ground floor of a game I really wanted to see completed.

The fact that my $60 will eventually be $80 of game money, that's cool.
The fact that I get a free mech with a couple perks, that's cool too.
The fact that I will have early access to check out the game before it's eventually released (even if it got pushed back from July 19th to August 7, and even if it gets pushed back again for some reason) is cool too.

I see it as if someone came up to me and said, "Hey, I'm making a Battletech game." I'd say, "No way! Tell me about it!" They'd say, "Well, it's like this..." And I'd say, "Hey, that's awesome. Here, here's $60. Let me know when you've got it done and count me in."

I'd do the same thing if someone came up with an awesome Shadowrun MMO. Not an RPG, not a FPS, not some turn based BS, a wide open MMO with as much customization and variety of the tabletop game. "Thank you for making this. Here's my $60, let me know when it's done."

I chose to purchase a Legendary Founder package because:

1. We've been needing a new 'Mech game for a while now, and this one has been looking pretty darn awesome since I first heard about it ... even before the videos/artwork/screenshots were available.
2. Never played a F2P game before. Might as well go all-out right away.
3. Never played the multi-player version of any 'Mech game before, and I figure I'll need a little help in getting up to speed.
4. The more money we pump into the company, the more cool stuff gets pumped into the game. That's how I hope it works anyway...
5. The Founder 'Mech boosts are lifetime, so if the game is even moderately successful we'll be getting way more than our money's worth out of the investment.

I've played many many many games, some good some bad.

Tons of MMOs (Wow, Aion, Rift, Tera, GW, GW2 Beta, Star Trek Online, DC Universe Online, Maple Story, and many more I'm forgetting) Tons of FPS games, Puzzle, Strategy, Rhythm, Racing, Action, Ect. I could fill this thread with things I've played. I've also spent a lot of money on games, Buying a Warhammer 40k Army, Lifetime Subs to DCUO, STO, Hellgate: London (Before it died and went f2p under a different dev) Hundreds of boxes of Magic the Gathering to build decks, play with friends, and collect. Nearly 3 grand worth of games on my Steam account (Using current prices, not how much they cost when I bought them).

Very few games have gotten me as excited as I am for Mechwarrior: Online, Especially without having let me try them first. Some of my fondest memories of my earlier gaming years we're spending time at a local card shop on the weekends playing MW: Dark Age/Age of Destruction with friends, and then going home and playing MW4: Mercenaries with a few of them. So overall, $120 is chump change for something I will probably end up playing for years. I've spent more on things I've enjoyed less.

TL:DR

1. Got the Money

2. Love the Battletech universe

3. Gamers gonna Game

Well buddy i see your not married. Its exactly like that.
MWO is a hillbilly no teeth over weight could need a sex change before it's all over game currently...
but its a smart game so all will be good in time... like a good marrage.
As Ron White would say you cant fix stupid but everything else can be fixed. An like a new wife mwo will in time become the most beautiful perfect game you ever laid eyes on.
She will need lots of support an patients in the begaining if mwo will become over time our perfect game.
May need an exercise program a dentist visit or 3 an a trip to the surgeon along the way.

Basically we all are investing money and time into what we know our lady/wife/game will be in spite of whatever short comings we see now.

When it comes to F2P games such as this one that take my interest I am more than willing to invest money into it to further development. As such I believe that I can help make the game what it should be in the end. The more money the developer has to work with the more likely they'll have the resources to put out a product I'll enjoy when it's finished. Usually by offering such funding early on you receive perks and incentives that let you know that you helped make it happen; in this case we get mechs!
