Quite simply, I want to pay for it. Servers don't run themselves and I want to play this. Look what happened to Chromehounds. It's online function is no longer supported, and that's 95% of the game! It's now a disc with only a few missions and ~30 minutes of play time with 90% of the weapons and modules cut from the build.

Because I can see the future.

I'm drunk also, but I can see the future.

It involves lots of pain and suffering, so 120 bucks is really not that big of a ******* deal.

I bought into it for a couple of reasons.
The lore and universe is awesome and I grew up on the games from BT: Cresents Hawks Inception all the way through to MW3 and the MechAssault series plus a little bit of the MW p&p rpg.
And also I figured it was the best way to get set up for the game rather than slowly drip feed money into it while getting less in return (as far as extras go anyway). Though I'll probably spend the cost of it again down the road. So double win for PGI :-D

Well in the "old days" most games were bought sight unseen. so nothing there new for me.

But in the case of MWO, or reather the battletech universe for me its more of a how could i not. I still have the first ed boxed set on a shelf not 10 feet away.

I played the old mechwarriors till they shut down the servers. My question wasnt if i would get my cash worth, but given that the mechs are mine to keep I have a feeling the investment will pay off.

And if not? hells man it's only a game I have lost cash much worse ways.

I loved playing Battletech 3025, and this game is well worth my investment. I greatly look forward to launch! :)

Couple of considerations went into it for me:

- $60 is what I'd pay for just about any game. Why not support the folks who are bringing BT/MW back into my life with my money and help them make the game better.

- Always been a fan of the series/universe. Been playing for almost 20 years now. There's no way I wouldn't play this and I'd be buying it off the shelf if it was release that way instead.

- From what they've released so far the game looks fantastic. I would happily spend money on it.

- I've spent more money for less enjoyment (*cough* WoT *cough*).

- And in the end, really, what is $60 bucks in the great scheme of things if it will bring you 40, 50, 100 or even 500hrs of entertainment.

- I'm proud to be a Founder and have that badge - it means I was here on the ground floor when it all got started. Hell, I'll probably even upgrade to Legendary... :)

Some friends of mine were getting pretty excited about this game, got me to look into it. I want to play games with them, this looks very much like a very fun game, social, cool features, balanced gameplay for teams/groups of friends to go in and shoot stuff together in a tactical manner, etc.

I looked at the available packages.
I don't really know what play style I will enjoy the most until I try them all out. I know which think I will enjoy, but that's likely not going to be the case, so I bought a package that allows me the most flexibility at the beginning while I figure out where I'd prefer to settle in.

That's it in a nutshell.

Lol.

No kidding.

I've pissed away tons more cash in much worse ways at different points in my life.
Hell, here in Japan, a parking ticket runs about triple what I paid for this game (I played the exchange rate like a boss).

I figure, for the price of 5 movies in the theatre, hell, 3 movies in the theater if I take my wife along, I'll get more enjoyment out of this game than what I'd get otherwise. 3 movies runs at just less than 6 hours, pretty much. I'll spend WAY more time than that on this game, guaranteed.

Became a founder to support the franchise. Been a longtime MW fan and love any vehicular type combat game.

Mostly though I just wanted beta access, I'll be moving end of August and won't have my computer till January/February-ish, and even then who knows how long it'll take for me to get intarwebs hooked up. Gotta get my fix in now!

I'ts ben a long time coming and if can help be a part of it in any way i'm down.

I feel much more comfortable supporting this than i am with my other half sending 100$ + to the world wildlife fund a year and all she gets to show for it is mailing labels, and a warm fuzzy feeling inside.

I have a right to warm fuzzy feeling to don't i ? :)

Well, to put my two cents in on the subject. I'm in agreement that as a fan of the battletech/mechwarrior universe I wanted to show my support for the project, although the benefits the devs threw in cinched it for me. I remember playing the various computer games up through the mid/late '90's there wasn't anything I really saw as immersive as this game promises to be. Before I purchased it though I watched all the dev promo videos posted to the site and looked for more on youtube and all I could do was grin in geek-out happiness. I have no regrets about my decision and I'm still trying to get my gaming group to play the TT battletech game and the Mechwarrior RPG to hopefully spread the addiction/enjoyment of the games.

Edit: On top of the $80 in cash to spend in-game, the cost of the 4 mechs (and extra mech bays to put them in) more than pays for the $120 for the legendary founder package.

Easy to answer:

* I love mechwarrior games. There hasn't been one in too long a time and now there is one. I want to play it.
* I've yet to play a game that I didn't buy first. This is no different in my opinion. The cost seemed to represent value for money to me.
* On top of that, I got certain benefits from purchasing a pack. Only if I bought it on time, that is, so I did. Again, the purchase was value for money and when I weighed up the cost of it all, the Founders Pack seemed the best option. I'd rather have paid a little too much and got the value, than have paid a little less and not gotten the goods.
* I'd already had a look at the game as best I could, by viewing the various videos available. Looked like the stuff I wanted to play.
* I wanted to support the makers of the game - they've put in huge amounts of time, energy and effort and I believe they deserve a reward for making the rest of us happy mechers.

I like shooting giant walking mechs with laser beams. I don't believe any other reason is necessary.

I am gullible and really want a new Mech game. Every attempt creating one must be rewarded, so even if this one fails eventually, someone will still see the effort worth it.

Ultimately, the talk about what this game is trying to achieve is making me highly interested in it, and I want it to succeed and fun to play. It could still end up being a disappointment, but that's a risk I was just willing to take. In the end, it's not that much money and fits into my budget for luxury articles. :)

For me it's about telling 'the industry' the games I want to play. It hopefully will show some of the smaller developers that they do not need a big mainstream publisher to be interested in funding their games and therefore open themselves up to compromise. They can still produce the games that people want without having to sink into the tired formula that the big publishers endlessly churn out.

I am hoping that if I show faith in an idea as a consumer then the developers will likewise listen and respond and let the community be part of the process.

The 'big robots with laser beams' thing helps too! I am also a fan of the original board game - although I have not played it for many, many years.

Usualy you always pay before you can play the game. Most games dont even offer any demos anymore. So whats your reasoning to ask ? Just trolling ?

I am fairly new to the whole Mechwarrior universe, only playing Mechwarrior 4. (But playing it a lot). I'm going for Legendary Founder, because I love the universe, though I'm not that familiar with it, and I want to support the people behind it, because I think they deserve it. The ingame bonus stuff is just a bonus, and I hope it will be as much fun as it seems to be from the dev films and forums and such.

The only con this far, is if I can do well enough against the players who live and breathe this amazing universe. I'll never aim for best, I aim for fun, so I take my chances on legendary and hope it will be an investment. :)
