Simple question: If you could only have one 65T hero, which would it be?

1. Jester
2. Firebrand
3. TopDog

Top Dog, but only because i like Thunderbolts (even though, i much prefer the 5S with the massive LURM-DRUM on the shoulder)

I have all 3. I prefer lasers and would choose TopDog, Jester then Firebrand. For my Jester, I had the worst W/L ratios + KDR (0.3) before master. After speed tweek + mastered, it gets better. If you prefer ballistics, then Firebrand.

Firebrand can dual Goose, and dual AC40. I take that.

Firebrand cause it has more build options than the other two (imo).

Jester is not really a great option. They should have kept those ballistic hardpoints, Silly PGI.

I rather enjoy the Jester, especially its camo - but if CW were better I'd maybe take the Top Dog for C-bill farming.

A surprisingly even spread then. I'm still no closer to choosing.

Of the 3 chassis, I only currently have pults. I love the K2, but precisely because it has ballistic hardpoints, but I'm beginning to imagine what happens when you swap gun weight for speed.

I was thinking about finally jumping on the band wagon and mastering TDRs next, but I'm undecided whether to just grind out 3 variants for cBills or grease the wheels with a Top Dog. The paint job seems a bit plain.

The loadout on Firebrand seems fairly unique and I like to look of the needle thin AC2s.

Jester.

Firebrand is a jack of all trades, master of none. Ballistics are better on the -S and the -DD, energy is better on the Jester. The Jester is also better at spreading damage (a Catapult...better at spreading damage...man times have changed), making it a superior option for XL usage.

You can build the Jester into an IS Ebon Jag and do nearly as well as the Clan version. Once they shrink the CPLT down with the re-scale, it's going to really shine.

Also, if you're feeling ballsy, running a Jester with a giant XL 350, Jump Jets, and short-range MPL is pretty hilarious.

Top Dog is worse than the 9SE and 5SS. With that being said, it's still a good mech and has really cool camo and default paint.

Jester has some nice high mounts and can boat large / ER-large nicely. It's energy range quirks and duration quirks also give it 844m for ERLL, 13m more than most clan mechs, so it can trade with them. I've found its pretty durable now with the structure quirks.

***EDIT***
Thunderbolts are ugly. They can go to hell.

If you are interested in performance, almost anything you think you want to do with a Firebrand is better placed on the MAL-2P, the exceptions being PPC-builds. And then, PPCs are better on Blackjacks.

If you like the aesthetics of the Jager, then by all means. The Jager as a platform is certainly capable, but I find the other variants to be better performers than the Firebrand. In my opnion, the Firebrand's biggest weakness is that it doesn't have any ballistic cool-down quirks. If it could rip off AC/2 rounds like a BJ-1/DC, I'd play mine a lot more since it could do two ERLL and two AC/2 very well.

The Top Dog has +25% energy range. With module, you can have ER Llasers that reach over 900m.

The Jester. BUT.... this is a 'be a quick on your feet pilot' mech. I.e. be as mobile as you can, don't try to brawl too much... it excels at hit and runs.

Top Dog is rather tanky. Load that sucker up with 2 large and 4 medium pulse lasers and you should achieve a good kill count.

I was never much of a fan for the 'Frankenstein' mechs. (Arms straight out).
