There’s so many fascinating mini-creation-story vignettes on this thread!

I hadn’t played any sci-fi MMO’s before, so I found myself at a bit of a loss for a pilot name. And while I wasn’t coming from a long history of playing TT BattleTech, or really intending to get much immersed in RP’ing here, I figured many other folks would be using “proper names” for their pilots as opposed to more abstracted handles, and so I ought to play along.

Anyway, I looked over at the bookshelf in desperation, saw some William Gibson and Bruce Sterling novels, decided they were appropriately future-friendly, and mashed a couple of characters’ names together.

My handle comes from Outpost 2. in it the colonists land on a new planet and name it New Terra, and Its been my handle since 1997.

Simples as it gets I am sure. I was a boy, my name was Dan, and I didn't like people just calling me Danboy, so I added a D to the end, to give it a nice personalized ring. Have been using it since about 2000, and will be forever probably.

Me and the Internet: 14 years ago

Before I can get to my current name, I have to tell you how I got my first net name as its the only way to get into context! 14 or 15 years ago I had picked up a Battletech starter box, always did like robots when I was younger so it was only natural I would be drawn to battletech. I also liked dragons and oversized spiders, boy stuff pretty much so I quickly took a liking to the Dragon mech and the draconis combine. Now fast forward a wee bit and I get XenoGears for the Playstation, the main characters big robot was nammed Welltall.

Not really the sort of name I liked as it sounded rather goofy to me, so when given the option to rename his robot I renamed it Dragon. As the game progresses near the end his machine goes all super saiyen and becomes a mech named "Xenogears" and I was again given the ability to rename it, but I wanted to keep something to denote its suped up status and thus XenoDragon was born. This also became my first internet handle in the form of a Webtv user name.

Fast forward to the Mechwarrior 3 era and The Zone, whoa that was a laggy time wasn't it? Having a crappy computer and worse internet I took my handle into the zone as XenoDragon serving under the flag of a mercenary company (whos name eludes me as I was there basically a day) when I encountered a Clan that was recruiting: rather than base themselves off canon clans they had created their own complete with bloodnames and toumans. Calling themselves "Silent Dragons" I became SD_XenoDragon, few months later bloodnames were being fought over in true clan fashion and with my trusty owens I became SD_XenoPhalcon and a Star Captain.

Now the transition from MW3 to MW4 wasn't terribly kind to Clan Silent Dragon(hey I found em while writing this o.o not much left though, max is the only one I recognize), im not sure when it completely dispersed but Iv been back with the inner sphere for awhile now and you could say my name was my isorla for time served fighting for the clans.

Eh, I loved the **** out of Halo combat evolved, but was always too lazy to change my name in it. The game would assign you the name New001 automatically, and if some else joined they would be New002 , etc. I kinda loved it, and now here I am with it.

I use a Greatsword in the SCA, it's group martial combat in armor....medevial style. When your on the battlefield guys on your side may not know your name, so you often get referred to as your weapon style.

I've tried to live with an eye towards some new thing in life since my age was counted in single digits.

Joining the Zone to play MW3 I hit the name generator a handful of times and stopped when it read DerelictTomcat. I wore DSF tags as Abonomus and FFF tags as Asmodeus. I have also used TomcatX in the rebirth of free mercs but figured I would come back to my roots with MWO.
