Edit: It seem the game look like more smooth also less microslutering and fps are a bit improved but i haven't yet play CW games also i will probably add an "edit2" for performances in CW..
Edit 2: performances in CW are improved too.. DAMN TY AGAIN OP.

Mine did.

Ran the tool, was displaying my clock speed which also matched my tick and said I had HR on. Groovey.

Nanosecond response was something like 307ns.

Pushed the on button for hpet, restarted.

Now I have 14something clock & tick, and a ns response time below 50 :S

Running on older hardware here (Q6700) will be interested in seeing if i get any FPS gains as a result.

Sweet Cain, hope it helps! I read somewhere that this HPET thing mainly relates to i5/i7 generation and onwards, not sure if yours is one of those.

MIGHT give it a go later, as i generally run constant 59-60 fps with mostly all ultra settings, only occasional stutters in rounds even when heavy action/populace in view, but, good idea for a post.

I'll try it out.

Seems the difference is:

Default timer:

Windows: Are you done?
Windows: Are you done?
Windows: Are you done?
Timer: Yes

HPET:
Windows: Tell me when you're done.
...
Timer: I'm done.

So, besides the increase in timer resolution, it could have an effect if MWO is actually using windows timer functions instead of reading the clock over and over.

edit: some tests

Windows 7 Pro-64 bit / i5-4760k@4ghz / gigabyte GA-Z87X-UD3H

Measured boot time with BootRacer. HPET seems to be better for me.

no hpet:
32.645s
31.077
34.393 // start menu opened for some reason
31.177

hpet:
28.432
32.129
26.045
29.713

Spun in a circle in tutorial. Doesn't seem like much effect. I'll leave HPET on for the boot time increase for now.

no hpet:
55-78 fps

hpet:
56-79 fps
54-79 fps

I have it enabled from the beginning as I've done this before. All I can say is, that the damage of lasers is increased with higher FPS and decreased with lower FPS (HPET enabled)

I've cross checked it a while ago with a friend of my former unit in the testing ground counting the shots until components were destroyed and there was a distinct difference in the amount of laser shots required to destroy components of the same target (like the leg or the arm of an Atlas or the shield arm of a Centurion)

We did not come to a final conclusion, as sometimes I required more laser shots and sometimes he did, but in general, we both uses less shots, the higher the FPS was - that was consistent.

He had an NVidia GPU, I had an AMD. We both were on Intel. I had HPET activated, not sure about him, I guess not.

The old wisdom from Counter Strike days used to be that you should always have HPET OFF for better performance. Lately I've been completely happy with the game performance with HPET off, but I noticed that my laser damage (and everything else) registered strangely. Often times I would have well-aimed, converged shots do damage all over an enemy mech instead of the component that I actually hit (at least from my POV in the game). If I look at my laser shots from someone else's perspective, they are jumping in crazy ways all over the enemy mech. With HPET turned ON, I SEEM to be getting more consistent component hits with lasers at least. Of course, it could just be a fluke since HSR depends on both my connection and my target's connection and probably a host of other factors. So, still experimenting.

I have HPET disabled, but purely because all latency tools show decreased latency throughout the OS.

I will post some accurate results whether it affects my game's FPS.

Thanks all for the updates! Happy this thread is helping some people.

It seems that I'm the only one experiencing the big fps increase, but it seems to solve microstuttering for others.

Admins: any possibility of getting this thread sticky somewhere?

Not as modern as you think. it started going onto Chipsets back in 2007 and was first used in the OS with XP(I think?)

Anyhow, update from me, things seem more stable. Not exactly gaining FPS as much as keeping the ones I've got which is still pleasant :P

Tested on Gigabyte Sniper G1 M3 with Windows 7 (if anyone is interested), i refuse to work with Windows 8 or 10 it doesnt give any performance benefit to any of my DX11 games. Perhaps the test of the OP again shows that upgrading is usually a bad idea ;)

FPS River City HPET On: 184-185~

I forgot however I also disabled HPET in Windows thru 'bcdedit' so I did another test with it on as well in Bios as in Windows:

FPS River City HPET: 182-185~

Imho well within the margin of error.

I'll leave HPET off anyway as it gives me lower latency in these so called latency monitor tools. Whether thats a good or a bad thing, who knows ;P
