A short list of mechs people here are asking for that are terrible, and why. The vast majority of them are bad because they have over sized engines and no pod space.
Black lanner - 13 tons podspace
Dragonfly - 8 tons podspace
Linebacker - 17 tons of podspace in a 65 tonner
cougar - 86 kph max
turkina - gimped direwhale with fixed hoverjets, less pod space and hardpoints
kingfisher - std engine 90 tonner, timberwolf does everything it does better
Bane - ghost heat
Kodiak - Will get no structure quirks because clan -> will be like the unquirked atlas
Piranha - aside from boating machine guns, there are no useable ballistics for light mechs
Crossbow - 65 ton sub optimal mad dog
As for *timeline fascists* vs imperius.
How about this. You're both right.
Imperius wants a madcat mk ii... Its a good mech, not mediocre as some of you are saying (and I cant imagine why), it uses tech we already have. By all rights it fits what russ has said, as, deny it or not, russ is willing to play fast and loose with the timeline if the mech can come in with tech we already have.
Bishop and Pariah want to see the other chassis that aren't in before we see the mk ii. I personally think the bulk of those chassis are garbage, as listed above, but there are some gems in there too. Why can't we have them all?
And why this attachment to the timeline? Whether you guys are right about the timeline mattering or not, you can't deny, it has no purpose in the game, and imperius is right to say its effectively holding things back now. I don't know why that's so threatening.
Also stop telling people not to vote for stuff from outside the timeline. Russ wants to see what people want, whether it makes it into the game or not a call any of us can actually make.
I can tell you the linebacker is ****, because it is, in timeline or not it wouldn't perform, that's a fact. BUT, you can't tell someone he wont get a Karhu because its not 3079, because by all rights, if PGI wants to put a Karhu in they can. You can tell them its not likely that theyll get it but again thats not our call. If you want to get a true litmus test of what people feel and what they want you need to let them vote without being insulted for it. Imperius and quite alot of others were voting for the MK II until people started nattering about the timeline, then the voting sharply turned in favour of the kodiak, and even the turkina. To some that looks alot like people changing their votes based on new information. I think russ was aiming for something a little more sterile. Just a straight up "name a mech you would like", not, "name the next mech you think you will get".

LineBacker doesn't sound too bad next to a Sadder...depending on Scale. Not worth a 65 tonner of course, but not weak in itself (like a SadCat or Myth Lynx with their hardpoint starvation). It can mount guns, due to available hardpoints.
Honestly, 4SRM6+A with 5ERSLs, 4 tons of ammo, the 4 hardwired heatsinks....that will be a hot, but pretty powerful loadout. For 10 extra tons, you can do it on the Timby with SPLs and more heatsinks, or 10 fewer tons on the Crow.
Crow in fact does it with 50 more missiles and an extra heatsink, but marginally worse armour (but it's not like the LineBacker is likely to get these God Tier hitboxes).
LineBacker can actually do one thing the Crow cannot: 6 ERMLs and 25DHS (Crow maxes at ~22DHS in that config due to lacking the engine heatsink slots). The Crow, of course, just takes a LPL instead, and gets a low heat alternative, longer range option.
Anyway, not bad loadouts, but not fit for a 65 tonner. Not DoA, just outclassed.
That surprises me.
Here's a few charts which should be mostly accurate:

Hardpoint inflation and engine changing can adjust the above info, but this is guaranteed. Likely max engine cap

LOL, 133 Kph 55 tonner...for 7.5 seconds.
Jesus Box, 6+cSPLs, it'll hurt with as much armour as it has. Hitboxes can change that durability, of course.
Not bad, as far as mechs go, but not great as a 65 tonner in competition with the Loki and the Ebon Swaguar, or even the Jagers for Dakka, or Thuds for Lasers...but it compares nicely to Light mechs!
Light mech substitute. If MGs didn't suck balls, a replacement Clam Ember with massive Jumps. As it stands, ERMLs, DHS, JJs. Ice Fridge surpasses ground based 139 Kph ERML vomit, but cannot jump.
SL vomit also applicable, but leave the MGs in the mechlab.
It can do Timby loadouts completely Sword and Boarded, but cannot do much with the Dakka side asym wise.
I suppose fits in with the Linebacker, not bad loadouts, but off-putting for the tonnage cost.
