or me it's always been about Davion's emphasis on tactical thinking and creative implementation of available resources over throwing the biggest mechs or the newest equipment onto the battlefield. They also were more into making use of battlefield experiences by keeping troops alive to learn from and share those experiences with one another over sending experienced troops onto the battlefield with the mentality of achieve victory or die trying.

Been reading the books since primary school (so around 11-12 y.o.) and the characters from the FedSuns just seemed the most fair and true (though you do have to remember Victor is Lyran and Katherine was the FedSuns kid). But Victor has been one of my favourite characters since the beginning and when you follow him through the Clan wars, Civil war, Jihad and finally Dark Age era's you can't help but feel "**** yes, this is a guy I would gladly give my all for."

Hmm the Davion been around the longest and most the Battletech series and Mechwarriors books revolve around those units. Basically people tend to think they are good guys and Capellan & Steiner are bad guys. Actually during the House Wars it all messed up and everything is up for grabs :) till the Clans came and knock them all to the floor.

How is Steiner ever considered part of the bad guys? At the start of the game and for the next 5-6 years till June 3055, it will be ruled by Melissa Steiner and before that, Katrina. I believe these are the best times in the novels till Katarine broke away. Regardless how you look at it, Victor is also a Steiner.

Frankly, because, more often than not, all things considered, the Davions are the good guys.

I'd have to go with, like some others here, the reason that Davion tends to be the good guys. Or at least more or less on the right side of things. I also always liked to think that if there was any chance of the Star League being reformed and mankind entering a new era of peace and prosperity (though that would make BattleTech/MechWarrior a lot more boring!), a Davion would usher it in. Indeed, there -was- a second Star League... think the FedCom Civil War kinda messed that up though.

Other than that... I've always liked Victor and was generally just a fan of how he and the I.S. took the fight to the Clans. Ballsy.

Well, being a fan of the Mechwarrior games, it was easy for me to like House Davion. Aside from them being an underdog, I liked the prospect that they could get thier hands on ClanTech...

I got into the Battletech universe right at the start of the clan invasions and from the start I just liked backstory, look, and ideals of the Federated Suns. Granted they were part of the FedCom at the time, but you could still seen the gap between the two groups within the larger faction.

Plus my own personal family line is along the same lines as how the F.S. are as I am mainly of British decent so I get a good feel vibe from them.

I chose Davion just because I ran it in the old Kesemai/GEnie online game.

No actualy he just finished it or is about to finish it. (Edit : Mai 19th 3049 ... just looked it up)

Back to topic :
Ok lets play this through from the bottom up : (Considering also Future events)

Place 6 - House Liao - Capellan Confederation ...... is there anything to like about them? I would place them behind St. Ives, ComStar, Word of Blake and all the Clans if could!

Palce 5 - House ???? - Free Rasalhague Republic ..... can you even call something that just 20 years old(and won't get much older at that) a Nation?

Place 4 - House Marik - Free Worlds League .... sorry but they are a bit to losely organized for my taste.

----- Now it gets tricky ----
Place 3 - House Steiner - Lyran Commonwealth .... in the early days my 2nd favorite House closely followed by House Kurita (but their actions in the near future destroy my liking of them.)

Place 2 - House Kurita - Draconis Combine .... just the other way around as House Steiner. At the moment I would have to flip a coin between Kurita and Steiner.
----- Now it gets very easy -----

Place 1 - House Davion - Federated Suns ..... I love what Hanse did to House Liao 20 years ago (and I realy like what Victor will try to do in the near future. If not for his damn Sister there could be a new Star League and Peace. But it will never happen .... damn shame)

So this is my logical reason, but how could there be any other if you read the novels, Davion are the good guys
Also like stated in another thread, Davion Light Guards - 1st Kathil Uhlans, Kell Hounds and Wolf Dragoons - Black Widow Company are my favourite Units. So there realy is no choice.

I was born into it. My parents played as Davions, and what I have read in the books on the other succsessor states I didn't care that much for them, but the Draconis Combine would be third besides Bushido and Takashi, Capellan is full of solitary confinment canidates, Free Worlds League is too fractured. Commonwealth would be second, but there wasn't that much appeal besides the GDL. Rasalhague, well I like my mercs to much to hate them.

I first learned about the Fed Suns during the campaigns in MW3: Pirates Moon. It lead me to their background of freedom, and power for the people. They've always sounded patriotic and also reminded me of the old image of America, that's why they seem like a reasonable faction to fight to the death for. Coolest state of the Star League in my opinion. 8)
