I heartily agree with this thread. Been playing a bunch of matches on the new map and I absolutely adore it, been getting back into my old MW4 scouting groove. What I don't like is the fact that I keep getting teamed with groups of backbirth rejects who immediately start bitching about how the map sucks, suiciding because it's "This **** map!", or complaining bitterly about being sniped/lurmed after they find the nearest hilltop and skyline like a moron till their inevitable death.

As for the whammy, I'm having troubles simply because i play too aggressively for the **** teams I keep getting put on, but hey, somebody has to try and show the lemmings that you gotta PUSH the enemy to win, right? Think I'm just too aggressive in general for pug matches, really. Cest la vie.

Cataphract pilots will be very comfy with Warhammers once they reach wider distribution.

I've already seen triple UAC/quad AC/5 builds that put the -4X to shame.

Never thought of that i did play a lot in Cataphract's before the Warhammer's came out maybe that's why i am not seeing the problems that some Pilots seem to be having with it i love my Warhammers!!

Had a match last night where a guy in an LRM Timberwolf was raging at my team for not Nascaring rnough. The reality is that we responded too slow to the enemy flank - if we'd tried to nascar we would have been butchered in a line. We also had 3 LRM boats and the other team wasn't terrible so we lost the trades over time.

Don't nascar. Look at the map, pick a position that gives you cover and denies it to the enemy. Hustle to the good spots just ahead of them and pin them in a bad spot. It's a marvelously tactical map.

The Whammy is fire support and good at it. Watched a guy do well in gauss +2 ppc last night. Also seen some good energy builds for mid-range support. Saw an 8 MPL build that did good work.

She's a flexible girl, like a Cataphract with narrower hitboxes. I think she looks like a solid performer.

You had me at "Don't NASCAR"

Love all the folks complaining the map is boring, flat and no cover. If you think there's no cover then you didn't scout it out enough. If you believe it's flat then again, you didn't scout enough. If you believe it's boring, well most warriors aren't sent to the most scenic of places in which to sacrifice their lives. Most of the great battles of history were in held in the most inhospitable spots on the planet in order to preserve the more desirable places. If you have giant military vehicles in the city...someone screwed up! It is places like this that you must win...despite the perceived inequalties and lack of scenic landscape. If you're bored on maps like this...then you're most likely paying enough attention to detail and therefore will help improve other players skill scores...by dying...a lot. And if you are that type of player...here's hoping you're always downrange of my weapons. My scores need all the help they can get.

I have only gotten 1 match on Hoth so far and I loved it. I don't understand what the issue is. There are plenty of knolls and elevation changes to get out of sight if you need to. I fully expected to see tons of people exclaiming how great the map was not complaining. . . Oh well, I guess that is the internet for you ;)

I certainly didn't experience the map being "flat" last night during my first few Atlas drops ever. I've been in Ravens and bugs mostly so getting used to the low slung mounts has been a big change for me, I was hitting snow banks all the time.

We have what has played like an arena shooter for the past few years. The complaints aren't surprising as the face hugging masses aren't used to playing at range picking their shots. What I love so much about this map is that it's causing a small meta shift in the quick play matches. The old meta will continue to stand in CW however.

I ran into several Warhammers last night. They didn't last long against our team. Beautiful mechs and from all the specs should be more than capable. But like the map, folks just need to learn how to use them. I'm still going through the KGCs at present but I'm thinking I'd love give the Warhammer a try next. I remember using them way back in the early days of MW, they were pretty wicked.

It's not the LRMs that are killing you, it's the narc mechs. And if you die to LRMs and are not narced..... you're just stupid, there are a million places to break LOS. If you can't get in to brawling range... you're just bad. There is no other map in the game with more concealment. You can run a circle around the enemy and they'd never know it if you stay low.

Absolutely best map yet! By far!

I snuck up on people in a WubShee. It's not hard.

Get a couple people, flank wide, wait to hammer for optimal range. Nothing worse than walking up on an unsuspecting victim and your teammate starts firing mediums at 500m.

Some people have issues with firing off early. They need to take their meds and think of Margaret Thatcher.

I was fighting primarily in my FarmHawk last night; a Warhawk-B equipped with a cLRM-15, three cS-SRM-6s, and five cMPLs, designed to grind billz with missiles then score killz with beams. It is, as one can see, a very close-rangey sort of 'Mech that doesn't do well in pokey snipey nonbrawls.

In one Highlands match, I grabbed four kills and north of 900 damage. Inflated, of course, due to the amount of bone-targeting scattermissiles, but nevertheless. The Warhawk is (unfortunately) about as fat and large as a 'Mech can really get given that they made it Whale-sized for no good reason, and mine is built for close-in scraps.

How, if the map is nothing but a flat-plain LRM plate, did I pull that off? Down in my bottom-rung Puglandia tier LRMs are more prevalent, not less...so why am I still wrecking faces in the FarmHawk?

Oh, yeah...because I don't hang my butt out a window with an 'AIM HERE' sign on it. The map is choked with little ridges, gullies, rolls and mini-hills. Stay in or near them. Do not charge across an open field into the teeth of an enemy firing line. It doesn't matter which map you do that on; it'll get you killed. If you skyline yourself, stray too far away from areas of cover, or otherwise do something which effectively begs your enemies to blow large, debilitating holes in you...then you possibly shouldn't be surprised when they do precisely that.

Polar Highlands is great. We need more maps like it, not less.

Maybe if PGI would add the option for the mech to "crouch", sneak around a la Thief, some players would find it easier to play in Polar... Posted Image

Actually you could crouch in Mechwarrior 4 and Mechwarrior Living Legends. There were some few cases where you could get your mech to go just a bit lower to not be hit by enemy fire. Of course you are then stationary, no sneaking lol!

Additionally, in Mechwarrior Living Legends they allowed the crouch to stabilize the mech enough to decrease missile lock time (which was by default longer than MWO and required LOS). Pretty cool actually Posted Image

100% support. The WHM is a beast, those complaining about it need to get better, not complain. But hey whining about things seems to get them what they want
