It's not the LRMs that are killing you, it's the narc mechs.

This is the important part of your post. If you are narced, you will die. There are maybe two buildings in the entire map that can block lrms. None of the crevices I've seen so far can.

Last night, the only way I saved myself was to hide behind a friendly atlas while he took the brunt and lost a torso :)

situational awareness. And since it's one of what...2 maps that LRMs are actually potentially devastating on? I still don't see that many LRMs most matches.

Now if people could just pick maps like some people have whined to do.... it would get ugly.

as you (or someone) said, there are lots of places to sneak into. Once a raven or jenner narc sees you, it's over. You can not GET to anywhere that has cover. Of course, the counter argument is the whole team should be carrying AMS, but we're speaking in current actualities of how people are playing today.

I'm not one of the people complaining about polar, as we need any map we can get. But, with the current way people play, 1 narc mech makes your 4 minute walk pointless; and I won't ever pick it on the map selection screen because of it.

I find the "XX is fine, you just suck" attitude pathetic. It leaves zero room for a logical discussion.

Besides ecm, radar derp and using cover. What was that system that only costs you 0.5 tons of weight plus another ton for ammo to counter lrms but rarely gets installed? Oh yeah, AMS!

I can not blame lrm players for spamming lurms if noone is using the effective countermeasure. If people would consistently install it I foresee 50% less lrm users within two weeks.

But instead of adapting and overcoming current game trends, whinning and saving 1.5tons is the preferred strategy.

I think I've laid out a pretty coherent argument to support my supposition. Care to offer a counter argument?

It seems appropriate to make this thread after the deluge of new thread topics complaining about both.

The Warhammer

Its not a Marauder so quite trying to play it like one. As is the case with any mech in this game, if you lose in the mechlab, your going to lose in the game. Play to the mechs strengths and it has plenty. Use the quirks to your advantage. 50% to PPC velocity is beast. It also has nice energy and ballistic quirks. Quit trying to fit a standard engine in this mech and expect it to shine. Its not a brawler.

Polar Highlands

The first map that actually reminds me of a MW4 map. Wide open spaces, but with plenty of cover. Jump jets not needed. No obstructions or invisible walls. Discourages Nascaring. Encourages varied builds and ranged fighting. Whats the problem here? Not every map needs to be a no skill Nascar brawling map. There are more than enough of those maps already.

Summary

A good mechwarrior adapts to his or her surroundings and plays to their mechs strengths and tries to minimize their weaknesses. The same goes for the map you drop on. Positioning is key. Be aware of your surroundings and the ebb and flow of the battle, it will determine whether you fail or succeed. Communicate with your teammates! Less time complaining on the forum and more time doing the things I've listed above will contribute to your success on the battlefield.

bold and italic there...

Yeah I'm gonna have to take issue with that, because my standard 300 engine, WHM 6R's proxied into a 6K, would like to argue that it can function just fine.

perhaps if you read more than the title?

While not an in depth Koniving level breakdown, his basic argument is summarized well, logical and from my experience, appears correct.

The best part about everyone who's getting NARCed?

AMS kills NARCs if they aren't firing it inside 200m.

And if you've got an enemy 'Mech doing laps around you at 200m, you're already in for it.

While you can certainly brawl with the mech, it isn't ideal imo and certainly worse than a Marauder at it.

While we're at it, if you DO see NARC sign on you...you can also hug someone with ECM to keep it from functioning until the duration wears off. Or given the map, if you're nimble enough, scoot the opposite direction and get range on people.

But seriously. AMS, ECM, range. All of these work given a lack of cover.

I'd like a massive tidal basin. Complete with sections that you can fully submerge in. Have the tide roll in and out in the same compressed manner as the day timer runs.

That's actually a pretty cool idea.

So equip Radar Dep. 6 million c-bills is what? A few hours of gaming? No reason not to have at least one in your inventory.

My only complaint for the new map is during 'day time' it's so damn bright it hurts the eye a bit. I'd love to have Polar in desert/dune setting.

When I was watching the Desert of Kharak's intro, I kept wishing those land cruisers are mechs. =P

I think I was pretty clear on why I think the map is good and it has alot more to do with I just "personally like it."
I played against your team numerous time last night on the new map in the group queue and we beat you guys senseless. So I'll stand by the statement most people dont like it cause their bads.

Yes you gave your view of why you liked it. But rereading its personal opinion for the most part. And thats fine. Not every one has to agree on every map.

Haha yes my team. I think at the very most there was 3 of us online at any one time last night. Wins or losses on the map tended to be directly related to over all match making just like on every other map. And we had some good games and some average games and some bad games. But there was nothing special one way or the other about wins or losses on that map.
