Someone understood if the 10% limit is to "energy weapons" quirks or to the combined quirks like 10% range+10% medium laser range?
I don't care about the nerf in itself (i don't even use ER-LL on most mechs), but some bad mechs get a lot of mileage out of 20% medium laser range (10%+10%).

I been playing mostly Clan lately but I do understand that some of the IS Mechs are so bad/unusable that they needed higher quirks

I spectated on a Huggin the other day and it was so sad to see the nerf, I haven’t used mine since last June I even took the Radar Dep module out of it yesterday

Let’s hope they have other ways to buff poor Mechs

Umm yeah there are large groups in CW that rofl stomp. But IS quirks where too much, there is no arguing this.

Some, yes some quirks were too much, like the recent Blackjack problem quirks, or the ERPPC Thunderbolts... But quirks on a Mech like the Awesome, nobody seems to have issues with, because they make sense.

10% max Range quirks, and the Blackjack getting nerfed back to reality. OH GAWD LE MECHACOLPYSE! The clan nega-quirks needed to go. They're not buffing anything clan in the near future, just normalizing some things. Sorry you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I get reigning in the ERLL situation, which I understand caused problems for both casual and competitive play.

I'm not so worried about IS as a faction because of this, and for many mechs it's ok to lose a little range because they will still be good mechs.

But there are some specific variants that will lose their only useful role because of this and that don't really have anything else to do.

For example what will be the reason to take a BLR-1S over another BLR now? What will be the reason to bring a X5 over other Cicada, or a Locust-1V over 1E, or a RVN-4X over 3L, and so on. Many of these variants had found a niche as snipers to make up for not being good at anything else, and it's sad to see them fall back into redundant variants again.

I also think the IS ERLL will be a strong weapon even after this, 10% quirk + module plus the IS duration and 3 ghost heat cap. So making sniper specialists redundant might be the only significant effect of this change, but we'll see.

The removal of all negative quirks on tier 1 clan mechs will make many omnipods redundant again. No reason not to take the 3E shoulder or the 2E arms on TBR anymore. Not sure why this change was needed, the TBR was still tier 1 in strength so it wasn't for balancing reasons. Players not liking red numbers seem like a pretty stupid reason to me. I agree with removing neg quirks on Dire wolf though, but I would keep them on TBR at least for the A left torso.

Reinstating timbis and crows to their former "glory" is utter bs. There is no reason to do this. The timbi is still one of the best mechs in game brought down from being the undisputed best mech in game. It's just stupid.
I don't care much about the rangequirks. Buffing the underperforming clanmechs is fine.
We'll see. .

They're just removing the stupid nega-quirks. ERMeds and Gauss are not getting buffs. Timbys were god tier bc ERMed's and Gauss were god tier. You'll still see the C-Spl and SRM6 builds you see now. Shoot it in the back and move on. As for Crows, leg the dang thing and call it a day. It's not difficult.

Uh, BLR-1S

Sniper BLR variants are of course more useful in general.

Obviously, Sjorpha hasn't played the other BLR's. Those things are super nasty. 80kph Assault with 4-6 shoulder mounted laser hardpoints, yes please!

I think he should reconsider range nerfs on some of the IS mechs. Yeah, the battlemaster and BJ probably needed toned down. However mechs like the cicada need range nerfs. They lack the hitboxes and weight too brawl so they have to stay at range. Forcing them into range of clan laservomit and IS LPL vomit will make the chassis almost unplayable when better choices are available. I just think an across the board swing with the nerfbat is a bad idea considering the range of mechs we have and their quality. Balancing should always be well thought out and tested and this doesnt feel that way.

Tone down some of the excessive range buffs on IS heavies and assualts. Then implement the clan changes in March and step back and see where we are balance wise. Just my two cents.

I've played against some good Cicada pilots, lately, and those things are very durable. The Torso tilt it has when changing directions helps it a lot. Obviously moving slower than you should be or standing still is bad for it's health.
I may have misread your comment though, Beer.

Yeah, I know how to kill crows and timbis...What I'm concerned about is even higher alpha laservomit-builds which become more viable with removing nega-quirks from these chassis. These will likely return at least to CW and "buffing" an already very good CW-mech (Timbi more than crow) seems stupid to me.

Its basically a box on legs. It doesnt have the hitboxes of lights and lacks the durability of heavier mediums. Most of the good builds center around LL and ERLL with a few dual LPL thrown in. It reminds me a lot of a faster Adder. The CT is pretty big and absorbs almost all the damage if you get caught with an alpha facing someone. Side torsos seem almost nonexistent on it. So its kinda gimped somewhere between a light and heavy.

They do? How? Because Awesome is a "sniper"? That's an far outdated outlook and doesn't supported by anything, that the mech represents by itself.

@Mechi Messer Agreed, Timby Laser vomit is a thing to be feared, but most people still run it with 2xLPL and 3xERMeds. You're talking about adding 1 maybe 2 ERMeds, which will cause more heat and counter act the removal of quirks. Yes, Timby's will be deadlier, I'm no lore expert by any means but if I'm not mistaken Timby's were a feared thing to begin with. High Alpha builds will always be a thing, it's just better to front load your damage than to rely on DPS.

[nerdrage]

They nerfed the Jester.

The JESTER. Really, Russ? Seriously, bro? The Jester? What on Earth was OP about the frickin' Jester? No one runs them. Ever. Except a very few insane Underhivers like self, as they're quite fragile even with standard engines. They used to have a 15% Large Laser range quirk, and I was fine with that. It didn't pertain to ERLL. Taken away, and changed to 15% across the board. Now it's just being nerfed by at least 5% . Dude! Duuuuuuuude.

Why can't we simply get old quirks like the ML, MPL, and LL quirks back, if ERLL sniping is a thing that makes Clanners cry? Instead, they buff Clans through the roof and power-nerf the IS, and call that "balanced"? I get the Blackjack structure quirks. We all did. But goodness, the Clans buried the IS in Tukayyid 2 and the only reason they are getting murdered in CW now is because the big units like -MS- deserted them to prove a point. Well, point taken. Big units = bad to the bone. We get it. How does "-MS- is awesome" somehow translate to "Jesters need a nerf"? I'm just not seeing that connection.

[/nerdrage]

Oh, well. At least they left the Marauder and Warhammer PPC velocity quirks alone. I'm grateful for that. But give it a couple weeks and there won't be a a whole lot of IS mechs in the public queues again, except for hardcore lore purists. Just like before December. I mean, they buffed the TimberGod. The strongest mech in the game even with its minor nerfs. Since when did the Mad Cat need a buff? I guess it's time to get my mastered TBR-C(C) back out. I can remember running a Marauder with ten Clan mechs on my side last November. I thought I'd suddenly gone to sleep and woke up I n a CW match having joined Clan Jade Falcon! Even now, it's about 50-50 Clan-IS in the public queues.

Of course I have, and the other variants being super nasty is exactly why I'm asking what the niche for 1S will be without range quirks.

What I'm saying is that there will now be no reason to run the 1S over those other BLRs that aren't getting nerfed, since the range quirk is the only thing that makes it a stronger sniper than them right now. The missile brawler Hit the Deck posted doesn't really answer the question, unless the range nerf is replaced with some amazing SRM quirks there will be much stronger assault brawlers to run.

I agree.
I don't care for the range nerfs one bit, but i just can't wrap my head around un-nerfing the Timberwolf and Stormcrow, when they're still the best mechs of their weightclasses even WITH the nerfs...

I just don't get it.

Maybe these anger-inducing quirk changes are just a distraction for us to ignore the Stalker's dynamic geo? Hahaha

I wonder what they're going to put on the locust, spider, cda and others with 25%+ranges because its not like these were running around killing "clan mechs" by the dozens at 1800m Posted Image

So now clan mechs will still outrange on every mech when they add in target computers and they will out damage. At the same time they will be less tonnage. "balanced"
