12-1 steam roll is not a 'Good game'. Even on the winning side. Why don't you just give us the middle finger and spit on us?
Don't break your arm trying to pat yourself on the back.

In same cases, yes. But mostly the mentality of kicking your opponents into the blood and the mud and the beer and calling it a good game. Even leveling a new mech becomes painful

"GG Close" from a winning team on a 12-1 is a bunch of douchebaggery. I think everyone can agree on that one.

Still...
I remember when GG was more of a handshake at the end of a match, and not something a player on a losing team takes offense to or someone in a winning team intends to use as an insult. The good 'ol days of online gaming.

Anyway, I just try to avoid it now with a general chat salute "<o", and I'll "gg" my team. I will send a "gg" in general only if I felt it was a good hard fought match. Still, some don't see a 12-8 or 7-12 as a "gg" even if I do.

Sometimes you can't win unless you say nothing. Sad.

if you really want to give the other team a 'handshake' or demonstrate sportsmanship or whatever, you can be fussed to type out an actual message

'gg' is pithy ******** and always has been

It's the internet. The internet, modern messaging, and IT in general is practically built on short hand and acronyms. I think short hand is acceptable and not pithy ****. I don't need to write my team a love letter to let them know I respected the fight. A <o will do.

It's not trolling if it's absolutely true. My breaks are becoming longer and more frequent. All it has become is armlock, mass laser alpha, cool off repeat. It gets so boring. I hate it.

...Huh, so people can be this jaded and distrusting.

It's a virtual handshake at the end of the match. Nothing more, nothing less. If you want to think of it as some condescending retort and insult on how bad you are by all means but don't go ruining civility for the sake of your inability to accept a loss. The mental gymnastics to assume gg is some evil term meant to mock you is disturbing.

I've been on both sides, we all have. Don't be a punk, GG means GG. Don't read more into it then that.

Exactly. Unfortunately we now live in an age where people are looking to take offence at anything they can and the "gg" digital handshake has become something that the new generation of gamers seem to take issue with.

I often still say "gg" or "good game" at the end of a game out of a habit formed from 23 years of gaming, both online and tabletop. To me, it's natural and done with a respectful tone, and is seen as a compliment to your opponent and as an expression of thanks to them for an enjoyable game. I still often forget that the kids these days see it as an insult.

I imagine a lot of MWO players have never done sports a day in their life. It would certainly help why they have difficulties understanding basic sportsmanship after a match (i.e. actually saying "good game" after a game, even though it wasn't particularly even) or why they have such an allergic reaction to stuff like competition, ranks and public skill rating.

"Wow, so you're a division 1 wrestler and you don't want to compete against division 3 wrestlers? Elitist much? Disgusting."

A loveletter to your team (or the other team) instead of gg? Hmm. Lemme give that a try.

Roses are red.
Violets are blue
Your mech went boom
And so did you

Am I doing it right? :D

Seriously though, there's a reason I generally just post "Good job everyone" on team chat rather than say anything on Public after a stomp. It does feel like trying to rub their faces in it, which isn't a nice thing to do.

"everyone who disagrees with me is a child"

lol

always a compelling form of argumentation

anyway, my athletic career topped out at city league soccer and some weekend court basketball, but walking up to somebody on a team you just smashed and giving them the 'good game mate, real nice run out there' would have been met with sideways glances at the least. WIn gracefully; both sides know you won big, no need to pretend otherwise or rub their nose in it.
