See how it is? When they make a conversion xp to gxp half price no one bat an eye, when they offer ridiculous and stupid incentive to use the conversion everyone go nuts. Moral of the story, when you have something bad dont try to sell it with more bad things, keep it plain lousy or make it really worthwhile.

If you're new and feel like this is a good deal...
MC can definitely be better spent than on gxp. You only need 2 module: radar depreviation and seismic sensor. The other modules look good but really are useless unless your mech has 3 module slot. You don't need weapon modules unless your mech is boating 6+ of that weapon because the perks are too negligible otherwise.

The last thing you want to spend gxp on if you are new is to level a mech, you will regret it later, never ever do that unless you feel like youve made it in the game and don't need anything else. Everything will sort itself out if you dont waste gxp on mech leveling and don't spend mc for gxp.

Last time they revamped the module system nothing got a reset, 90% of your module became useless, gpx spend went down the drain. Don't waste them now so next time they revamp it you can minimize your loss.

Some elitism and self-importance, I have observed.

The "rewards" for converting XP to GPX is just a tacked-on bonus for taking g advantage of the cheapened conversion rate.

It's like if Nike offered a half-off shoe sale, and they threw in some free fancy laces and Shoe Cleaner to anyone that buys $X worth of shoes.

Who in their right mind would go through the motions of calculating how bad of a deal it is to pay $X in order to get the free laces? YOU ARE NOT BUYING LACES OR SHOE CLEANER. They are a free add-on for buying discounted shoes!

Sheesh.

People should remember to drop in a variety of Mechs to take advantage of 1st win of the day bonuses, too :-)

OPHH. how many clicks does it take to convert XP!

drill in, find your mech, select it, then go back to the start then convert... why not make it so we have to drill in, find the mech, select it, go out, go to the skill tree, then have to select it there and then go back to the front screen to convert. then hit confirm everytime we allocate xp to be converted. That'd make it easier.

That's not what people are saying. They are saying the shoes are still terribad value even at half price and that your money would better spend buying the nice jacket or sport bag from the same company. They are saying that even at half price "deal" and with the bonus laces and shoe cleaner, it's still a bad deal and not worth your money. It's about comparing different things you can buy with it and how much value you get from said purchase. These shoes are so bad value even at half price with some goodies it's not even close to the value you get compared the other items from the same company.

To put it another way, imagine if there was a car model from Ford who has such a terrible reputation (let's say that Pinto, the one that could explode) and it's been proven to be WAY overpriced for what you get compared to the other cars from Ford. People would tell you don't buy this car it's terrible you are wasting you money, you should buy a mustang instead. It's about getting more bang for your bucks. Xp conversion is the worst possible way to spend your cash in this game, it's just a fact. There is nothing elitist in reminding people, especially telling new players who didn't realise that already. It's intended as a friendly advice for fellow mechwarriors. Buy mechbays, mech packs, hero mechs, premium time, camo and colors, even champion mechs (while bad value champion are arguably still a better deal than this xp convert "deal").

I honestly have to say this is by far the worst event ever put forward by PGI. I don't speak up often but this is downright shameful.

To convert 1,000,000 million xp at 50xp per 1 MC = 20,000MC, cheapest way to get that much MC is the 24,000MC pack at $100.

Let's see what we get as a prize:

11mil C-bills at maximum.
16 consumable packs = 960MC (assumes MC consumables)
50 cal bullet = 500MC
Pug = 750MC
Hula Girl = 500MC
Gold C-Bill hanging item = 750MC
Mechbay = 300MC
Island = 1000MC (not listed in game, set to highest value)

In game 6,500,000 C-bill packs are 4000MC. Get two of those for 13million C-bills. (2million more than the event)

Add that all up and it works out to 12,760MC to get what this event will give you after paying $100 in xp conversions. How much does 12,760MC cost? Cheapest is the 12,000MC pack at $50 and 1,250MC pack at $6.95 for $56.95 and 490MC left over. Or skip out on the consumables because you're getting an extra 2million C-bills anyway and only get the 12,000MC pack for $50.

So either pay $100 to get everything in the event or pay $50 to get everything in the event (aside from the island but it is NOT worth another $50 and I'm a moron who bought gold mechs to support the game.)

Edit: Oh wait, why are we paying for an event prize again?

Seriously. What. The. Freebirth.

This guy gets it. I don't know if it was IGP or PGI that decided the price on GXP conversion, but they did themselves no favors long term.

Enteresting numbers and a good way of looking at the event.

I cashed in some xp made 2.2 mil and that's enough for me for this event.

I'll try and level some mechs but no more gxp for me till there is something worth buying with it. And using gxp for mech skills is never worth it.

I love 2XP weekends, as it gives me a chance to relieve the nagging pressure I feel when I look at my unMastered Mechs.

The bonuses for XP to GXP conversion are fine for those who want them. I agree they are rather paltry bonuses.... but they are bonuses nonetheless. I really don't understand why people whine about bonuses.

Most of the vets aren't whining about the bonuses. A lot of us are trying to help newer players understand that there are better ways to spend mc. A hero mech can net you a lot more than 11 million cbills, but only costs a few thousand mc. A champion mech can help you with that gxp issue by giving you the xp boosts.

So it is more of an opportunity to help new players not get caught by the small fish rewards. We want them to see the big fish.

The only benefit of converting xp to gxp is to level up and unlock the weapons modules etc.

Fine, have the double exchange rate to help folks when they do want to exchange, but don't stealth it as a means of getting cash.

PGI didn't think this one through.

I'm assuming the target buyers are steam noobs that want GXP and might want to get ahead on the grind and maybe considering buying $100 MC pack and converting it but there is just one problem.

I'm sure from the time that steam has launched to now there are some steam players that don't have enough xp to convert.

Assuming the steam noobs avg 1000 xp per match they would need about 1000 matches since steam release to make 1,000,000 xp to convert in the first place.

I don't convert, cause i have no MC.
I just play for the double XP.

Premium time, Double XP weekend, first win of the day => nearly enough XP to get all the basic skills after one match (if you are lucky enough that the first win is a good game) and i have so many mechs to try that.

Thanks for the extra fun PGI.

Look at the post right below yours. It's exactly what I was saying - people complaining about how much you have to spend on discounted shoes to get the free laces... Completely omiting the fact that the sale is for discounted shoes.

  • Double XP for my Whammies - Thumbs up from me - they should do this every time they release a new mech
  • Double XP conversion - Always a good thing for those who are impatient or don't have the time to grind out of Basic proficiency for new mechs

I know some of you guys have the time to grind things out or feel rewarded when you master a mech on pure sweat and blood, but there are guys like me who don't have enough free time in the day to play MWO as much as we'd like. It's unfortunate, but this creates opportunities for PGI to make some cash and we get the opportunity to elite/master our mechs faster. I consider this a win-win. If you disagree, *shrug* you're entitled to your opinion and I respect that.

This is more like the dollar pair of sandals being marked up to twenty, then back to ten. But hey you can get a second dollar pair of flip flops too. That makes two dollars in flip flops that you are buying for ten. The post you are questioning is simply showing what other value you can get.

Most veteran players will tell you the root deal here is not a win in most situations. As oni74 said right above me he needs to save time, so gxp conversion is a win for him. If you have the time there are so many ways you can get more cbills and xp/gxp for your mc.

Your argument that people are saying the free laces with the discounted Nike shoes are junk, does not try to understand the vets trying to help here. The problem is still the base product. These are not Nike shoes, they are the discounted county fair crap glued together by a five year old in a jungle labor camp.

There are better investments, but have at it if you want. No one will ever know your mech wasn't elited in a fight. We just want to help people learn from our experience.
