Where did the OP say he runs that build "to be bad on purpose"? The thread makes clear he plays the build because he feels that he does well in it. The views being expressed by some of you are that, enjoying the game in a build you do well in is simply not enough.
NO! He must do more! He must be a meta player or suffer our collective critical wrath!!!!
Just a lovely attitude for a GAME. He isn't curing cancer. He isn't fighting a war. He isn't saving lives. He is playing an online video game solely for the purpose of having fun.
The horror, the horror.

The point I make and others is that LRMS on that mech is not effective to the chassis, it's not a LRM boating mech it's a brawler, you should try it sometime give SRMs a go, I'm certain you would enjoy it.

300-600 damage per match in an Atlas isn't very good. And because that damage is LRM damage, it's effectively worth 150-300 damage from a direct-fire build.
From where do you derive that the damage is LRM only? With a pair of LLs and an AC20 I bet that most of the damage comes from them.

The reason that the Atlas brawl build is viable is because the meta has shifted to shorter ranged engagements, because several Atlas variants have tremendous quirks to allow them to both deal and absorb huge punishment.
And because this build with a good pilot will pretty much wreck just about any other mech in the game at close range.
2 large pulses 2 srms and an ac20 on my Founders...ive tossed up 700+ damage games and kept all my weapons despite all my frontal armor being gone and taking several large hits...She's plenty durable to get up close and personal now. And nothing "meta" about it.
To the OP. I'm sure its been covered but the Atlas simply is NOT an LRM mech..yes you can have impessive numbers when other people are there to do your job AKA push and take the hits but once you are alone, or VS a REAL atlas you die. Pure and simple. I mean i'm sure you're likely packing a standard 300 in that thing...I'm running 325 minimum in my atlas, with my most dangerous S model packing a 350...you cannot get away from me and I will outrade you in that mech every time. Because I'm built to be fast, hit hard and lead pushes and get into close range enguagements, exactly what the atlas is built to do. With proper support an atlas or group of atlases is almost freaking unstoppable. However if youre just sitting in the back chugging LRMS you arent helping much...

2) It's OUR team, not your team, our team.
So when someone brings an Atlas that isn't even properly using their tubes, and the mech is literally incapable of fulfilling the one role that an Atlas is built for (Wrecking ball tank leading pushes) - while you might feel you "did fine" everyone else needs to play around the fact that they have one of their assaults in the back of the team safely lobbing LRMs.
So feel free to play whatever you want, but your team mates will probably feel equally as free to let you know when your personal choices directly affect them as well.
Its a two way street.
3. It's a video game.
I'd agree with you if this were the Olympics or the World Championships. But it is very far from it. And so, if your leetness demands it, drop with a 12-man in the appropriate queues.

Problems happen when people try to defend their builds as actually being "really good guise, trust me," or "it's the player not the mech," or "I don't need tryhard noskill cheat hacks crutches for wimps," or "it's muh precious playstyle."
Basically, it's okay to run a sub-par mech as long as you ACTUALLY ADMIT THAT IT'S SUB-PAR. Issues come in when people try to make defenses or excuses for it.
What I'm saying is that you should call a spade...a spade.

The ones bitching at you in game or in this thread shouldn't be playing in solo pug queue if they want ultra competitive , bring only what I think is best type play.
If you are on a 12 man team drop , then yes , your team has some say so , but again , if you are talking about solo pug queue ?
Then just laugh at the idiots who get all twisted and act ultra competitive in something that is clearly not designed as so,

He runs an Atlas with LRMs. No way to describe that other than "bad on purpose." As evidenced by the fact that people constantly keep telling him how bad it is, and he posted this thread in order to complain that people keep pointing out his build is bad.

Unlikely, given the build... his mech is too slow to fight close up... under 50kph would get slaughtered at ac20 range... and besides, the cycle rate on ac20s is so slow that no atlas gets primary damage from that weapon... It's always been a finisher weapon on the Atlas. With the LLs and LRMs, he's working stand-off range. The LLs are mounted low and wide. To use them he has to stand in the open, which would make him a massive target. You don't last long in an Atlas at stand-off range in the open.
Logic dictates, then, that much of the damage comes from LRMs.

My idea of being "Bad on purpose" is simply driving old school builds...like 3 uac5 Muromets or Cataphract 1xes with an ac20 and mediums...and actulally trying to do well...
Might buy an Awesome 8Q back and sling ERppcs everywhere...

so stick that lrm 20 on the atlas, play with ac 20 ravens, play your joke builds, and have fun. stop letting people and the ideaology that you have to play a "class" permeate gaming , so sick of this tripe.
people wanting things streamlined, and simplified down to narrow margins. forcefully removing user input, customization, and variation for the purpose of creating a balanced playing field, so we can all play equally .
F**CK** U MoHanBezio i wil play my way all the way !! and ill take my 6 small pulse laser lrm 20 atlas all the way to front and die a glorious death while the rest of you narco wipes dribble along the battlefeild peeking and poking in your mandated builds.
i get to play more games while you drudge it out for 8 to 12 minutes !!
so kiss my lily white trebuchet erll toting hiney ill be in the rear by my self playing sniper 30whatever year and having a blast.

How do you know he has not tried it? He said he found this build best for him after many tries.
If he had used any of the brawling builds I'm certain he would have stuck with em, I can't do full on LRM boats they're way to boring damage output is minimal compared to when I use SRMs, lazors, and ballistics, maybe I don't have a LRMer mindset, sit back 900m and lob missiles at walls. Yeah that sounds like fun.
If OP likes LRMs whatever, just don't expect me to respect them when used on an Atlus.

So far I haven't heard anyone say anything today. It gets annoying when (usually) the people trashing my build end with lower match scores than me. Today has been nice though, no hate. Good games. Fun times.

"Aww its Ok OP. UR BUILD IS L33T! Keep packing those lrm 20s in a mech that only has 6 tubes to fire them!"
Nahh dog. that mech is bad. Yeah you are gonna get crap for using it. We aren't going to tell you otherwise.
However: Are you having fun when you drop in it?
If the answer is yes, then carry on. but don't come here expecting us to tell you your bad build is good. We have told you why its bad, and giving you alternatives. That's all you get.

Meh! Many of these loudmouths probably can't even hack it in the grouped queues, much less in a real and recognized competition.

Where is the engine rating of OPs build stated?
If that 'low and wide mount' being the case my dakka KGC and twin-Gauss (now dakka) DWF would've been even less usefull, yet they are not. You make some assumptions based on how you pilot that Atlas. If you cannot pilot that build then it is not the build being bad. Really, unless you are really top of the top it is not the equipement that is bad if he result was bad but you. If you got to the top of the top then yes, sometimes it is the equipement. This is true to many fields, and I take this game is not so different to stand unique.
