If you let a Mech with a 90m-range weapon get close to you, I'd think you did something wrong. Posted Image

Depends on what you are driving and if your PUG teammates bother to pay attention to anything other than how much damage they do. Try something 110mph+ vs something like 65 with better twist/etc. All depends on your build. If you dont think so than you are being a little bit naive/arrogant/foolish/cocky/pick your own word. It makes the swarm packs even worse.

This has been around forever, but even then flamers were just plain bad. It is also similar to the MG no cooldown macro, where folks were getting 200% faster fire rate. Notice the nerf to MGs, and all mention of that macro was taken off of the web site. I guess if this thread goes away, I'll know that the MG macro still works.

With both flamers and MGs, you got to close the distance and stay on the enemy. TTk is way short already, and I do not think folks want to spend all match trying to get on top of somebody to get very little damage.

I have yet to have a flamer on me yet tonight, and most matches are done under 5 minutes.

This is the dumbest change I have ever seen in my couple of patches. Basically is an instant kill for anyone who is mounting lasers and cant kill the guy before he closes (assuming same general speed/twist. Its not a matter of alpha, you cant fire back with lasers on anything but the coldest maps, stationary no heat use guy took me from like 60-90 in 3 secs. Basically you cant shoot back without risking dying. He just heats you up and then smacks you with small lasers. As if lights arent bad enough now they will all mount flamers. I have seen 10+ matches today alone and most people dont even know how stupidly good they are until they get spanked by it.

Run to team mates. If you are alone and do not know how to push R, you deserve to die. I think this will make light have less of a back alpha because they have replaced lasers with flamers. FIne by me.

Is anyone care that the graphics for the particles went from amazing to total crap? All for making a quick patch for the blinding effect? Not happy and I am not a flamer kinda pilot.

Why flamers are even still in this game is beyond me, they are made to light things on fire and kill infantry, two things we cant have in game or wont even have in game.

Flamers need to just go, im tired of all this BS over a weapons systems that doesnt even really have a place in the game. We talk about wasted time and resources, can we file the past 4 years of flamers and anything done to them as useless yet?

Testing Changes is Lostech it seems anyway...

Yes let's leave only lasers and make the game bland. It fine man they have to get very close 95 distance to start heating you up. Just merc there charging light mech body's. And be done with it. I agree. That the heat up should be three er second but honestly we don't need to loose any weapon systems because the mechlab. Might get a tad to stail

Try to usually doesnt help. I admit I am not leet like most of you but I have better awareness than most, just dont necessarily always translate it into perfect action. I fall back to the fact that if this was a reasonable strat then it would have been somewhere in the 50+ Battletech books or would have been viable in TT or SOMEWHERE.

Didn't matter there were 5 of us in a group and it still took us ALL out, once you are down to heat you cannot help squat..

In the time you're down its shutting down three more and getting no damage, its friends can literally walk all over you as well as the lasers in your back from the light..

Dude, I have been involved with MechWarrior as a video game I got in the closeout bin in WalMart in the 90s. This is only a video game even though some of the basic ideas come from somewhere else.

I like the story of Santa Claus, but I am shooting the first fat white man who comes down my chimney.

Lore always bites a big bullet in video game translation. In MWO there are 2 bullets of the pulp fiction and TT, I could really get nasty about having to bite bigger things, but I think the point is made.

Flamers have always been a part of Battletech, and have always been as effective against a mech as a Small Laser, MG an AC/2 (yes, the SL does 1 point more than the MG and AC), that is why we have them in MWO. But with the changes to the game necessitated by playing as a FPS instead of a turn based game have made it (apparently) difficult to balance the flamer and the MG.

I have primarily been an advocate for MG buffs, but I must admit that flamers need some love too. I think this was an attempt to move in the right direction, just not quite there yet.

**** short range like SPL's? How **** do you find Cheetahs and Firestarters?

Regardless of how useful one might thing a flamer is or isn't, stun locks have no place in this game. Flamer isn't even a viable anti mech weapon and used against elements that will never be in this game. It was added for completion, but in reality, they have wasted so much time on something that should be shelved.

Just saying, if you die to flamers you deserve to for lack of positioning. CC or no, your out of position so you die.

1. Nobody in their right mind will run 4 flamers...that's just idiotic.

2. Oh wait...so you mean the end of the laser vomit era of MWO? Cool. Looks like my MIXED BUILDS will be beating the crap out of people now. Posted Image

We'll see how it plays out. Its possible that they're in a good place and you're just showing an extreme example of the mechanic. Seriously 4 flamers...? Its also possible they may need a little bit of a pull back, but I personally doubt that 1-2 flamers will be as much of an issue as that and sorry but anyone using macro for anything but the TAG toggle (that should really be a feature...) need to be thrown back into piloting school.

Unfortunately its a videogame and the 'META' practically requires you to do crap like that. That's why I don't give 0 f'cks about the META and play for fun with my own builds to try to find my own play style.

So, we'll see in a month lol.

Yes because stopping light mechs that do 129 kph default getting up close is such an easy task... jesus these people..

What? You mean you and your team did not prepare for such an eventuality? Some people.

They are fun and sadly force people to actually think, if fighting a flamer at close range you cant alpha.. thats instant shut down. I countered this by chain firing my weapons, no issue. Course i also carry flamers.. for the burns.

Sadly? Forcing players in an alleged "thinking person's shooter" to actually think is a sad thing? Posted Image

Look out mech fans, theres a new meta on the block!
Stow those laservomit builds and load up on flamers and gauss rifles, cause things are about to get hot!

Why yes, I did just finish a fantastic match in a 2 LL, 2 flamer cicada. Why do you ask?

Yeah... I'll just stay away from the game for a few weeks until this bloody shite gets fixed.

Anyone who thought it was even a remotely ok idea, needs to be kicked in the bollocks. With an iron-toed boot. Covered in bees. Bees that are on fire.

@coe7, interesting, now take it a step further.

You show this only requires 4 Flamers on a Nova with 12. Since you only need 4, rebuild with other weapons. Now use the Flamer trick combined with weapon fire in a 1 v 1, what happens.

Meanwhile I'm taking time off from MWO after seeing this. Not really big on rewards from upcoming event.

Flamers have ******** short range, if you can get that close you are probably gona die. Played against a flamer wolf pack earlier and all 4 where so focused on 1 person i keep getting back CT shots back to back. And if your getting flamed you run back to your team and they scatter.

Just because 4 pilots used bad tactics (and they did from what you describe) does not mean the problem does not exist.

The videos are a joke.

Builds for both mechs aren't shown, you don't know how many heatsinks they have, the mech is also using FOUR FLAMERS. Other than things like the Nova, Gargoyle, Cicada, Locust, etc, that number is laughable.
