It is gonna replace the Ghost Heat system, though in early stage. That's my take from the Twitter reply Russ gave to Homeless Bill.

@russ_bullock all weapons use "energy," going over threshold = heat penalty. Closes all loopholes, affects all weapon types, clear to users

@QQHomelessBill essentially yes that is what we have been prototyping

I personally advocated such system, and I think it is better than what we have now, though less excited about the GH v.2 part. If PGI used forced chain fire and added progressive heat penalty, then I would really become ecstatic.

Hmm interesting. Need more details about it though but anything is better than "ghost" heat.

Interesting. Curious to see the math behind it once it's implemented, and how it shakes up the "meta".

Could be interesting to see how they do this... I wonder if different weapons will have different power draw rates....

That's kind of the point of a PowerDraw™ system. If every weapon drew the same power, e.g. Small Laser vs Gauss, it would suck popsickles.

Yup, but this is PGI and Paul we are talking about...

I can't wait to see PPCs, ACs, and MGs having way too much of a power draw. Any bets on if quad PPC Masakaris will still be viable?

As long as you fire the CERPPCs 2x2 like people do now, it might be ok. Pretty sure the initial implementation will hit some snags, but I am more excited about it than what we have. On the upside, people might be able to shoot 3 PPCs at once without penalty, as long is those are not fired along with other weapons.

I like the way that the game plays now, but I also don't live in MetaHell where the comp guys are stuck. Basically, I won't have a response to this development until I play it.

I do 2x2 and chainfire. You don't know fear until you're stuck in a corner with a Masakaris chainfiring PPCs into your face and barely generating heat.

Its amazing how far PGI goes through word olympics and different mechanics, just not to admit that lower heat cap along with heat penalties might...just might work!

I knew a greater fear
It was called ThunderThug-9S

If so, I think a lot of players are going to lack the skills needed to use them well.

well theyll learn when they have to start using autocannons to compete

if you cant do large alphas anymore then high dps is the next best thing. I expect UAC5/UAC10 is going to become the new meta.

Its pretty ******* obvious, yeah. So they thought TTK was low now....

How many seconds does it take 3 JM6-DDs and 3 Dakka Dires to destroy all 3 torsos of an Atlas-S?

I doubt, it, having to lead ballistics by a bit is only a hair more complicated than holding a laser on a component for 1 second. Most comp players I have played against are just as deadly when they bring 5 AC5 Maulers as they are when they bring lasers, if not more, depending on the circumstance.

Technically speaking the Warhawk should be able to run 4 ER PPC's better than now, atm you have to fire in 2's to do well, now you can alpha strike to do the emergency snipe without over heating to badly now [approximately] meanwhile chain fire helps a lot and firing in pairs is great... in short- this is how the warhawk fires in lore... chain fire / firing in pairs will work well

lots of problems with ghost heat such as linked ghost heat (ER small laser + ER medium laser + Medium pulse laser + Small pulse lasers for clans) yet there are loopholse the meta abuses (Large pulse laser + ER medium laser). Also firing say SRM 6, AC 20, Gauss, 5 Med lasers, 2 large lasers, a flamer, and an AC 2 will give no ghost heat but 7 medium lasers, 3 er large lasers, or 3 LRM 10's gives ghost heat (isolated, not all together)

hahaha... I doubt the meta will shift to LRM's and AC 2's...

You are right.

It will shift to UAC5s/UAC10s, and AC5s.

And now while everyone is facetanking so they can cycle through their weapons, they will likely die faster than they would if they had been paying attention and using cover. You know, thinking man's shooter stuff.

As long as they are standing still? Not much. But if people keep moving, those ACs will simply spread damage. I play tons of dakka mechs, and I have to say, it is less powerful than laser vomit. I'd rather take many AC shots over three torsi, than one big laser/gauss alpha focused on my single torso.

Which is why i welcome this change. ACs have been sidelined for too long.
