In fact, this feature was one of the primary reasons why I started playingg this game (and throw money at it) in the first place. Though I more then understand a feature like this takes a while (coming from the gaming industry myself) and I am patient enough to wait a much longer time until it is here, it would be nice to at least have something of a status update.
I promised this to friends to lure them over to the franchise but I am left a bit empty handed now.

I agree that the wait is painful, but if done right it will be worth the wait.

I haven't played in a long time now so I guess I couldn't wait any more. But don't get me wrong, if/when this feature does show up I'm pretty sure my interest will come back and I'll be playing all the time again regardless of how long I've had to set it down for.

I like what I see so far and it seems to be constantly improving. I hope they make community warfare compelling enough to make dump truck loads of money and keep expanding and improving the game.

Either way I am certain they are committed towards CW. Deathmatch is fun, but we all know that is what the game will need to succeed.

CW is coming, you just have to know where to look.
I have to wonder, what point is there in a Clan invasion if there's nothing to invade? So all of a sudden some SuperMechs start showing up random deathmatches? How is that Battletech? I'm sure I'll pop in to see how Clan superweapons play, but I can't say I'll be any more motivated to play Mech Deathmatch with Clans than I am to play Mech Deathmatch.
The Clan invasion introduces some new mech designs, but the Big Deal is that the Inner Sphere are laid to waste by an oncoming horde. Just getting your Atlas shot up by a Mad Cat does not convey this.

My thoughts exactly.
I played MWO since I got into the CB. I forked over for a Founders package. I tried to do my job as a tester. I bought some brawlers, some fire support mechs, some scouts, and some snipers. I'm completely bored at this point. PGI could fix all outstanding balance issues, introduce 50 new mechs, drop in the Clans, and add a dozen new maps. I don't care, I'm sorry to say. The game just isn't interesting to me anymore.
The entire Battletech universe exists right now in five minute blocks, where some non-canon group of mechs from various houses all beat each other up for no other reason than to buy more equipment to do it again. It's a grind with no pay off. No story, no units, no Houses. Nothing to hold the universe together, and thus no reason to play.
I have an Atlas brawler. I have a Raven scout. A have a Stalker sniper. I have a Dragon striker. What more do I really need? Honestly. I have everything I could possibly want, thanks to a few months of grinding. (Well, a traditional Awesome 8Q would be great, but MWO's heat system is clearly not designed for energy mechs.)
Some people treat mechs like Pokemon; they have to have all the variants. Some people buy three variants and play for dozens of hours to unlock improvements to make their mechs more potent. Some chase the Mech of the Week so their K/D ratio stays high. I find this excessively boring. I don't care about some silly module or mech variant. I want some permanence to the world. I want my actions to mean something. I want to see something... ANYTHING change. Throwing a Trebuchet into the same meat grinder I've tossed my Cataphract into a thousand times isn't going to be any more fun. I'm going to make $80K after five minutes, and save up for a week to buy DHS. Whoop-dee-doo.
I guess I'm saying I'm done with the game until CW is launched. Until I can join a house and fight the good fight against some Dracs, or return glory to the Inner Sphere, or just join a group of mercs and make some big paychecks, I have no reason to play this game other than an odd match here or there. I just hope they have enough funds to make it to the launch of CW. So if the rest of you would please keep buying MC hero mechs, I'll thank you in a year or two.

Lobby, Chat and CW need to work and be based off feedback from community to make the game survive AND make money. of course balance needs to be made to not make it so hardcore only uber fans can drop in and have fun

PGI really really really looks like they bit off more than they could chew with this game. They've made a lot of pie-in-sky promises early on and seem to really be struggling to meet basic content targets. The last few months have been encouraging, the team up with NGNG and making a comic-machinima-animated shorts-tutorials is great but all this aside. One wonders what is going on at that studio? How many people actually are focusing on Mech, and after they get over the hump of creating modular systems (assuming that's what their doing) can they deliver?
They haven't made great games, but they have played in the big leagues before.
It looks like many developers of Free-to-play games are chasing the LoL-Minecraft formula and running out onto the ice.

So we've got an engine, mechs, and some maps. Now's the hard part: make a full game. They need:
* Planets
* Houses
* Clans
* Loose player-run organizations (merc corps, periphery states)
* Militaries
* A jump network
* Player/mech transportation (unless we exist in some ether to fight whereever we want)
* A system to conquer planets
* A system to tie equipment to houses (if they're going to follow canon and, say, make the Raven 3L a Liao mech)
* A player progression system
* NPC's. (Or can I claim Teddy Kurita and charge into battle in an unarmored Flea? )
* More mechs (Clan and otherwise)
* Clan equipment (balancing will take a long time!)
* A strategic force balancing system (to keep HouseX from dominating HouseY for long periods of time)
* A matchmaking system (to make player vs player drops feasible in the face of IS vs Clan tech)
* In-game Lance management for matches
* In-game Company management for large matches
* Metagame Regiment management for planetary campaigns
* Solaris (I suspect this is a fast-tracked project, considering there's HUGE opportunity to monetize matches)
And of course there's a ton more. But point being: the game has a LONG way to go before we get our Virtual Inner Sphere!

I fully support BigMooingCow, but in the meantime, I'll keep Pokemoning for mechs.

Ughhh.. as a previous WoW addict from vanilla WoW onward, I can guarantee you we will not allow that grind to happen again. That ladder system was a fail from the get go. Our "High Warlord" was a shared account between 15 people. We are mitigating this and will update further later on in the project as it touches into an area we don't have covered yet. Just rest assured, the person looking into this cringes at the thought of the old WoW PvP ranks.

Wuss! I got high-Warlord on my own with a FURY warrior!
Don't believe me, then you can check, was on the Ravenloft or RavenCrest or whatever it was called server, I believe you can access the stats for old characters still (No account sharing either )
Yeah, I really wanted those axes

I am starting to feel the same way, the only reason I still play is because I enjoy meching with some friends.
However in general most of the things that drew me to the game haven't even been mentioned in some months.

They need to implement in-game chat room lobbies and ways to choose the map you want to play and different numbers of mech battles like 4x4 and 12x12. I would have to think that we would be lucky to see the first part of the real community warfare system start by holiday season this year. Community warfare is where they will start bringing in some $$$ because paying to make yourself better for your team/faction is somewhat of a peer pressure type of psychological thing.
They seem to have the sales thing down well. I still have a little over 14000 MC after buying an Atlas K, stripping it, and using the parts on my founders Atlas and a stack of C-bills to start out. I almost bought that HBK for 700 MC during the sale and will probably use my MC for things like that mostly. I haven't even started my premium time since I will need to a week to just slam through as many matches as I can and have several variants from several weight classes before starting it. They also need to release a ton more maps and mechs before they can begin this implementation.
