I may come back to MWO when it gets VR.
Planning to order an HTC Vive when I upgrade my computer to the nvidia 970 or newer.

I would highly suggest to wait for solutions from Asus and the like
The GTX1080 uses only one 8 pin connector, which is nice on a point of how far things have come performance vs power draw
But I'd rather have a board with 2 6 or 8 pin connectors
Also while the blower on nvidias design isn't bad, custom coolers would allow higher overclocks while reducing noise
Except if you're gaming with an extremely small case, where a blower design would actually give you something on the upside
Personally I'm gonna wait on partner cards, which should come out at the same time, or extremely close
And gonna put a custom loop on that beauty

MWO is not, and can not be compatible with the technology.
need I remind you, PGI can't even write in Decals, let alone compatibility for a joystick (any of you remember that fiasco?)
I lol'ed at your bright eye'd, bushy tail, hopes.... we too had them, but we also know PGI isn't exactly smart enough to make it work. (again, if they cant even make a joystick work properly, do you really think VR ever will?)

And it so was not already working on the last PGI party, including headtracking, which was supposedly awesome

I'm salty at PGI too
But if Russ was impressed by it
At least they would have a good reason to work on performance

It's awesome if you can afford one now, and the rig to support it
Otherwise the next iteration would have better resolution( which is actually a big deal that close to you're face), and maybe come down in price and graphics cards would be more ready for VR at reasonable prices

More than a few of us here are really stoked on VR in general, and its potential for MWO. Right now our hurdles are less on the technical side, more on the practical design side. For me, proper implementation of VR is more than hooking it in and getting the bare minimum in place. UI alone is a huge component of proper implementation, for frontend/menu and in-game HUD, and it's those kinds of things that we're currently looking at for proper native VR support in the future.

My brother! err I mean same here. Until a recent surgery I had a very lazy eye and the brain just never mixed the images from my two eyes in the normal way. Going to Avatar in 3D and watching people reach out for those floating things made me a sad panda. lol The surgery didn't fix it as my brain now needs re-training.
I am interested in VR but will have to find one I can play with for a bit. Even regular monitors make me sick if they're big. And forget about Golden Eye in single player mode.

You can totally play with full VR support in stereoscopic 3D with the Oculus right now !!!(all versions - though the DK! is pretty lame by comparison).
Been playing in VR since the DK1 using Vorpx and Tridef....now though I have it completely dialed in on the CV1 using Vorpx - here is how you make it work:
Get Vorpx and make sure it's the latest version, then you are going to use "game optimizer" to make a custom profile based on "Crysis 2" from the local game profile directory you can try other templates, but I found that this one works best...follow the instructions in this video...
You are going to take the "Crysis 2" profile and rename it and click the "Add" tab in Vorpx and link it to the MWO client which should be in the Pirahna folder in both the 32 and 64 bit bin subfolder (whichever system your using). Save it and start Vorpx followed by starting MWO normally and - Hurray!!!! it works (I had to start it several times to get it to boot at first -works like a charm now)
The game is in full stereoscopic 3D with tracking and is completely AWESOME!! too awesome as I now have Oculus face from playing for hours on end.
Your going to have to tweak some settings to make things look right and get the tracking dialed in, I found that going to the testing grounds and getting your mouse settings and field of view set was a must and you are definitely going to want to assign the Vorpx "edge peek "to a hotkey so you can see all your mech overlays in the cockpit display.
the first thing your going to want to do is change your field of view to something over 110 degrees from the game options menu (I have mine at 113), then your going to need to mess with your mouse sensitivity settings to get the head tracking perfected while your in the testing grounds. I have the acceleration at zero but what your aiming for is that you can look all the way left or right with your head and when you look back straight ahead it centers naturally - this takes awhile, but is totally worth it!
Use "Z - normal" as your Vorpx render option and you should get a high frame rate (I am running 92 fps with an i7 and 980GTX)
I was at the Pirahna studios for the Steam launch party and they had a DK2 running the game and the configuration I have outlined here is as good or better.

Please Post here if you find a geometry 3D solution - meanwhile, the Z-normal 3D is really good when you get it dialed in...

get it in Vorpx from "cloud downloads" - I made profiles for Steam too...
- you need the game to be using DX9 to load right every time
