Here's a different take on the NSR.
×3 Plasma cannons with 7 tons of ammo
×3 Medium lasers
ECM
380xl
20 dhs

to many heatsinks - Posted Image
more power creep:
might work better with
2 Plasma Rilfes and 4tons of ammunition
+ 2 LPPCs in the arms
+ 6 Medium Laser,
+ 1 Small Laser
+4 jump Jets
16 DHS

or you drop the 8ton JumpJets + 1Medium Laser and go for Light Ferro Fibrous and a LFE

I guess I don't understand how it's doing heat on that website. My version was at 41/40 or something.

For yours you had to reduce the engine I'm guessing? I liked the idea of a relatively speedy mech that can basically shut ppl down at near ppc range.

No just less heatsinks, for bracket fire

Either the ppcs and plasma rifles, or at closer ranges the MLs. Not both in the same volley

Right of course. I only needed enough dhs to cool the 3 plasma rifles. Still i liked having a 380xl in mine. 3 PRs with the NSR's epic mounts and speed would be pretty nasty.

Guys, Plasma weapons are 3068/3069. I am not really convinced PGI will go that far Posted Image

Hmmm, I just had a thought. Hot Fuzz could be a good name for a ppc focused variant. (Dual or triple heavy ppcs?)

Haha you're hard to please. What would yo do for a "Hot Fuzz" variant?

While there are mechs with more new tech in the running the Nightstar does have it's 9SS variant that rocks a Uac20 & LBX20 along with all the strengths it had before.

Well, it remains to be seen how PGI deals with the LB-20X. It has 11 crits, which means it cannot be mounted in the arm under MWO's current MechLab rules. Perhaps they change the weapon itself, since I cannot imagine anyone would use a LB-20X which is larger and heavier than the AC/20...

Anyway, here is my take on a NSR with plasma rifles:

Yeah I have a feeling they'll have to reduce it to 10 crits or something.

I like your build. It looks like it'd use the plasma rifles as it's primary weapons with the heavy ppc as big punch/finishing weapon while the mpls only get used if something gets too close.

A question for you guys. I think most agree Pgi invented variants should be avoided but what about fan created variants?

If the company leasing the rights to the IP isn't allowed to make up 'Mechs, where would players get off thinking that they should be able to make up their own variants? That's some super hypocrisy.

Besides, all we'd see is cheese-mobiles anyway.

Yeah that was my opinion as well but I know some have expressed a distaste for Pgi invented variants.

Personally I'd like them more if they weren't always something "P". I like the thought, even if cheesy or simple, etc that goes into variants or mechs like the Roughneck. It's good to integrate them into the universe.

Two questions for everyone.

1. On a scale of one to Atlas, how iconic would you rate the Nightstar?

2. Where does the Nightstar fall on your personal list of desired mechs?

1) I'd rate the Nightstar a 4 or 5, about on par with the Uziel for icon status. Not fantastically well known, but not totally obscure like the Wakazashi.

2) for me she ranks higher than the Mad Cat Mk II, so top 10, maybe...

Stinger
Wasp
Coyotl
Crusader
Templar
Devastator
Nightstar
Longbow
Mad Cat Mk. II
Blood ASP

Huh, just noticed the bottom 6 of my most wanted at this point are all assault mechs...
