In groups they will kill, yes. So will anything else.

In pug Q I always take seismic, and for some reason I rarely ever see them, If I do I usually give them one well aimed alpha and they scoot to someone else.

I live in Oregon and ride mountain bikes a ton. We have cougars. The secret is to not look like prey, and always keep your back to a tree when changing a flat at dusk. Kinda the same when dealing with oxides.

Hm.

I see a lot of folks saying "We don't want to nerf it into the grave, we just want to tone it down." When asked how they want it toned down, ideally, the answer seems to be...:

"Rip out the structure quirks, give them to other Jenners instead, cut the heat quirks so it overheats like a sumbeetch, and see if we can't crank back the recycle quirks too, because a light 'Mech should always have utterly p!ss-poor DPS."

That...sort of sounds like nerfing it into the grave to me.

Err...actually, I do believe that removing that its weapon quirks is fair, or at the very least tone it down.

As for the structural quirks, either remove them entirely OR give them same to ALL Jenners. Why is it just the Oxide alone that gets structural quirks among all the Jenners? How does that make sense?

The P2W accusation stems from the fact that the Oxide isn't merely the best of the Jenners but its also the best IS light in the current meta. Hero mechs aren't supposed to be the best mech around. They don't have to be the worst either but they are not supposed to top the meta table.

Hero mechs are just supposed to offer something a little different but it should really never be allowed to be best of its class to avoid P2W situations.

I wonder, how many of you folks crying that the oxide is OP even own one? Yeah, I'll admit it's strong right now, but it also has it's downsides.

Sure, it's great if you can ninja your way behind an enemy. Sure, it can put up a decent dps under 150m. but we're talking about SRM's here. The weapon system that consistently has problems with hit registration and spread. I don't know how many times I've got stuck fighting a light and had my missiles not do any damage or I didn't compensate enough for lag and they completely missed. Try legging a moving light with SRM's, it's an absolute nightmare how many will simply pass through.

Now I will admit that I've 1v2'd a pair of arctic cheetah's and won, but by the time I killed them both I had very little ammo left and was basically useless for the rest of the fight. The only reason I won is because I snuck up on them while they were trying to kill a disconnect. If not for that initial volley and using one of them as shield when I could, I would have lost. If even one of them had thought to leg me instead of going for my torso, I would have been very dead, very fast.

Yeah, it CAN 1v1 a light, and yeah it CAN 1v1 a heavy or assault, but if you fight any half decent pilot who knows how to aim, you can also die very fast. A streakcrow or even a streak adder, is a death sentence.

Honestly, if the Jenner D had the structure of the Oxide, you would see way more of them, simply for the focused damage the lasers provide. I do think the fact that the other Jenners get no structure is mildly unfair.

I make a call for Jenner equality.

Sheeit, its not just the Oxide that is OP as ****. I made the mistake of playing a game yesterday, I dealt 98 damage before a Arctic Cheater hit me 2x in the back and boom, dead.

I was chasing that guy down trying to shoot him, but Light mechs move like 2 year olds on speed....

The entire light class is honestly OP as ****. Tiny as hell, move like human shooters using speed hacks, then packin all that PPFLD where they zip around everything and then you never see it coming and boom, dead.....

Where anything heavier doesnt even stand a chance to do anything.....

The whole speed/agility bit of Lights could be toned down a little....I get superior speed/agilty, but they are like way to damn much, good like even trying to hit a light with PPCs...which is the guns I made the mistake of using......running up a hill, over a ridge, yeah...right, my mech doesnt even turn that fast....

THis game seriously feels more like a speed hacked FPS then any kind of battletech game....

Going to assume you have not tried to 4v4 yet. I think that game mode shows EXACTLY how OP the Oxide is.

its not, lights are getting their asses handed to them in that mode. I guess that is what happens when you actually have mediums who are built for light killing instead of lone range sniping of heavies and assaults.

Now if that would only make a TRUE scouting mode.

played lots of scouts. did pretty good with a pirates bane and not so bad with a cicada, 3rd best being a huggin, dont own an oxide, yet. i think the problem is that there are so many pilots who can only run heavies, and utterly bomb in lights and mediums. almost all my losses have had at least one of those kind of players on my team. i saw a raven who's top speed was 80, he had 2 medium lasers and an ac2. i could have outdid that in every possible way with an ac20 troll raven. obviously this guy had never run lights before. another game had a really slow enforcer running some kind of dual ballistics build and he ran around capping points while everyone else was fighting (it was counter scout). these beacons are going to be the new omega counter attack ovjective. people are going to be looking for them them when they should be killing stuff. so the least of my worries about scouting are oxides, let alone doom crows.

I am guessing that you have all been killed by Oxide's. Just remember if you put enough effort into any Mech you will be good. So please don't slag the Oxide as it takes a lot of gaming and full concentration to run it well. Our weakness is our armor. I feel that most of the people who complain are not experienced pilots. When I get toasted by a light or any Mech. First things I think are... What mistakes did I make , Good on that pilot for getting so close to me without me knowing. Not ... Oh I hate that Mech , its got to much of this or to much of that. Do you complain about any Mech that kills you?.

Don't hate the Game , Hate the Player.

Way to kill an oxide...sick another light on it.

The Oxide is an assault and heavy killer. It dies horribly to everything else.

I don’t mind Oxides being powered but I don’t think you should get anything for killing an AFK in the spawn

The Oxide has structural quirks because it doesn't have jump jets, which come standard on all other Jenners and improves their survivability to some extent. Not as simply or straightforward as raw increased health, but they do, and you can't discount that the Oxide loses both some survivability and a lot of mobility to the lost jets. Jetless lights are an exception, not a rule; they tend to need more to balance out the loss than bigger fatter bros.

Whether it also needs weapon quirks I leave up to the T1 Overlords who play the ultracomp leagues, but remember - the Oxide has precisely four hardpoints, not a single lick of energy anywhere on the 'Mech, and gets no jump jets the way every last single other even semi-competitive light 'Mech does. Firestarters? Jets. Cheetahs? Piles of (hardlocked) jets. Other Jenners/Jenner IICs? Jets, and jets. Most of those also have close to double the overall hardpoint count of the Oxide, if not double or more. And two of those hardpoints are CT-mounted and thus each have one slot to use.

Whether or not the Oxide is currently Ohh Pee, Pee Two Dubbleyu, or any of those other acronyms meaning "I don't like dying to this thing" around here, I will not say. What I do know is that for the longest time, the Oxide was almost as big a joke as the Anansi. Most of the reasons it was a Slap In The Face™ to Jenner pilots still stand. How much tuning-down can it take before it reverts back to that RHSC status and it goes back into the Drunken Streaming bin next to the Huginn?

I own an Oxide, and it is pretty much the easiest mech to do well with in the entire game, I play it when I don't feel like having to think, I can just blindly run in and get 300+ damage and a kill or five while playing like an idiot no problem.

So yes it is completely fair and balanced, doesn't need any changes at all PGI, nothing to see here.

Its as much dps as an atlas does

AS7-S Has 10% Missile CD, Oxide has 15% - It's a 5% difference.

(AS7-S)
4xASRM6 + 27% CD = 17.67 DPS
AC20 + 17% CD = 6.02 DPS
Total DPS: 23.69
Total Alpha: 71.6
Alphas to kill Oxide: 1

(Oxide)
4xSRM4 + 32% CD = 16.86 DPS
Total DPS: 16.86
Total Alpha: 34.4
Alphas to kill Atlas: 3+

Yep, it totally has the same DPS as an Atlas... Posted Image

Quote

definitely way too much for a 35 ton mech

So what's a proper alpha and dps for a Light? I'm sure the figures you produce will be low, ineffectual ones because how dare Lights be a threat to Heavies and Assaults that can one shot them with twice the firepower! Posted Image

Seems a little counter-intuitive to playing Lights since not paying attention or thinking about what you're doing is generally the best way to die in them, not stay alive.

Zzzzzz.

ROFL, go against people who know how to aim then. I am sorry but if I play like an idiot in a Oxide and just "stroll" in I get cremated, try another example. Better yet show a vid of you getting 5 kills just blindly going in.
