Considering that the mech hasn't been released yet, I'm willing to give PGI the benefit of the doubt that they will scale it down a little. Else...yii...what a waste...

Its mount points give it such potential. It will be a crying shame if it were ruined by being oversized for its weight class. I thought PGI would have learned by now to stop obeying the 'rule of cool' when it comes to mech design and be practical about scaling and hitboxes in a FPS game.

Looking at the first picture, I can't help but think the Marauder is too small... There is a bulk difference between the Phoenix Hawk (45t) and the Gryphon (55t), about as much as I'd expect. Either way I'm keeping my Phoenix Hawks.

To be perfectly fair, that's because you are just staring down the Marauder from the front.

Look at their side profiles and its instantly obvious why the Marauder is a heavy.

You're forgetting how long the Marauder is though, we need a side view for comparison.

It looks pretty lanky; lots of lasers, ballistic shells, and missiles are going to whiff right between the arms and side torsos.

Why does every other 45 tonner have to be so much bigger than the Blackjack? Is this even bigger than the Vindicator?

Thoughts? Refund asap?

You are also not paying attention to how much void space there is between the limbs...

Another mech has lots of open space between the limbs and torso...I am trying to recall it...OH! Yes! The SCR...that mech clearly sucks even though it is the size of the HBR which is 10 tons heavier...

Since when do all 45 ton mechs, or all mechs, have to be the exact same size? And since when is the bj the ideal metric?
These mechs are made by different manufacturer's on different planets.
I fear when I read these doa threads that some want all the mechs to fit in some homogeneous mold and that's weird and not cool. Probably in the minority, but that's my thought.
And I think the phx looks pretty sweet

funny when quirks are the only things that can make mechs good

Also. Ignoring the scaling problems this thing looks like it has very good geometry and thus hitboxes. The arms will shield the side torsi well and the side torsi only take up the upper half of the torso with a thin CT strip. I can't tell if there are any geometric flaws like a protruding stomach from this perspective.

CT/ST geometry is looking good though. I can see this being fine if it twists/turns fast enough (with the proper hitbox allocations).

I'll probably end up sticking with the STD270 or go to an XL350 since those wings and torso shape are gonna be problematic on a slower XL engine.

Quit being logical.

If EVERYTHING in this game isnt cut and paste identical then you have imballance, doa non meta blah blah blah

No, the fact that much like the SCR the PHX is about 55% legs or more i agree with Derv.

Gonna be an easy one to leg. Quirks will maybe save it legs one day.

I don't care so much about the size. It looks a bit big, but whatever.

The head looks too big though. I don't understand their fetish for robots with big heads. Enforcer is the worst example, but this one is up there. Note: Big heads make your robot look less heroic and vicious. It's fairly normal to draw characters (and humanoid robots) with wide shoulders and somewhat small heads, to make them look extra powerful and huge. I wish PGI artists would start doing that. I don't like the bobblehead-effect.

So uhh...does anyone else think it actually looks pretty well scaled next to the Griffin and Mad? The Griffin is only 10 tons heavier, but you can see that difference very clearly. Also, we did see a side view (if only for a moment) and it's quite skinny. I do think it could use smaller arms, but relative to other mechs I see no issue.
