Its like a 40 ton artic cheetah with no ECM, more JJs and less podspace. Like...why? You may as well run an artic cheetah.

It is one of the original invasion mechs. You don't have to buy it if you do not want to. Some people will like it just because of lore.

Nova Lite, or super close combat Cicada.

Sameish loadout as a Nova, but you now run like a light.

Arguably superior to a Shadowcat and Ferret in terms of brawling. Can still do the ERML poke game.

Cheetahs don't have stupid levels of hardpoints that are borderline suicidal and useless.

The point of the Viper is obviously its nose. Because it's pointy, see? Geddit? I'll just show myself out, shall I? :)

What if... not everything new in this game had to be there to power creep the meta and give you the latest competitive edge?

Once you maximize the Cheetah's armor, I believe it and the Viper both end up with 8 tons left over -- but the Viper has to shave less armor off to get to 8.5.

So it ends up with slightly more pod space, and 10 more tons of structure/armor, all while moving just as fast. 'course it loses ECM and hitboxes. It might not be as good as the Cheetah, but it doesn't seem like it'll be hopelessly awful

The point is to puke lasers. It has 11 Energy HPs so you could get yourself a super fast knife-fighter Nova.

Was tempted. Was REALLY tempted because I like CDAs so much when I do solo PUG. But, about 8 free tons with near full armor (which you need to survive the current meta-lazor-alpha)....meh. That is, unless the two heat sinks in the engine are also locked (which does not seem to be the case based on loadouts), then 6 tons free.

8 locked Jump Jets
Locked 320XL

Would have sold me on it if either a 300XL (allowing 3 tons more free space), or even just 4 locked JJ (2 tons free space). 2 ERLL high mount on torso and 4 ERSL to fight off lights would have been $$$ for them. I probably would have purchased all of them. Instead, you will see them all running 6-8 ERML (hot, hot, HOT!!!) right up to when the power draw system is implemented.

what's the point of 90% of the mechs in Btech? Doesn't take long to become mostly redundant.

It's mostly cosmetics, and the few little things that might make it feel different enough that someone prefers it.

Your drop deck has 40 tons available for the fourth mech?

You are wrong.
It's clan CDA.
Useful in scouting: more speed than crow.
6ersl+2srm4: more punch than chetos

I mean, it's good to see the medium queue won't be clogged with too many vipers then, since alot of you don't seem to care.

Gosh I love being a lightish oriented pilot. More free passes than when a heavy comes out.

It doesn't have less podspace, in fact you can run 6 cSPLs, and 3 double heatsinks by shaving half a ton off of your left arm. Added bonus is when you lose your arms you still have 4 lasers (5 with the C) while Cheetahs are stuck with 2, maybe 3 if ECM is skipped). I'm looking forward to th he Viper personally. Perfect speed for a 40 tonner and plenty of hardpoints.

The viper looks like a better Shadowcat, which I love. Faster, more hardpoints, no MASC!!! I'm sticking to my guns on not giving PGI any more money till the game is out of Beta though.

The Viper stands a really good chance of being a good 'mech for the scouting mode.

Bring four Vipers, split them into two pairs, load up on ECM and SPL, and they can outrun anything that can kill them and leg anything that can catch them
