Hey guys. Im returning to check in on the game after a couple years away and Im having a major issue Im hoping you guys can help me with.

The game is very dark, to the point where its uncomfortable to look at in match, and outright painful/eye straining to try to use the mechlab. When I use the steam overlay in game it also has the same issue, websites or forums etc. Increasing the in game brightness/gamma levels a moderate amount helps, but that makes the game totally unplayable because a great portion of the maps bright spots will be totally blown out, forget the snow maps.

Alt tabbing to desktop or any other program returns it to normal as it always is...alt tab back into the game and its a dimly lit cave again Posted Image

Has anyone else experienced this issue? Thank you for any help!

Have you fiddled with your graphics card settings, like Nvidia control panel? I do not have the issue that you describe so can't help ya any other way.

They have updated the crap out of this game, run the repair tool to check if all those massive updates experienced any hiccups.

This is also a good point, make sure that all the settings in there are set to "use application setting"

The same can be said for ATI graphics console.

Otherwise, this maybe a more in depth issue, and you should start a support ticket while you wait for others to help you here in forums, you can do that by opening your main email program, then use copy and paste to get the address from the support tab into your email program.

Thanks for the replies guys. I have not gone to the nvidia control panel yet as I dont have this problem with any other program and Im not sure where to begin in terms of adjusting things.

Thats a great suggestion giglio, however this is a totally fresh game install on a brand new harddrive.

This game is finicky, make a specific profile for this game in your panel, so that it does not effect your other games, then simply go through the entire list and put everything to "use application setting"

Also take your post, and make a copy of it and drop it into Workarounds, there are a lot of players in there who are eager to help with problems like this. (if the last suggestions dont help you)

I've got the same problem. Have fiddled with it for ages and no luck. This game is probably the worst programmed game in the history of gaming. I've learned not to expect anything good from the dev team and if something good does come around they most likely did it by accident.

The rest of us dont experience the problem though, It can't be the programming,

Tell us the specifics and we (other players) will try to help.

I've asked multiple times both here and in the tech support forum. I run amd processor and graphics. I bet that everyone has the problem to some extent but it's less noticeable on most hardware. Don't have the problem on any other game so it's back to poor programming.

I have an AMD processor, and I wasn't on when you asked, please try again.

If I go into certain areas in the forest map or mining colony map the screen goes dark and I can't see at all. I thought it was a shadow problem but tried every setting and it happens anyhow. It also occasionally happens on Terra therma..
But not on river city night or frozen city night.

I know this has already been said, but did you check you graphics console (right click on desktop, AMD catalyst control center) and check to make sure that all the settings were set to "use application setting"

Did you also check contrast settings in game? If you did, then also check any contrast settings in your console.

I have this problem with Tomb Raider, I traced the problem to a setting in game called SSAO (screen space ambient occlusion). It would make certain areas of the game too dark. And in areas that were meant to be dark, it would actually turn the lighting purple (negative lighting).

Tell me if that gives off any light bulbs in your head.

If you want, I can see if Cry engine 3 utilized SSAO, and I can search for USER.cfg settings that maybe able to help you turn it off. I dont want to start that process if the problem is more simple though.

Sometimes the Mechlab is very dark but that is extremely rare and goes after a while.

Darkness can also come from Windows Settings that interfere with you graphic Settings, the Monitor Settings, Anti Aliasing can also have that effect, switch through the modes if it helps...i run FXAA, i remember one of the other modes was pretty dark.

Make sure you aren't running in Windowed or Full Window mode, because only Fullscreen can apply the in-game brightness slider setting to the game

I run this game just fine on an AMD card. Processor won't affect the visuals unless you have a major CPU bottleneck.

Are your drivers up to date? What model card are you running?

If you still have Catalyst drivers, that tells me one of two things. 1) you have a card that doesn't support Crimson drivers or 2) you have horribly outdated drivers.

Nah, support would have already suggested drivers, I think hes asking for less generic solutions.

Its probably something obvious, yet very easily overlooked.

this... update your drivers.
I had a similar problem with colors shifting to the red.
Update your video drivers, that will most likely fix it.
