Supply Crates, Explained!

Heres what has been Explained(From the (may/june/july road map),
Supply Cache
July will introduce a new Supply Cache mechanic into all Quick Play and Faction Play matches. Each match will include a single Supply Cache randomly placed on the map. If a player finds and captures the Supply Cache, all members of the team are notified of the successful capture. At the end of the match a random player from the discovering team will receive the Supply Cache. If the Team who captures the Supply Cache also happens to win the match, a second player from the same Team, randomly selected, will also be given a Supply Cache. Once received, Supply Caches are added to the winning player's Inventory; a new tab has been added to the Inventory screen which will contain Supply Caches that have been earned.
Each Supply Cache can be inspected before opening to see what is contained within. Players then have the ability to purchase a Supply Cache Key using MC to unlock the Supply Cache. Once a Supply Cache has been unlocked, a random selection of the Supply Cache contents will be awarded to the player; the rest of the items are destroyed. Alternatively, unopened Supply Caches can instead be sold off for C-Bills.
What Russ Has Said Since this was Announced,
1) the Crates will be much like Gift-Bags(Trick or Treat Event Bags),
they can Contain Colors, Camos, MechBays, Weapons, Modules, Ect,
2) the MC Crate Keys will be Reasonably Priced,
More Info Added as it becomes Available

It needs to be refined, quite a bit, but that comes from the lack of information available...
again, IMO, we need a C-Bill version of the key which takes some time to create or find with crates (whole keys and frags of keys). there should also be at least a crate for each team, not just one crate for everyone.
At least that's my opinion, take what you will of it, I just hope it turns out well in the end, be it removed or implemented.

The good news is that flamer that you just paid for in MC actually works like a flamer should, 2 years from the time of receipt.

oh look! another Lump of Coal to put on my dash! oooh 24 hours of premium time!
Well i honestly dont care, the game has always been about grinding cbills and this will make it easier since you can sell the boxes.

PGI needs to churn MC, I fully support that idea because they need to make money, but let's do that in a way that doesn't get people grumbling about uneven distribution or stupid RNG.

So, does this confirm that the crates will be handled 100% outside of combat gameplay?
That was by far the biggest drawback of the version described in the roadmap. If they fix that then the rest of it doesn't matter all that much.

At best it's a potential bonus for being endovenous. At worst it's a pedestrian effort to codify the attention deficit CoD'esk crowd.
That said, it's not the unceremonious death of MWO so many seem to infer and it's definitely not the next best thing to sliced bread...
The bigger kick in the pants is there is so many other things they could have done with their production cycle than to invest time into this... "bobble".

How about instead "Salvage"? And you have a tech team who has to restore the salvage to usability. This takes time. So it goes on a timer. And you offer the player the chance to speed up the process by paying MC. It better fits the theme of MWO. You can even have better quality salvage drops. And still allow players to sell their salvage.

people will compulsively keep buying keys and opening lockboxes for the chance to get a rare item. for the same reason people get addicted to casino games.
but I still think PGI is missing out on a huge opportunity by not adding mech hats.
because everyone on steam likes hats

Why focus on lights? is there some hit reg problems? maybe a little too much hardpoint inflation? why special attention here, in an attempt to pull them from combat?

he hints that he would like mwo to be like cod/cs or even Dungeons and dragons.
BUT:
1) players out there will ALWAYS prefer the original ones than an unknown copy that use robottoz
2) crates with $h1t inside is a immersion killer: I mean, we drop there to fight and die, maybe for lostech cache and then suddlently we find a crate of..... camo....wow.
And cache that requires money to be oneped..... that old freaking Kerensky.... has closed that cache using space money magic!!!
3) never dropped in a solo pug match? well.... ppl will have a reason to spread all over the map, even more than now!!
LOL
4) finally PGI figured out a very effective way to pump up the light que!!!!
GIFTING players that use lights to find out crates!!! LOLOL

More ways to take money? Just sell items that would be in the crates in the gift store and use development resources for something else. This brings nothing to the game, nothing.

Hey, I'm not even upset by this. It doesn't affect me, since I won't be buying them, so I just find it hilarious.
Remember all the threads about "I opened x amount of gift bags from this event, and I still got no grand prize?". Well, those were free gift bags. Imagine if someone paid for a supply crate, hoping to unlock some juicy module or mechbay or color, and RNGeesus decided they would get a lump of coal cockpit item instead. Now imagine if that happened several times in a row. I'm not saying it's unfair. It's basically a lottery, after all. "You may already have won". But the QQ may just turn out to be deliciously entertaining. Not to mention you only have 8.3% chance of getting the crate you captured, which is randomly distributed to a member of your team.
Heh, I just find it all quite amusing, is all.
