So, Kodiak: Spirit Bear Probably A Good Buy, Collectors Pack, Bad Buy.

That said, when looking at Hardpoints vs Quirks.....
https://static.mwome...0dd28f2abb1.jpg
Yes, the KDK-1 is a hardpoint BEAST (12 hardpoints, 9 of them energy). In fact, so much so, that it will be nigh impossible to actualyl use all of them in an optimal build (think: Stalker Syndrome). And ZERO quirks. No Structure, no Agility.
In contrast?
The Spirit Bear: Only 7 hardpoints, of which only 2 are the energy Boogeyman. On the other hand, it still packs a the ability for a massive Clan UAC and a buttload of SRM/SSRMs in the torso. And MASC. And a +30% Accel/Decel Quirk, and a +35% Twist Speed Quirk, on a mech with a MASC enhanced 400c-XL. And some mild structure buffs.
Oh..and costs 5$ less to upgrade to than the Collectors version.
So yeah, glad I waited, bought only the Standard Pack. Still not going to pull the trigger on the Hero version till after they drop and I see if I like the chassis to begin with. But if so, there is ZERO chance in heck that I'll buy the Collector's Upgrade, and a very very strong probablity of the Spirit Bear in my Hanger.

I did, because OMGKODIAKS but really, without twist/turn quirks the 1 is junk for me compared to the rest. I was planning on selling the 5 anyways, as I'm not interested in energy boating my Kodiaks, so giving up twist and turn quirks for more E hardpoints I don't care about isn't worthwhile. Ah well.
I should have known better; I *DO* know better. Buy the base pack for the preorder bonus, then wait till release to see what else you want.

Im the same, i bought collectors and regret it - i didnt buy the reinforcements though and wont, now.
It would be much better business from PGI to let players pick which variant they want the C-Bill boost to be on when upgrading to collectors. Id buy it almost every time i bought a pack..
and i also know better *smacks head*

Yeah. I love the Collector's version skin, a lot, but given the options of variants, I'll never run it.
While I can think of builds I'd run with the 8E (2LPL, 6 ERSL) I don't care anywhere near enough to be worth the massive mobility loss. At least the Spirit Bear, 2, 3, and 4 - all the ones I actually care about - have twistyquirks.
Ah well.

I'm still going to enjoy kicking people's arses with my laser vomit.
Might go with 2 Large Pulse, 5 Medium, and a UAC/20 backed up with 2 SRM6.
Oh and I'm painting it pink and calling it Bishop's Secret Weapon. When Decals Come I'm going to put your name on it and laugh manically as every kill I say "Bishop's extends his greetings to you from me!".

For my KDK-1 I plan on 8 SPLs, 1 LPL and a UAC10 with everything else as DHS or ammo.
I'm mostly looking forward to the KDK-3 and my quad UAC5 monster but I'm also really excited about the lazor clawz!

Hero Atlas is $30 bucks off sale. Champion Direwolf is $36 bucks, USD.
So yes, the Collector is still cheaper, but what you are getting is a 30% cbill boost retread of a Mech you already got in the Std Pack, while you can get the same boost in a unique hardpoint Hero version for 5$ less.
Also, no one in their right mind buys Champion versions.

Pretty much my thoughts on these packs. Unless I just completely fall in love with the main variant of the chassis there's not much sense in getting the Collector's. Admittedly I'm a bit tempted to upgrade my MAD pack, but money has been pretty tight lately.
I also find it odd that PGI offers absolutely no incentive whatsoever to pre-order these packs if you miss the early adopter's window. Seems like they dropped the ball on that whole thing, and considering they used to offer staggered entry incentives for mech packs in the past, its absence for these single chassis packs is even more baffling.

On my KDK1, I won't plan most of my actual firepower in the arms...because they are going to be shielding my torso and get blown off. A lot. So it seems a poor choice to place my firepower in my shields, if I can avoid it. ERSLs will probably be all they get.
KDK3 and KDK-SB are the tastiest looking ones to me, but the 2 allows me some variety and option s with the JJs and such.
In all, I still find the KDK as a whole to be looking like a good buy. But the value between the C-Pack and Hero seems pretty questionable.
Russ has stated they will re-evaluate the Quirks or need thereof for the 1 and 5 post delivery, but with the laser vomit meta were "scared" to quirk them. They may be right. And better to have to buff than to have to nerf. That said, as stated, I think they will have more hardpoints than they can effectively use, but some folks will be running around with 6-8 LPL stinkfists, regardless, or some other extreme build.

also find it odd that they don't give you any real incentive to buy the "Ultimate" packs, like extra swag (ala the collectors pack, premium time, etc) or a 10% discount... instead it's a "hey if you're feeling lazy and don't want to enter the info separate, One Click" thing.
The convenience is nice, I guess, if you are planning to get them all, but if they added some value, it would get people who weren't already planning on buying it all, too.
