exactly. KDK-3 with mobility quirks, a faster XL (325 or 350) and doesnt look like a truck's front. i can speculate LBX brawling could be viable.

if not, i'll just stay away with CUACs and CERMLs

DWF-B

Well as you can see here, the DWF build has 1 ton to spare at an XL engine.
But. the DWF has no endo nor ferro. It has 9 slots left. But we also have some fixed DHS, wich the Kodiak will not have

In other words, we have to deduct 3 DHS (3t and 6 Slots), This leaves with 4 free tonnage and 15 Slots. With 15 slots assigned to Endo and Ferro, you get an additional 5 ton + 1.75 ton.

Wich gets you 10.75 tonnage over. Wich you can use for an engine upgrade from that stocky 300. Enough for a XL 350 engine with its DHS installed.

And the kodiaks ballistic hardpoints are High mounted

So you get a 350 XL engine, 14 DHS, LBX10 quad cannon with 8 ton of ammo and 4 powerfull ER ML's as backup. Now thats an impressive build.

that's a really good analysis sir. tho i'd take just endo and i could even lower a bit arms/leg armor for a couple extra DHS.

Even a 2xUAC20 chainfire and 2CERLPL+2CERML build would be quite scary.

damn i have so many builds i would try it will take a week to benchmark em all...

From my tinkering with Smurfy and using an atlas running Endo and an XL350 (if they weigh the same as clan XLS)

with 73 leg armor and all engine sinks you have 50.5 tons to toss weapons on with. 49 if you're a good boy and mount an AMS. NOt bad at ALL.

Mind you, I'm on record as stating the Collectors Pack are about twice as expensive as they should be, and that the inability to choose which variant you want to be your Money Maker, silly.

That said, when looking at Hardpoints vs Quirks.....

Yes, the KDK-1 is a hardpoint BEAST (12 hardpoints, 9 of them energy). In fact, so much so, that it will be nigh impossible to actualyl use all of them in an optimal build (think: Stalker Syndrome). And ZERO quirks. No Structure, no Agility.

In contrast?

The Spirit Bear: Only 7 hardpoints, of which only 2 are the energy Boogeyman. On the other hand, it still packs a the ability for a massive Clan UAC and a buttload of SRM/SSRMs in the torso. And MASC. And a +30% Accel/Decel Quirk, and a +35% Twist Speed Quirk, on a mech with a MASC enhanced 400c-XL. And some mild structure buffs.

Oh..and costs 5$ less to upgrade to than the Collectors version.

So yeah, glad I waited, bought only the Standard Pack. Still not going to pull the trigger on the Hero version till after they drop and I see if I like the chassis to begin with. But if so, there is ZERO chance in heck that I'll buy the Collector's Upgrade, and a very very strong probablity of the Spirit Bear in my Hanger.

When I pick up someone's wrekted Kodiak up off the battlefield I am retrofiting it with 9 Small Lasers.

$20 extra gets you

A fancy paint job.

A mech with a 30% C-bill bonus.

An extra 30 day premium, worth it if you don't plan on buying every mech, not so if your going to buy every one that comes out.

six extra cockpit items.

So I kind of see it as not awful, but not good value either.

A lot depends on how much of the fluff has meaning to each person.

I think maybe, this thread wouldn't exist if all the kodi's had quirks, and if that's the case, we can point the finger at the people that scream P2W at every new mech release

I regret buying the Collectors Pack.

I did, because OMGKODIAKS but really, without twist/turn quirks the 1 is junk for me compared to the rest. I was planning on selling the 5 anyways, as I'm not interested in energy boating my Kodiaks, so giving up twist and turn quirks for more E hardpoints I don't care about isn't worthwhile. Ah well.

I should have known better; I *DO* know better. Buy the base pack for the preorder bonus, then wait till release to see what else you want.

you nailed it word for word. i'll know better and be ready when the Mad Cat MKII drops at the end of this year
*oops, spoiler alert ;) *

Well, yes, there are those who think spinners and a fancy paintjob on a civic is a better deal than a stock 911.

But in the real world we call them delusional. ;)

The mead will flow as readily as the blood of thy vatborn brothers as I pull mine axe from thy Kodiak's chest.

Also 911s suck. Real car guys go for the Vette. ;)

Today, it's actually widely known to be the Cayman, not the 911. The 911 in GT3 trims is the performance option, but driving pleasure is the Cayman.

911 suck?

L.... O..... L!

I know each car has its own character and its own type of petrol heads!

But 911 is 20 years ahead of ANY CAR in the world when it comes to quality, the driving experience and level of engineering sophistication!

The Corvette has been for the last 32 years, and will always be forever faster around the track. The 911 is for drs that think they're buying a real car. "Drivers car" is what the guy driving it tells himself as he gets flogged by eight cylinders of Americana, that pulls a corner better, stops quicker.

The 911 doesn't even make the right noises either for that matter. If I want that sound track, I'll just buy another 3.8 Firebird and slap a turbo on it.
I've no real interest in owning a 911, after dusting 3 of them at Carolina Motorsports Park. I also didn't like it's driving characteristics. The Cayman handles better, since it's engine isn't stuffed PAST the rear axles. I'd rather have a modded Cayman than a 911 anyday of the week. Seriously.

I also wasn't impressed with the 911s exceedingly high moment of polar inertia. Ever drive a 911 with the nannies turned off? The thing instantaneously becomes a freaking death trap.
That besides, ever see a 911 that can survive for 27 years and be flogged within an inch of it's life and still pull as good as the day it rolled off the show room in the 1/4mile? Let alone survive road course duty? I haven't.

My Vette's done both. I've never even SEEN a 911 that's that old.

The 911 also looks like a stretched punch buggy.
Porsche has made some fantastic cars, but the 911 really is kind of the overrated one in the bunch. The 918... the Carerra GT.. Those are pretty fantastic. The Cayman even..if only Porsche would allow the sacred cow of their 911 brand protection just die already and give it horsepower it would absolutely blow the doors off the 911, even the GT3 and TT models.

Every Corvette after the C3, is really a special car. The C4, was so dominant in SCCA Showroom Stock, AND the Escort Stock series, that it was BANNED for winning literally every race for three years straight with 8 of the top 10 cars being C4s. Porsche, Nissan and Ferrari ALL threatened to leave the series, if the Corvette wasn't banned. That's how the Corvette Challenge series got started in the 80s and early 90s. These are cars, that literally had no mods, other than the roll cages for safety. You bought them from a standard dealer, and took them to the track.

To say nothing of the C5, and C6s utter dominance in road racing..

As far as Drivers Car goes, the one with more potential in lap time, and rewards the driver with an ever faster time goes..the Vette beats it..handily.
In sound imo... a flat six..is never going to sound as good as a V8 over 4.0 liters.

In service life... owning a Porsche post warranty is an excercize in futility if you don't have more money than sense. Parts availability... I can go to virtually any parts store in the US, and fix a vette in 24 hours or less when something breaks. Even just going from the track down to the local oreillys.

Looks... Stretched Beetle.... vs long nosed sleek, wide, and low slung.

Is that why they get spanked by several seconds a lap in every comparison test, and get stomped so hard in professional racing that Porsche won't even stay in the same class that any corvette enters for more than a season?

The 911 isn't nearly as good as what people think it is.
Also fun fact, guess what the first production car to exceed 1G on a skid pad was.

It wasn't the 911. It wasn't even German, or Italian for that matter.

not an issue for me. C-UAC10 is the best ballistic in the entire game. (Not counting overquirked exceptions). I can't wait to rain Mass Dakka, though my plan is a Dual UAC10 in on torso, and a UAC20 in the other. Haven't settled on the Energy Weapons yet. Probably hit smurfy for an hour or two when they post on tuesday.

I like that the Primary 3 and the SB have different enough aspect to really let you run each differently. Last mech I bought that really exemplified that well, overall was the Warhammer.

So something like this?

It's not, though. The 911 has been bloated down and pushed toward being more of a GT car, except for the GT3 trims which are pure performance. So, I suppose, you need to qualify "purist." If you mean pure performance? Yes. If you mean pure drivers' car? No. The Cayman GT4 is the pinnacle of driver's car.
