Friends don't let friends buy plastic American toys. 911 are world renowned as THE drivers car for a reason. Ever drive one?
The Corvette has been for the last 32 years, and will always be forever faster around the track. The 911 is for drs that think they're buying a real car. "Drivers car" is what the guy driving it tells himself as he gets flogged by eight cylinders of Americana, that pulls a corner better, stops quicker.
The 911 doesn't even make the right noises either for that matter. If I want that sound track, I'll just buy another 3.8 Firebird and slap a turbo on it.
I've no real interest in owning a 911, after dusting 3 of them at Carolina Motorsports Park. I also didn't like it's driving characteristics. The Cayman handles better, since it's engine isn't stuffed PAST the rear axles. I'd rather have a modded Cayman than a 911 anyday of the week. Seriously.
I also wasn't impressed with the 911s exceedingly high moment of polar inertia. Ever drive a 911 with the nannies turned off? The thing instantaneously becomes a freaking death trap.
That besides, ever see a 911 that can survive for 27 years and be flogged within an inch of it's life and still pull as good as the day it rolled off the show room in the 1/4mile? Let alone survive road course duty? I haven't.
My Vette's done both. I've never even SEEN a 911 that's that old.
The 911 also looks like a stretched punch buggy.
Porsche has made some fantastic cars, but the 911 really is kind of the overrated one in the bunch. The 918... the Carerra GT.. Those are pretty fantastic. The Cayman even..if only Porsche would allow the sacred cow of their 911 brand protection just die already and give it horsepower it would absolutely blow the doors off the 911, even the GT3 and TT models.
Every Corvette after the C3, is really a special car. The C4, was so dominant in SCCA Showroom Stock, AND the Escort Stock series, that it was BANNED for winning literally every race for three years straight with 8 of the top 10 cars being C4s. Porsche, Nissan and Ferrari ALL threatened to leave the series, if the Corvette wasn't banned. That's how the Corvette Challenge series got started in the 80s and early 90s. These are cars, that literally had no mods, other than the roll cages for safety. You bought them from a standard dealer, and took them to the track.
To say nothing of the C5, and C6s utter dominance in road racing..
As far as Drivers Car goes, the one with more potential in lap time, and rewards the driver with an ever faster time goes..the Vette beats it..handily.
In sound imo... a flat six..is never going to sound as good as a V8 over 4.0 liters.
In service life... owning a Porsche post warranty is an excercize in futility if you don't have more money than sense. Parts availability... I can go to virtually any parts store in the US, and fix a vette in 24 hours or less when something breaks. Even just going from the track down to the local oreillys.
Looks... Stretched Beetle.... vs long nosed sleek, wide, and low slung.
