Some quick basic stuff while I wait.

If engaging in open combat (no cover)...
  • Move diagonally and encircle your opponent if you're on the attack. Diagonally moving targets are harder to hit than those rushing head-on.
  • If you're engaging more than 3 opponents, then fight knowing you will not survive.
    • 3 or less and anyone could turn that around with a calm and methodical approach though the bigger you are the easier this would be.
    • If three or less, focus on the easiest / weakest kill first and neutralize it. It's easier to deal with 2 targets and two thermal bars than three. Then decide who is the bigger threat.
    • Using mechs with light rear armor (unless Timber Wolf or Marauder) I take out the fastest of the two first via legging (not a full kill; a legging) and then move on to the big guy.
    • If my rear armor is heavier (such as I'm using a Stalker), I bull-rush the big guy and close into a range where his weapons cannot focus properly (don't do this against laser boats since range doesn't matter for them unless your geometry can split it up) and then blast until he's dead before whirling around.... the light will run away or if they insist on fighting, throw it in half-reverse and then turn against their circling pattern and blast. Don't track; keep cutting them off instead. If too fast for you, a request for help before this point goes a long way.
  • Put out a distress call immediately. (Actual quotes from a recent match: "Hey, uh, Jenner in E3. Whatever your name is come to D2, need assist. Enemy light, can't shake him. Got too much ammo to die just yet."
    • Uunless it is clear that even your rescuers would perish. (Actual quotes from one Zhizhu group match in 2013: Pole: "I'm engaged; superior force." Unknown: "Understood, coming to assist." Pole: "That's a negative, I cannot be salvaged. Recommend you watch your Two-Eight-Zero. Will stall them.")
  • If your enemy is fast, go for a leg. If your enemy seems unusually well equipped, shoot for the side torso (but do test the leg; many assaults weaken legs or arms to carry bigger guns and engines).
  • If using ballistics, note that a constant fire setup like 2 UAC/5s and 2 AC/5s requires a lot of 'face time' which means no ability to defend yourself while shooting. Make sure your shots are going to count and see if you can get someone to tank for you.
Fighting in enclosed spaces is often much simpler; use cover, shoot when you can, etc.

I try to stay with the group or at very least my lance as much as possible. With 4 torso mounted weapons I am forced to expose myself very often but I am noticing my arms are getting blown off more with this build than my direwolves. Not sure if that is a product of my twisting or hard point location but its keeping my alive longer.

Copy/paste "Plain" links. :)
This 7S is running standard heatsinks.
Unlike Battletech, MWO basically screws you over for standards.
Here.
This will help. Also this is a humanoid build, if you find enemies sneaking behind you to kill you then up the rear armor to 12 each.
You now have full (useful) standard armor, 10 double heatsinks and 6 free tons. Load 'er up.

Also...
6S? Smurfy seems to have nothing on it. And your 7S isn't stock.

Here's a 6R build. PPCs for your heavy hits, the 4 SPL + twin MGs are meant for the same firing group, that'll scare the living crap out of anything that gets too close -- and what it doesn't scare it will kill. The SRM-6 is for added firepower.

A mod to that build that'd fit more along the way I play...
It exploits the bug-they-will-never-fix of Artemis-enhanced lock on times for a Streak system to help deal with lights and pepper enemies; tie it into the 4 SPL + 2 MG fire button so they all fire together. No chain firing it.

I think you'll do alright. But for high face-time (DPS) builds, don't get too close and use someone as your tank.

For something like your 4 LPL build, fire the lasers 2 then 2. Or to simplify it, put them all on the torsos then fire two then two as in left then right. Matches my Boar's Head Atlas. If you get the build to a 45% or higher cooling efficiency you'll be able to really duke it out. I confess I usually go for 50 to 60% for any "one weapon wonder" builds.

And for the mech I built the Warhammer 6R... PPCs until they get too close, then let 'em have all the other guns relentlessly.

I have been working on staying at 400M with my Dakka build Black Widow. Nothing in close.
I really like the PPC combo with all the close range weapons for in tight fighting. I might have to give that a try.

I know your running stock to save cbills, but I modified your build a bit to help you farm cbills faster, while also at the same time, allow you to practice A-sym fighting!

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...b6c0dc617e5ecab

Notice its the same weapon load out, just moved around to be left heavy. (You can rotate them to the right side if you prefer).

Let me explain A-sym fighting first.

weapons are placed heavily on 1 side. This opens up multiple techniques you can employ.

1) this allows you to peak out only 1 side of your mech when trading. So instead of exposing all of your mech, you can reverse back into cover earlier since you only need to poke out half your mech.

In this case, you peak out to your left, and before your beam duration ends, you start to reverse back into cover. This gives your enemy less time to react to your peak.

2) allows sword and board shielding, so you can block with your right, and shoot with your left.

Now this build isnt fully A-sym, because you gave a gun on your right, so make sure you make 2 weapon groups 3+1. Granted I would either drop the right LPL and swap into Mpl and another heat sink.

http://mwo.smurfy-ne...5f40a342c640c2d

or swap to an XL and go with 5 LPL, but this build is probably too slow to be viable, Ill post the smurfy just incase, but I dont recommend it...

5LPL and 16 heatsinks is too hot without ridiculous heat gen quirks. Trust me on that.

You wouldn't be able to use it for repeat use.
Aim for head. Bam.

Move on.

Cool off.

Repeat.

I have been away for painful personal reasons. I will be taking a break from MWO for a little while longer, because I will be out of state visiting my Dad who is suffering from cancer.

In his diagnosis he contracted this type of cancer from exposure to "certain elements" during his tours in Vietnam.

I'm sorry to hear that.
Both of my parents have fallen to different forms of cancer. Dad at 53. Mom at, uh, come to think about it I don't know how old she was but a few years after. Mom and I weren't close. I would have gone to see her, but I wasn't told for weeks after the fact.

I'm glad your father will have you there by his side. Listen to what he says, and do yourself a favor: Make sure the Will isn't written on a piece of notebook paper, please! It will save you a lot of hassle.

Thanks bro. I am really sorry to hear about your parents.

After what happened in my family with the death of my Grandpa 2013. (They lost their freaking minds!) I am staying clear of stupid family squabbles over inheritance. I just hope that issue is farther in the future. He is tough and I told him he needs to fight.

Keep the Kemo (Chemo) treatments low.

Dad had apparently had his cancer for about 6-7 years before finding out why he wasn't feeling good (other doctors kept saying "It's depression", then this one checks the spinal fluid from his back injury and its bone dry and filled with cartilage fragments, sequential X-rays uncovered bits of his cartilage had lodged into his organs). Gave that grim diagnosis of course and was absolutely flabberghasted he was still seemingly 'healthy' on the outside.

Easily could have lived another 7 years, but only got two and the chemo just drained it out of him. Radiation, especially in the pill form, attacks everything and not just the cancer.

Here's to hoping for the best. Many have survived. Perhaps your dad will too.

My parents are doctors, and they say modern Chemo treatment is far better than what it was...but for a time, it produced horrendous side effects.

Sorry to hear that Jack. Try to find a way to enjoy your time together.

On a game note, I did log in quick and grab the early adopters on the Linebacker. Figured why not. I can add the Hero later if its worth it.

I also play Madden football so around the middle of this month I will take a little break from MWO while I play the new madden. been a habit of mine and my brothers for 20+ years so its not going away.

I will likely have some time to jump into a few games tonight if anyone is around. I have been off line for a while but not because I have lost love for the game.
I am also planning on grabbing at least 1 Atlas and 1 King Crab in this sale.

I'm on. If you use Steam go ahead and add "Koniving" on there. At the moment I'm playing Metal Gear Solid V: Phantom Pain.

I can drop with you when you're playing.
