out of curiosity, how much does it cost to actually print something like that? I've always loved screwing around with CAD and stuff, but not having a real outlet puts a damper on the fun.

Done a bit more work on it last night. Still a long way off but getting there. I still need to add the yellow paint details and all the armor plate line chipping and wear, plus more shading, rust and maybe even decals. She's gonna look good once she's finished! (I hope!)
Thanks a lot for all the feedback guys! Really appreciate it!
Koniving thanks a lot for the screen reference! I'm going for a mix between the old Founders paintjob and the more worn off new one. My blue paint will be more prominent and less chipped but I want to have more battle damage as well as rust on her to make her look aged and overused - just like my own Founders Cats haha

The stuff you tech minded guys can achieve these days is amazing.
How good would that look on your desk?

If you can get some clear thin sheets of plastic, it might benefit the build to layer those over the printed model's windows. Alternatively, application of a couple layers of gloss varnish over the windows. I mean, the model looks astoundingly good. That's why the windows seem like they could use a little something extra to accentuate the rest.

I already have a coat of Citadel varnish on top of it. The crappy photo doesn't really show it. .... It is a difficult one for sure!

As a modeler myself... There are several ways to make simulated glass. A clear gloss varnish (under the weathering effects) is one option. A clear plastic canopy that has been painted on the underside is the other easy option. The more difficult to pull off option is to paint as accurate of reflective spot as possible, probably some white lines along the edges and a corner of the screens (as light hitting it would dictate).
Overall, you've been doing a great job so far here!
Is there any tips you can give to someone wishing to do this same thing? Did you create the 3D file by hand, or use a MW:O asset for it? (I'd love to make one of these of the Crab...)

I guess you also wanted it to mix in the orange cockpit glass of the ordinry CAT variants, instead of the green one which came with the Founders Catapult along with the bluish Founder paintjob. It turned out nice, kinda like hot (orange) and cold (blue) contrast with some yellow details.
Anyway. l love the looks of your mech, great work!!

Thanks a lot! I have purchased this Catapult file from website called Gambody. It is a caustom, much higher resolution model to that of the in-game extracted files. It has extensive detailed modeled in as well as articulation. The file is also fixed to be print-friendly and already sectioned for you.
In regards of the Crab mech, I would use a custom 3D model made by one of the users here instead of the in-game model. I can't remember the user's name but you can probably search it here. He also did Flea model. In-game models don't have any extensive details on the meshes since those are shown using normal maps. The meshes themselves need a lot of fixing to do as well.

Thanks a lot man I appreciate it. I have tried to do a Founders green glass canopy but it just didn't looked right to me and wasn't all shiny like the golden one does. In my thinking, golden canopy glass gotta be some sort of polarized glass to protect the pilot from exposing themselves to the harsh bright lights of laser fire... Theoretically lol The gold canopy made more sense haha

Ah man I always stand by the Citadel paint range. Tamiya stuff is good too but Citadel is much more readily available and easier to use. Go for Citade if in doubt, plus you can always get some amazing painting tips if you pop into your local Games Workshop shop and tell them what you need painting
