You know what's really, darkly hilarious? If PGI were to fail, go under, and against all odds some studio actually licences the IP from Microsoft, it'd almost certainly be to make a MechWarrior game even worse than MWO, one faster and Hawkenesque, with even more exploitive monetization schemes because that's what's in vogue right now.

Fair point... Surprisingly few people who yearn for PGI/MWO to shutter their doors even consider this.

Good God, things COULD actually be worse!... Posted Image

"The company values are "Creativity, Passion and Humility." It's sad that people in charge contradict their own set of values. They stifle creativity by shooting down ideas because their egos get in the way, effectively killing any passion for the work. I have never ever seen management show any kind of humility, just a lot of bitterness and arrogance."

Why.... why... why does this just remind me "We don't need your suggestions, we perfectly know what to do" ???

Just imagine Cryptic Studios and PWE getting ahold of the franchise. People think this game is bad. Ya'll aint seen nothing yet.

What MWO IS, is an average to above average game.
As a F2P game, that makes it Well Above Average.

Agreed, EA's travesty of a Mechwarrior vision would probably make PGI look downright sim-loving.

For all its misses, PGI has actually come a lot closer to Battletech's pace and ethos than they've ever been given credit for. If they promised a full-on hardcore sim and didn't deliver, it's probably because they realized midstream that a lot of hardcore ideas (like repair and rearm, and yes, lack of 3PV) weren't going to sell well with the wider audience they needed. Had they given us the sim they promised at first, this game would very likely be dead by now. Their mistake wasn't in breaking their promise; their mistake WAS the promise, ill-advised and without foresight.

What baffles me is players like GRiPSVIGIL, who has long crossed the point fo no return and find no redemption in MWO, yet continue to crusade for PGI/MWO demise and dismantlement...

Because it's no different from being cheated by their girlfriend I guess. It says that they invested so much emotion in this game and PGI.

I hate to do this but I am going to break my own rule and post one last reply..... and this is due to the amount of PMs I got from people telling me how my original post predicted almost a 100% on the responses that I would get from the cult-members.

1. Cult-members will freak the eff out ... Check
2. Insults about my moma and being called an idiots/outsider/noob etc. ..... Check
3. Attacks on my fonts and my literacy .... Check
4. Cult-members uses selective reading to attack my post..... Check
5. Cult-members blame it on the faction I choose in game as a reason for my rant.... lol... Check
6. After exhausting insults, they goes after everyone else that stated their own unbiased opinion... Check
7. They all banded together, supporting each others insults like what I would expect from a cult..... Check
8. Most of the heated response comes from people that invested a lot into MWO.... Check (look at their profile)

And the list goes on... Some even took my sincere apology post that I posted earlier today as a "high horse riding a-hole"
and they even went after the font I used.... just to be clear, I used big fonts to cover half of a page so the mob can put down their pitch forks for a second and cool down their excitement about burning witches.....

Like how I said it in my original post and the apology post... I want no part in these kind of community.... the people that pour their money and time into it are just way too fanatic about the whole thing and they would freak out over an opinion. (that is why I don't ever meddle with the forums even though I've been playing since 2013)

Like I said, if you don't like it.. just move on, but that is too hard for most of the cult-members because they are too spiteful to let go.

I even show one of my friend this post today (I got him into MWO recently too)...... and his response was....

"damn, this community is like KKK or something, either you are one of them or you are a N"

He told me that he is going to play with me until he runs out of premium time and he is going to leave MWO in the dark.
I tried to make him stay and told him to ignore the cult, but he told me that...

"the longer I play this game the more I feel like those fanatics will be going after me too if I made a public opinion."

yep.... Also some of my PMs are from new players saying almost the same things that my friend said.

9. Scares away new players that could possibly support MWO...... Check..

Just saying, if you actually read through all of my posts... I don't insult anyone off the bat and I thank everyone for contributing their inputs ... good or bad.
I also use a bigger font because of my eyesight.... so you can laugh at that if you want.

But I am just glad this post got as many views and attention it did, because it really shows everything I said in my original post to be true, especially about the "cult" part.

On top of this, a lot of those new players that PMed me also thanked me for saving them from investing too much into this game, after seeing first-handed how the community is like themselves. (I am not proud of this, because I do want to see MWO flourish)

No where in my post that I said "I F@cking hate this game". I simply said that "I am sadden to see how the Mechwarrior Series ended up to be."

But after this whole thing... I come to really despise this community...
regardless, another fanatic will also attack this post and try to make it into a "last laugh" type of deal.

anyways, I can't win a "cult-mentality" driven mob, so I am abandoning this post for good after this.

MODERATORS... again... please lock this thread if you see this.. to avoid further unnecessary conflict between your die-hard fans and potential future customers.

For everyone else. Once again, I thank you all for your inputs, comments, and unbiased information.

Oh and Please, no more PMs, Good PM or Bad PM.. I am going to ignore it all, sorry guys... it's just too much to read. Thanks for letting me know though.. for those that PMed me earlier.

Which is, if anything, a damning if entirely true statement about F2P gaming.

Its the devil, I swear. F2P gaming has lead to a whole new realm of entitled twats, and even more abhorrent, exploitive monetisation schemes designed to play off player psychology to milk as much money as possible out of people.

F2P gaming is the worst thing that's ever happened to video gaming.

Ragging on people because they are video game fans.
And your not, thats why your on some game forum.
That is really pathetic.
You also listed no facts at all, nothing about financial state of the company.
It would almost seem like your trolling for the sake of trolling, or writing some twisted pyschology paper.
I have an idea of a topic for you, since your not a game fan who invests his time and money into it, throw your cellphone in the garbage and never use social media again, and tell us about the effect that has on your sanity.

You keep referring to everyone here as cult members and you are complaining that everyone is calling you names hahaha.

Are you like some bible bashing twit that can't understand why people don't follow your god whatever that is or do anything that is not your obsession?

People like this game because it has expanded into many formats and has a huge universe with many conflicts.

Those that like this game want to pay money to support it in the format it is in. Sure they always would like it to be extended too.

Do you have a problem with that?

Are you another developer for something mecha or are you just a ****?

I really do not understand the point of these discussions, only PGI has the figures about its game, only PGI know the numbers of active players, the average spending per players and, in the end, how is the profitability on MWO as a business.
As a player I can only play the game and buy the proposed contents, if I feel that they're worth something to me. If the game become too boring to play (and in the long run, all games become boring at a certain point) I'll find some other game or similar entertainment.
If you think you can do better than PGI, found a Game Studio, hire the devs, buy a triple A game engine license, buy the Battletech rights and develop the game of your dream. I will be VERY interested in playing it.
I do not see many AAA titles based on Battletech or mech in general and I think that this game will be always a niche game for people interested in battletech lore (a game that is 40 years old) so it's quite useless to compare it with other "mainstream" FPS.
See Hawken or IL2 for comparison:
http://steamcharts.com/app/307960
http://steamcharts.com/app/271290

Ok, IL2 is a hardcore simulation, but MWO is in the middle between a casual FPS and a mech sim IMHO.

Lol look at the actual numbers for hawken. 24 hour peak of 293 players, and Hawken is IIRC only available via Steam.

like the forums have this quota they need to meet, a certain number of "the game is dying!" posts per week.

Eventually, someone will be right, but at 4 years, and judging by how many Kodiak packs people clearly bought, the game is doing fine.

But, but, but, some random nobody has the "facts" and this time, no - really, this time, it is the end of MWO!

We've GOT to take him serious, this time. Every other prediction has been flat out wrong, but this time, MWO is dying! Steam says so!

PGI and it's cult members are so dumb to be buying Mech Packs and joining in this competition because HE KNOWS MWO is dying in his ultimate wisdom.

Now that we have this valuable information right from the horses ***, we can all rest easy and move on.

There are only two "cult like" behaviors in this thread.

The first is the rethorical trick of preemptively dividing the expected responses into "us and them" type categories, this case by first describing any potential criticism as "cult like" and then smugly confirm that to yourself afterwards. Add in an unconfirmable claim of being bombarded with private supporting messages and/or hate, and you have the perfect example of circular logic packed in delusions of grandeur. Now THAT is cult like, or to use proper english: Sectarian.

The second one is the creepy-stalker-obsessive-ex partner syndrome displayed by the tendency to post Doom&Gloom threads in the first place. MWO has an unusual number of these weird people that quits the game but never quits the hating.

Note that doom&gloom thread are 100% useless regardless of whether they are true or not. So what if the game is "dying? No online game lives forever and all you can do is to positively or negatively impact the pace of decline.

Play or don't, and be aware that spending money is to be regarded not as purchasing an item, but more like spending money on time limited entertainment, like a cinema ticket or snack. That is the correct frame of mind for F2P gaming, the game WILL die but you're having your fun TODAY so that isn't a problem.

If you're still playing, it's counter productive to profess the imminent death of the game because it's going to kill it faster and reduce your own remaining playtime. If you're not still playing the game shouldn't be your concern anymore and the only effect a thread like this will have is to reduce the remaining fun.

Doom and Gloom threads are always useless, often directly malicious, and never adds anything of value. Making threads like that means you are a sad ****. If you feel the urge to post things like this, the correct course of action is to quit playing the game and find another hobby.

Eh. Dying or not, those who like it will play it and those who don't won't. Except for the rather strange crowd of people that claim to not like it but instead of finding something else to spend their time on choose to stick around to tell others how wrong they are in enjoying the game. Go figure.

Anyway, yeah. The game isn't huge, probably never will be, unless major changes happen in not just the game itself but the PR department and all things related. It's still probably at least paying back for itself though, and as long as that's the case it won't be going anywhere too soon. Not while it still has players and potential to improve.
