I would be happy to be proved wrong. I like a number of things MWO brings to the table.
But it has too many issues, horrible development pace and ability, and a severely diminishing player base (out of an already small one), of which it seems a lot of die hards (much less more casuals) are no longer willing to invest.
It feels like the beginning of the end.
Well if it is, it doesn't make sense. At this point there would be a line up a mile long to take this game and continue on with it.
One of Ubisoft's strongest titles is "For Honour" and they are desperately trying work out a way to make it something like what MechWarrior Online has on the faction map. Just one example. This game is way ahead of the competition for the most part.
I was thinking maybe Titanfall 2 would be serious competition for MechWarrior Online, for a while, but then I seen E3. Not a chance.
As it is there are quite a few top games coming out that will be taking most of the market share. ME 4 and others. But MechWarrior Online is looking really good to. Infinite Warfare made a huge move with first person bridge on capital ship

Sony is doing very well.
*spoiler* I am almost 100% sure Infinite Warfare will add the other faction as playable some time.

Personally, i can not understand that. heavy gear would be bloody perfect for faction VS faction combat, then again, battletech "would" be perfect too. we all know how "that" turned out.
honestly, merc/faction warfare? armored core beats them all, every single mech involved sim/shooter should be darn happy that armored core does NOT have a PC multiplayer otherwise they would wipe the floor with their competition.

Armored Core... a game where adding strong legs gives your arms more health, and you can die from repeatedly getting shot in the tip of one finger...

It only makes sense to improve the PvP element in this game first. Game modes like Solaris are more reasonable and easier/less costly to develop than PvE.

Right now, the area that would benefit from PVE would be FP instead of ghost drops, until actual humans (did I just typed that??) defend/attack. On Defend, it would only come into play if there are wedges not owned by the defenders.
What would suck is if one side had long tom, and not player side but the E side /shudders...

but PvE will make A LOT of money. All the players who didn't want to get into MWO because its PvP will get in now. I think many players here were just forced to play PvP because there was no PvE. I was one of them.

How do you plan to monetise PvE?

Many solo adventures are pretty complex with story lines and voice acting and knowing the online folks even if mwo had some great AI turkey shooting mazes folks would still raise a stink. I would love 1-4 players training arenas for skill building and group training and could see that as a part of a still PVP oriented game. BUT I WOULD STILL SAY BUT............

copy EA. Sell a SP campaign which looks awesome, don't finish it, and unlock everything via DLC. Should be able to monetise about $120 per player if they play their cards right.
Start with a campaign over a planet, except reveal at the end, its a massive campaign over an entire sector, and end with a cliffhanger, the main character seems to fall into one of those bottomless pit. Also, introduce a sidekick with a mysterious past, that you can play through via DLC. A particularly charismatic villain will do (clan campaign!), or both. Make the main campaign a 3-part DLC chain. Have a survival co-op mode, where you can only take a single type of mech in, but to unlock other heroes via DLC. Force people to buy their own mechs into the game. Restrict missions via mechs, ie only IS medium mechs with no laser hardpoints. Do the skinner-box approach, complete this mission to get this boost that'll help you kill dudes faster, so you can get more equipment to kill dudes faster.
There has been plenty of precedence on how to monetise SP games, they just need to copy some of it. Its not ideal, but at this point, I think most of us rather pay to do it rather than continue with the whole do you want to buy a mechpack thing.

Ah, but you see, PGI refuses to borrow good ideas from other companies because they want to be original.
Would you like to buy a key for your lockbox?
