I'm trying to be less salty on the forums lately but this one was so correct I had to like it.

There is literally no negative to gathering consumer feedback and used intelligently it's the best possible tool for product development. The primary reason to avoid it is not wanting to hear what your customers have to say.

;)

As for me, trying not to become too salty. Still hopeful and want to give constructive criticism and feedback.

We need surveys.

If you ask me what should be done for FW/CW to make it "better" or "complete", well, its simple..

Right now, its still pretty much arena-based narrow-point warfare. There's no actual "war", no action conflict.. the planets still don't really matter to a faction, and the game modes are still few, repetative and require very little strategy.

So to fix it all, give us everything that a proper war should have.

1) Let each planet be unique, valuable, and make a difference when you take it or lose it.

2) Bring "The War" into the front, make it important, make it public, make the game feel like its all about the war.. not about killing mechs, but about using mechs for a purpose.

3) Give us leaders - hire real people and give them lore-important names / accounts, and make them lead their factions. (I've all ready seen many famous names, dropped with Natasha Kerensky and many others, but they did not lead their teams much, don't really know what their purpose in the game is right now). Pay these people real money to play 8 hours a day and oversee official TS accounts, factions and coordinate the war efforts.

4) Disband all units, and instead divert players into factions. No more hundreads of clan wolf units - Just one unified Clan Wolf faction for instance.. with its's own teamspeak, a real PGI sponsored Khan and leadership.

5) Turn planets from MC-cash cow dots into Strategic resources that provide tech, upgrades, resources, and other valuables.

6) Give us an economy we can be a part of, that we can menage, and protect with our Armor.

7) Make planetary conquest more interesting, more open, and make it feel "grand". Do this with realistic missions, not arena deathmatch.

8) Give us news feeds from the battlefield. Report about heroic deeds, planets lost, battles won, and gloryous deaths.

9) Make the war realistic. War is hell. Show us that. Where are the refugees, where are the defeated bondsmen, where is all the damage that war causes?

10) Make it easier for us to become legends in our own right - give us more lore, more fluff, more roleplay elements, make a better skill tree, mech specializations and in general, let us make mechs more "ours"

Honestly, and I hate to say this, but it appears to me that they are purposefully choosing the worst options systematically to kill off faction play. Anyone who plays the game because it says MECHWARRIOR will despise the option of clan vs IS. The universe that spawned from battletech is nuanced, interesting and brutal. Not 12v12 or 48v48 deathmatches ad nauseum. There are plenty of ways to improve Faction Play discussed to death and promptly ignored. Honestly I haven't been in the game for a long period but reducing factions to red vs blue would rapidly put me in the bucket of uninstalling and moving to another option for gaming.

If PGI wants to kill off Faction Play, why not just remove it completely? The... 2 people who play it still probably aren't very vocal on the forums. Posted Image

Pipe dream much?

Here is the sad, but honest truth. CW/FW is an abysmal failure.

It's not even a shadow of what was promised or expected and to do anything to "fix" it will require scrapping most of it and starting from scratch again.

PGI doesn't have the time or resources to address this properly, and won't for a long time or ever. What they need to do is concentrate on all the other issues that this game has and if they manage to fix those, and increase the player base, then and only then should they retool FW.

Doing anything with FW at this point is a waste of resources that need to be dedicated to other aspects of the game.

Faction play needs a game mode with an objective both teams need to achieve, where the map is neutral.

Capture the Spaceport or Capture the Mech Factory. Where the Spaceport or Mech factory is a city-like part of a map of varied terrain. Hills, water, some valleys. Both teams need to capture the objective. The capturing team then needs to defeat the opponent team and destroy their Hrothgar or Overlord dropship wherein the winning team could become the losing team. So once the Spaceport is captured it has some minor defenses come online in 2-3 minutes, enough time for a retreat by the losing team and at least one mech on the capturing team has to hold the Spaceport since it can be re-taken. Losing team can retreat to their dropship which has minor defenses or stay and try to defeat the capturing team. So there is some strategizing and decisions to be made and games are unlikely to end the same way each time.

That mission-mode is just simple enough to be played out in 30 minutes, but leaves players in complete control of what happens.

I just uninstalled the game. That would be the result.

That's why I say the most critical fixes are -

Combine attack/defend to one queue. This eliminates the premade/pug by queue disparity.

Make psr part of FW payout. A high value team beating a low value team makes less. This rewards mixed teams and promotes teams playing teams.

Make rewards equal by participation. So a pug in a winning match gains as much from flipping a world as the 10man he played with.

There's some great ways to fix things for pugs in FW. They should have been done 2 years ago instead of teaming people to hate FW for 2 years and then possibly trying to fix some of it. That's generally too little too late.

1.No.

2.No, but it's a good game and has the potential for greatness.

3.Only if it's a mech I like and want to purchase.

4.Which neighbor? The one I like or the one that I don't? And what if I don't have a dog? Would I pick a dog randomly off of the street?

I disagree with this only because my own little pop-psychology based theory to explain Russ's seeming incredible ego about what he and PGI have done with this game is that he truly believes the exact opposite. That is to say that he thinks CW is in fact EXACTLY what was promised. I've expounded on this before but here are the facts:

CW as originally promised was supposed to be an immersive, interactive experience where players in game conduct affected the map as well as produced real in game consequences for them self, their unit and faction. What people wanted and expected was a map, based on lore, wherein when you did things like say, capture a planet with a mech factory on it you would gain cheaper mechs or prevent your enemy from using certain mechs, or at least affect the cost of said mechs, etc. That sort of thing is what folks expected as being "immersive" and "interactive" in the "battletech game".

What we have instead, is that if we take a planet we get a bit of MC. From Russ's perspective this is the exact same thing. Not a shadow of what was expected, but exactly what was promised: you, the player, and your like minded fellows, take a planet. As a reward you gain real in game currency that you can you to help your fellows lower their costs for actual game content. This is immersive. This is interactive.

When CW was proposed folks expected campaign style fights where the affects of battles were cumulative. One action affected the other as you progressed.

What we have instead is scouting, which if conducted repeatedly and successfully produces an in game consequence ( satellite and Long Tom), which in turn affect invasion mode. This is to Russ's mind the exact same thing, it is immersive and interactive. One mode, one form of battle, affects another.

I think this is why PGI made that oh so lovely FP advertisement video. Why Russ gets indignant when questioned about these things. Why Russ said that FP is going to just have small incremental changes from here on out: PGI and Russ honestly feel that FP is finally at a state which reflects (to their way of thinking) exactly what was promised four years ago. To them the FP mode that we have is not a mere shadow of what was promised. To them it is near perfect.

And that is why this whole "round table" is a total waste of time, and why the FP mode is as good as it is going to get...Blake and Kerensky help us all.
