I haven't really been playing much either. I think I logged on once last month, but even before that I was pretty casual. There's just not enough to this game to warrant a huge time investment.

Plus I've just been completely absorbed into Fallout 4 and XCom 2, though mostly FO 4. While I'm not thrilled they dropped the skill system entirely for perks, just settlement building and crafting custom robots has kept me preoccupied for days and days. I really enjoy building robots. I just wish they weren't so bloody resource intensive.

Of course after XComs last dlc I can build robots there too so now I get torn as to which game to play. The XCom 2 robots aren't nearly as customizable functionally, although they've got way more paint job options. Not sure that makes up for it but still appealing.

Fallout 4 has buildable robot companions...

the assaultron is a beast as a companion...

Oh I know, I love the Assaultron Laser head. Sure, the Robobrain head is more accurate and all, but that eye laser of doom is so entertaining.

On my last play through, I let me Assaultron slaughter BoS Knights and Paladins, that thing killed them faster than I could, with a Fat-man....

My favorite build is Assaultron laser head, Sentry body w/ 2 cluster bomb launchers, Assaultron arms & legs, Unstable Minigun & Missile launcher or heavy flame thrower and just kick back and watch the fireworks. Haven't tried the Fat Man launchers on it, makes me a bit nervous.

You and me both...

I've been doing the weapon Assaultron Head, Sentry torso, Gatling laser right arm, power Assaultron left hand, Assaultron legs and shoulder missiles, she just murders things I actually feel like I'm cheating a bit...

Haven't read all of this thread, so my apologies if someone has already made this point. At the end of the day, I think the biggest problem was clearly illustrated with the whole mini-map fiasco. PGI simply does not have folks working for them that really use and play the software. No one who really understood the game and how to play would have done that. I lead teams of engineers and software developers in my professional career. The importance of truly understanding how users do what they do with your product is a crucial step in building a better product.

Sounds like I struck a nerve?

There's a way more TT translation that's been lost in order to dumb this game down to allow simpltons and ADHD players the opportunity to play this game. Let's not pretend this game is harder than it really is...

Half the applied nerfs and buffs and ghost mechanics in place are there because we have magic mouses with both perfect convergence and perfect aim.

This genre has huge opportunity to be much more than some fancy shooter... Sadly it's weighted down by the inference that there's higher level skill required to point and click.

IDk...the fiasco...included using a map pretty similar to what a lot of other shooters and games use... the WoWs map doesn't rotate for instance. And the default fix IMO actually improved things.

I felt even then it was a lot of whining over a pretty minor thing.

The game is barely playable in QP during non-primetime. I just can't adapt to the level of stupidity. I'm not expecting great tactics or excellent teamplay, Too many people running after easy/obvious kills and ignoring the main threat. NASCAR, leaving the slow assaults behind. People vote for the same maps and modes over and over again, they play them the same way and they make the same mistakes. Insanity.

The PSR favour those who live the longest. Sounds good but it encourages cowardice like hiding and using your teammates to draw the fire while staying safe.

Just hope it's not at bad during primetime.

No interest in group play. Too much waiting.

That's the thing, IMO.... I haven't found a single game that realyl grabbed me, not the way MarioWorld 64, Fallout, MW2 Mercs, KotOR, etc, did. (not even Fallout 4)
It seems that as pretty and functionality advanced as modern games are... they really lack in depth, immersion, originality, that je nai se qua that makes them endlessly replayable classics, IMO.
It all feels derivative and throw away, to me. And maybe with our ADHD society, that's the model for making money. But I sure would like to find some games that realyl have me going back for more.

I think it primarily comes down to 2 things:
  • Older games were smaller. Maybe 2-3 guys working on them, maybe 10. Never really 50-200 people working on a single game. It's easier to maintain an artistic vision and be true to that vision when you've got a smaller group of people.
  • In the 90's, I think people made the games they wanted to play. And in those days, there werent 500 games on Steam to choose from. There was a very small number of games. So I think a lot of people made games that would be fun to play for hundreds and hundreds of hours. The games they wanted to play themselves. The X-com games, the Transport tycoon games, the Theme Park/Hospital games, the Sim City series, Civilization, Fallout, Master of Orion, those games were meant to be replayed, I think. Even Dune 2 and Command & Conquer. FPS games are kind of different, but if you look at old FPS game with a degree of complexity, like MW2:Mercs or Rainbow 6, they had amazing replay value too.
I've been playing XCOM2 lately. In many ways, it's better than UFO: Enemy Unkown. But UFO: Enemy Unknown has infinitely better replay value. I must have played 100 UFO: Enemy Unknown campaigns. I doubt I will ever play more than 2-3 XCOM2 campaigns. XCOM2 feels like it was designed to be fun once or twice. Not just in terms of depth and complexity, but just everything about the game.

I feel pretty much the same way. They took a rather convoluted path to address issues they themselves introduced, and what we have left is a bit of a mess. While I don't think it is a bad game, I feel like they've painted themselves into a corner. They could still salvage this and turn it into a more faithful rendition of a BT game, but they just keep right on painting.

So at this point I'm just biding my time until HBS Battletech rolls out. I'm not going to lie, I'm excited about it though at the same time I want to keep a reign on my expectations. But even if it only comes out with half the promised features it has the potential to blow everything else out of the water.

see..this is a huge bit of wrongness.

PSR actually encourages aggressive play..because aggressive, coordinated play is the way to win. The reactive/defensive/pansy team, might take longer to lose, but most time,s lose they will... and as such, unless you are the on average a 450 matchscore a game defensive peeker (hint..you aren't, really) you are still jsut treading water. Because in a win, being mediocre still improves PSR.

And to actually consistently win, you need to be aggressive.

Believing what you just wrote, is why most people just flat suck at this game. The issue is the one or two guys who run off to be aggressive without the rest of the team supporting them, just tend to fail on all fronts. But if people actualyl want to see PSR increase FAST, they need to nut up, croup up and actually push.

Sorry.

I've only played around a dozen matches in half a year and didn't enjoy it much. My problems are:

1: Few maps and gamemodes.
2: Some weapons such as the AC2 is a very unpopular weapon for a good reason. Unless you boat a lot of them with crazy quirks it's futile.
3: CW is so bad i played about 10 CW matches and never touched it again. My problem was the bottlenecked maps.
4: TTK is too short not because the mechs can take too little damage but because there is no punishment for staying at +90 percent heat.

How PGI could solve all my problems....
1: Give us Solaris with a free for all gamemode. 12 or 24 players with no teams. No friends only enemies.
2: There are heaps of ways to fix the AC2. Look at the feature suggestions part of the forums PGI.
3: Whomever decided on those bottlenecks really needs a paycheck cut or get fired. Get a replacement if he doesn't shape up.
4: If PGI made it so we could no longer fire a huge amount of lasers so frequently that would fix a lot.
More variety for mech configs and more demand for skill to fight effectivly. Try out that energy production idea that many suggests on the Feature Suggestions.
Or make mechs more and more sluggish the hotter they are. Even better....combine those two ideas.

I'll come back when they either put in the Solaris free for all gamemode or those solutions to problem 4 into the game.
If that fails MWO losses me permanently and i won't toss in anymore money.

Firepower Superiority wins the game!

That can be Mechs (with more firepower than others) and that can be Numbers (Mechs outnumbering the enemy).

Agressive Players tend to have Mechs that have per se Firepower Superiority.
Also In Pugland the agressive Team often finds a discoordinated defense.

Both together work for the agressive Team >IF< enough agressive Players have been placed in 1 Team.
If not they simply waste themself and probably make the Team lose.

In a coordinated scenarior it depends on the Geography if the agressive or defensive Team wins - which sides Geography allows to multiply the firepower better wins!

I play slow undergunned IS Mechs and can do some supression and assist agression but thats it...

I'm still playing on the regular, but it's starting to feel like work. The game modes aren't varied enough, there aren't enough maps, and...yeah, it seems like the level of play is a crapshoot.

Mechs are in a pretty good place at the moment, at least - there's a huge variety in most queues, so that's fun.

Cyclops is the last mech I bought, and mostly for nostalgia: I'm guessing it'll be little used. If they ever drop a Hatchetman, I'll probably grab that, too, and same for an Assassin, but I really have no interest in Clan mechs and there aren't many IS mechs left that I have any interest in owning.

I'm kind of entering the lethargic burn-out phase, I think. I think MWO has my attention for another few months, and three or four years is a really good run for a game, but I'm just not feeling it so much anymore.

Maybe when I hit General rank in FP, I'll call it good, if I last that long.

speaking of games with fantasy though... I've heard the Shadowrun games from HBS are pretty good? Always liked that franchise. (Though preferred Cyberpunk)

Considering how often it's on sale and how cheap it is even when it's not, it wouldn't exactly break the bank to give it a whirl.

I thought it was decent, but the real appeal of SR TT to me was the magic system, (well OK, and the very open ended character development), and I don't think that the magic system really shines through. It's not bad, it's just not all there. The character development is still there though, mostly intact from what I've seen.

For me, it is PSR. I have been tier 2 for a couple months, and about to hit tier 1. I am not a tier 1 or 2 player. I am an average, tier 3 player, but the way the PSR is set up, I keep climbing. I have a K:D ratio of 1.1, and a W/L ratio of about .0.9. When I drop with tier 1 players, I simply get owned. When I drop wit tier 2 players, I do OK sometimes. Tier 3 matches, I usually end up OK, but I do not dominate by any means.

It really takes the fun out dropping with tier 1 players, and I know it is about to happen more often.

I know how you feel. I consider myself, in reality, a high tier 3, maybe on a good day with a better system than I currently have, a low tier 2. I'm halfway to tier 1, and simply am not a tier 1 player in skill, or mentality, since I would rather play a lore correct game, than a Meta game.

Where I am arguably tier 1 is understanding of the game and tactics, but not in actual player skill.
