Well if he played just the video games, I do not recall reading of the Ares convention anywhere, nor mentions of nukes/wmd, so the question stays absolutely legit to me

As stated previously, using nukes in the battletech universe is a very good way to ensure that there will be nothing even closely resembling a trace of your nation, once everyone else is done with you.

Again, naval PPCs work so much better for this purpose.

Thats gonna be a cool display.

Think about it - Naval size PPC weaponry designed for space warfare and designed to travel for thousands of kilometers.

Still, I think a naval gauss cannon would be more efficient - and probably pack a punch that creates a very large hole...as it goes from head to ******* of an atlas in the blink of an eye...

It's a common mistake amongst wannabe "veterans" that people don't realize Ares Conventions became obsolete come First Succession War and are no longer binding or enforceable. It's merely "guidelines" now, which means anyone is free to ignore them if they think they can take the heat (and they do).

Quote

The Conventions were upheld until rescission during the military buildup leading to the Reunification War[1] and formally renouncement at the beginning of the First Succession War.[2] Despite no longer part of a binding treaty, the Ares Convention continue to be seen as the guide for civilized warfare.[3]

I guess people just remember them vaguely because of "cool" name and namedrop it at every opportunity to flaunt perceived superiority.

Langstes, how long have you been into mechwarrior/battletech that you did not have knowledge of this.?????

some of you guys who are saying "they never use nukes in battletech! because they're wrong!" need to read up on the cannon a little bit. quite a few worlds were nuked into inhabitability during the 4th Succession War/Clan Invasion era

they even had ships that were based around nuclear missiles, like the Killer Whale, in 3050ish

not saying we should have nukes in this game but "no, we wont have nukes because NO ONE IN BATTLETECH WOULD EVER USE EVIL NUCLEAR WEAPONS!!!!" is and idiotic thing to say if you know anything about the game

They aren't saying noone nuked each other, they'e just saying NOONE used them after 1st Succession Wars until Jihad, which is the period we're in. Using them would be a suicide, since all others would declare them as the bad guys and wipe them out of the Inner Sphere for good.

This isn't CoD, also there are, as others have said, The Ares Conventions in the Battletech Universe which prohibit it.

I took off yesterday from work for the 67th anniversary of the Trinity nuclear test. And even I know nukes have no place in the Battletech universe.

So the game effectively turns into two commanders sitting in 100 ton Battlemechs waiting to push the Big Red Button. Wow this is a game i got to play. Push the Button MWO. Game over in 1 minute and counting.

And the "others" are wrong, it's a common misconception. The Ares Conventions were only in effect until First Succession War. They're not legally binding anymore and nobody is enforcing them, the only thing that keeps the Houses from using nuclear weapons is the good ol' fear of retaliation.

Naval bombardment would definitely have more appeal for me then just setting off a nuke, it seems a little to... Mainstream...

would rather not have nukes.

On that line I hope that the comander skills do not allow for a "push a button someone dies" type of effect.
