I bought this super awesome GTX 1070, expecting MWO run much smoother than it did on my old GTX 560, aaaaaand MWO runs at best 80fps with min, graphics settings, DX9, with this glorious 1070! With my old 560 I could chug out a max of 40-60fps at 1028x960(4:3) resolution(DX9), medium graphics. with this new 1070, on medium graphics, 1920x1080(16:9),(Also DX9), I'm getting 40-60fps, and it drops down to 30-20 on some of the heavier maps. I've heard others having issues with the pascal cards in the 1080/1070's. Anyone else having these issues as well or is it just me? I didn’t buy this super awesome GPU to have one of my favourite games do this.

Did you get the 30-20 fps with the GTX 560?

What is your CPU?

Make sure you run max performance preferred for MWO in the Nvidia Control Panel. Otherwise, the GTX 1070/1080's actually downclock to like 1000mhz in MWO because the game isn't graphically intense enough to require the power. I run a i5 6600K@ 4.8Ghz paired with a GTX 1070 on 1920x1080 144Hz and my average fps is 125 (that's with Stock clock of 1578mhz on the GTX 1070, it still refuses to boost clock to 2038mhz in MWO) Strangely enough, on the scorescreen and/or training grounds, my GTX 1070 will boost clock to 2038mhz, but during actual gameplay, it refuses to boost and just sits at 1578mhz.

My 980 Ti is probably just a bit less powerful than your 1070 and I can put out 80+ fps at 1440p on near max settings (particles and effects reduced to prevent fps drops).

Something is definitely wrong here. What's your CPU? MWO is fairly CPU intensive, as I understand it.

Edit: The 1070 is actually more powerful? Wow

I run a 1070 - no problem getting 90FPS in game.

Run some monitor tools, see what is getting maxed out . Like others have said I'm guessing your now bottlenecked at the CPU.

Don't worry to much as other games will use your video card more than you CPU.

Yeah, MWO hogs CPU a lot. What's yours?

At factory shipped clocks, the GTX 1070 is faster than the GTX 980Ti. Once you overclock a GTX 980Ti past 1500mhz, it will surpass a GTX 1070 that's clocked at 2100mhz.

For starters, why in the world are you running DX9 with a modern graphics card? DX9 is ancient, what are you on Windows XP also?

PGI is not investing much in optimizing the game.. if at all.

An engine upgrade is more hassles waiting to happen. It isn't the magic panacea for everything.

I still think the issue is with the NVidia profile (need to force max performance to be sure).

I would rather them work on upgrading the game engine than waste another minute on CW (FW).

Will it be the end all be all solution? Of course not but if they can do it and receive regular updates and optimizations from Unreal or CryTech it will help reduce some of their workload and get rid of other things like scaleform and what not.

It's been hush hush now for a while so I bet it's not going to happen Still it was a bad choice to stick with DX 9.

It's not like they are doing anything with DX11 though.

Exactly Engine Upgrade and PVE and maybe just maybe this game will start heading in the right direction. At least they could sale other things than mech packs.

I upgraded from a GTX570 to a 1070 some weeks ago. Playing in 1920x1080 I got 60 fps before and I get 60fps now (capped by my tv). Max details on both.
The only thing that improved was the frame drop when you shot into the dirt, that particle system dropped my frames down to 10-14 with the old card. This is now gone but it seems the 1070 is bored with this game, at least on that resolution.

if you have on msaa turn it off .. also ensure the nvida profile for mmo does not have any aa or ansio or other netao anti jaggie tech .. as that kills fps in this game for some reason.

gtx 1080 here no msaa ot neato ant jaggy stuff .. game runs 60 Vsync smooth.

cut on neato anti jaggy stuff and ansi frame rate drops to the 30s.

24 mechs plus all the particles I'm sure you'll see your FPS chug in online matches randomly and scratch your head. For example go run the mech academy basic training video and turn off vsync then watch your FPS go from outerspace to 20 or less FPS when they fly into the map. That same issue pretty much happens each time the other 12 mechs get in your draw call range. I know I am getting close to people in MWO when I see the FPS dip -_-

Spoiler

Right now only my CPU is liquid cooled and I plan on building my own custom loop and liquid cooling my Titan X (Pascal) later this year.

A system like this shouldn't see such huge FPS dips and it just shows the age of the engine and lack of optimization.
