This was my original point to this post, I could care less about the rewards, the reason I posted this was to highlight how PGI turns away their player base. I know many players who have spent thousands on this game and now only come on once in awhile to play. They are completely fed up with PGI and are waiting for the next Battletech game, or using this game in a player made league to get what they want out of it. The "Loyalty Rewards" is just another example, in a long line of failures for PGI.

Bought EVERY MOH and COD game since the very first one...got....nothing.
OBTW...with all the Xbox live costs, DLC, supply crates, and farkles that's what some of you have spent on MWO.
So? What's the deal?

You can get the ultimate reward for both tech bases for $160, several (including my terrible self) have spent more than that but do not qualify.

So I'm not sure why everyone is acting like it's a shock that people who can count hardpoints and know value dont' buy collectors packs. I dunno, nothing in the loyalty pack really speaks to me. Pretty low effort looks compared to the stuff with the 3 fates but eh guess it's hard to top that. Honestly man, could of continued that theme for new loyalty mechs and it'd of been pretty sweet instead of the silly hex pattern and now lsd specials.
Eitherway, yeah it's pretty stupid that a dude who has spent less money is more "loyal" or whatever. Then again we are all stupid for throwing money on mechpacks expecting a better product from it.

Btw, PGI is a company...nobody ever said they were an intelligent company or profitable one. If they want to exclude large money spenders from their rewards program, it is their right to do so entirely. Establishing goodwill with your customers is not required, so long as they keep spending money on your products...when you have a captive audience, you can do things like that.

the real reason behind loyalty is a simple marketing gimmick. pgi doesn't care about the people already paying into the game. its the ones not paying that they want to entice. so they offer what amounts to a buy one get one 'free' sale. the idea is to get the freeloaders to buy a mech pack (sound familiar?). even if you get a freeloader to drop 7$ to get a 'free' blackjack, pgi has succeeded in turning a non paying customer into a paying one. then theres that free mechbay for playing some games, thats the foot in the door. so people feel obligated to return the favor and pay it forward.
pgi also wants to make new whales, hence the hierarchy of purchases. thats why you have to buy 5 things to get all of them (or is it 7 things, idk). you are looking at $160 for all top tier + ultimate tier items. throw on some mc. and it only cost them some reskins and a little bit of mech configuration.
if you play regularly you may feel shafted. well pgi already considers you one of the heard, you will probibly will put down more cash to avoid feeling robbed. irony.

Also remember, not everyone is as well off as you may be and the money they spent this year might have been all they had. IF they spent more then what others did and got less rewards it doesn't really strike me as a very LOYAL or ACCURATE program. Its another slap in the face to misinformed or just ignorant customers (not ignorant as a bad thing but just not in the know)
All PGI would have had to do is find out what it COST in REAL MONEY to get all the rewards and if you spent that anyway, anytime, on anything you should get the same rewards. Money is money, no ones is better or worse then anyone elses at this point.

point is, from a business/marketing standpoint, it actually appears to be well thought out, since it is getting people to scramble to upgrade packages, etc. Whereas people are less likely to run out and buy basic packages for mechs they didn't what to achieve the something.
As already pointed out by Alistair, it's not really about rewarding loyalty, but inciting fresh sales of existing assets.
And past Loyalty Rewards programs have proven it's a successful strategy.
