I wonder if he thinks WOT is boring too, since you can get hit multiple times and it can take 15 minutes for a match to end.

DING DING DING!

WoT received the exact same criticism and last I checked wargaming.net was making money hand over fist.

The Gamespy author is a condescending prat, which is spot on for that that crappy site.

A writer who doesn't understand the game subjectively writes a review about the game. Not really worth my time to pay attention to it.

Hey all,

in case you didn't know, gamespy has been covering MWO since the beginning and gave it some good publicity. Unfortunately, in the last Centurion video, the editor wrote that well, the game looks boring to play and might not last long in a world filled with twitch shooters and competitive MOBA games.

Maybe PGI should do some more marketing to adress the fear of some would-be new players?

The dudes name is Cocke... what do you expect? ;)

He is basically a COD fanboi that does not understand what this game is about.. in anyway.

I haven't taken any "mainstream" gaming sites seriously in years...

Mechwarrior (like any game) is not for everyone. The good news is, that as a free to play game everyone can make the decision for themeselves, and do not have to listen to someone elses stinky opion before making a purchase.
Opinions are like a-holes, everyone has one, except bloggers who have one at each end.

When I went to see how to set up MW:LL, to see if I wanted to play, I got as far as "Set up your Gamespy account" and stopped reading there.

They have always been...awful.

I believe I have said this before but as others have so well stated; it is in beta. If you listen to the talking heads, you get what you deserve. I have enjoyed the Mechwarrior series games because I enjoyed meeting (most, some are cretins) the players I encountered and the planetary league team play concept has struck a cord with me. I hope this will be more of the same eventually. I really want to drop on an enemy planet, deal with the defenders, capture the planet, sit in their favorite bar and drink their beer (at least until I can get some decent tequila imported). Battlefield twitch games I can live without. Just my thoughts on this. Incidently MASQ is a Draconis Combine group whose history spans MW2, MW3, MW4.

Gamespy started with Quake.. so it doesnt suprise me they would emply people who like fast paced twitch gameplay

Personally I like both types of games.. Mechwarrior 2 and Quake 2 were two huge games for me back in the day.. loved em both

Bingo, it started as "Quakespy" a free app to find matches for Quake, latter it moved on to Gamespy for other games (included some donate options at this point - I still have a Gamespy coffee mug around someplace). They also worked on hosting for game fan sites.
At any rate as you mentioned in the other post, MWO is not a twitch game if it was a good deal of us would not be playing it.

I am a die hard old school OG mechwarrior fan, but I doubt if this game will be able to capture 100% of my attention. It will fill my need for a giant fighting robot sim perfectly though. And I will maintain my EVE Online subscription for slow-paced, long term character building, and Tribes ASCEND for instant shoot em up. Thats what is awesome about F2P though, I can pick it up and put it down whenever I want without feeling like Im wasting money if I go idle for awhile.

Heh Gamespy trying say something =)

I cant even remember when someone near has said anything else than good jokes about em.

Ergo, cant even care about their comments since they are minority on Influence compared to TotalBisquit and so onl.

That's like the guy who made a whole article about "Why I prefer LoL to Dota" and the article was written this way: "I suck at Dota and know next to nothing of it, so I'll bash it in a stupid article to get people like me boost my ego." It's the same wih this one. He didn' understand few simple terms and felt butthurt. ;)

Psh... they deleted my comment I left. No vulgar language or anything, just pointing out how not every game needs to follow the AAA game formula.

GameSpy has no integrity.

Edit: I lied... it's still there, the page didn't refresh properly. Thanks for the 1up tho VAT!

Well, since it's one of the few sites giving exclusive PC coverage and had a lot of articles on MWO. I think someone who works over there used to play MW2, because they gave this game a lot of attention overall.

I'm just saying perhaps PGI or IGP should improve the marketing for this game if we want it to succeed.

Well now I feel bad, since I made this thread, 12 comments on gamespy bashing the author ;)

Its a valid concern, and I'm sure the developers worry sometimes if they can expand their core audience beyond BT and old MW pc series fans. What if everyone who would be interested is already here?

I think it'll do just fine, but the lack of fast-twitch could definitely limit its marketability.

of course it looks boring.... its oldschool awesomeness in todays "youtooksomehitsnowcowardbehindwallandwaitforregeneration" type of gameplay...

so finally you have to develop skill and tactics in a game

oh how jealous modern games will get about mwo ;)
