With his vast knowledge of the Mechwarrior games that is just the type that should review the game. Ya Right. He probably only plays RPG games cause their real exciting. How can you bad mouth a game that you have not even come close to the final product. Incredible the impression on those that have not know anything about the game. We will need new blood to make this work. This artical sure helped.

Sadly, the editor might be right. So many of this new generation are hyped up on Call of Caffine and Battlefield: Bad Red Bull that that is all they Care about. Grinding EXP, best weapons, golden ammo, cool **** like that. When I showed the gameplay footage that they have showed to a friend of mine in school, he asked me these questions. Does it have regenerating ammo? Can I leave my mech and camp with my sniper? Can I have my mech jump? And worst of all... "What type of car do I transform into?" I think the Devs could use some more publicity, not just from gamespy but on the television too. So many of us are glued to the couch that they could really benefit from some well placed ads on the Television.

I'm not so sure it's the same market anyways. I don't play Modern Warfare or Call of Duty, but I AM going to play MWO. Sure there will be some overlap, but I believe the BT market stands on its own.

Fantastic preview. "I can't be assed to understand what any of these simple things mean, please dumb it down to TRULY make it boring and repetitive and not last long at all." That's what I took out of it, anyway.

How is that any different from playing a shooter that has an M16A1 and L-85A1 and stuff like that? At least in mechwarrior you've got "Autocannon 10" and "Autocannon 20" which even a new player who's never HEARD of MECHS in general, let alone the ones in this game could say "Oh, the bigger number must be better."

8.5 tons of armor is techno babble? Really?

And I'm not quite sure where the basis of "too boring" comes from. Certainly not MOBAs where it takes like half an hour for anything to actually happen while people fight mobs on lanes or hunt creeps while jungling.

Certainly not Call of Duty, Halo or Battlefield which are relatively static in their design over the last few years.

The variant thing is the only technobabbly thing in there, and you could dumb it down for someone by explaining it's like a class in Call of Duty - you want to play as a particular one, but want to change it slightly to better match your gameplay. Oh, okay, it's just customization if I don't wanna do it completely hands-on, wow, that makes things simpler for me who just wants to get into the game faster.

One of my biggest pet peeves is reviews and previews where the person in question just gives their personal opinion without ANYTHING to back it up. What aspects of the gameplay did you not like? How were the controls bad? What graphical problems annoyed you?

Because if you don't have that information, it's just some guy saying whatever popped into his head, and does no one any good in the end.

Someone played the game (that nearly none of us have) and didn't gush with excitement. The comment was more hoping it didn't release as is and if so, does it mean boring gameplay. How many times have you heard Mech Warrior Games are slow and boring....pretty much from anyone that has seen / played and chose to NOT continue playing.

Any negative comment = something like "Stupid troll Gamespy sucks no-nothings I played every Mech Warrior and loyal here's my $money$ you're stupid if you think differently not lol or brb j/k" (yes, bad grammar et al)

=

Day 1 gameplay, MWO fan boy reaction.....

"oh my god PGI...don't you know the load-out of the L14 blah blah is .08 not .085.....This game sucks you are a bad developer I uninstalled right away after 89 straight hours of gameplay I never pay for you'll regret the day you ruined Mech Warrior I'm posting on Facebook I'm sad and I bet you support terrorism my mom says I'm so smart etc etc"

Christ, it just reconfirms why gamers are looked at as annoying immature idiots that live in their parents basement. No matter how many times I see it, read it I cringe. If I made games and saw this as my fan base, I'd have no motivation to continue trying to please such people.

Why hello there. You might want to read the stickies, correct the extremely large factual error in your post and generally try not to act as an appropriate metaphor for irony.

In a world that is filled with twitch shooters we NEED something a bit different. If the CoD maniacs dont like Mechwarrior... then go back to CoD. Sorry if Mechwarrior might require some patience, practice, and a brain to play ;)

my reply to this is...

"Yes, yes he must be...Your research is non-existant, one look at mwomercs.com and the info there-in, you'd might actually start to have a clue. If you honestly believe anything should be dumbed down so you can understand it, that should be your revelation that you are not the one to be writing this article.

Only advice I can give you is this : Go back to bagging at the grocery store. It may be a stretch to get someone to explain how to put food in the bags, much less why you ask "paper or plastic?", but after another 10 years or so, you might just actually get it..."

Was fun writing it =)
Oh, the 1st bit was in response to something like "is this author an *****"

You can say they can suck a lemon all you want, but the fact of the matter is that a majority of the income players which this game needs to survive rely on these types of reviews to make judgements. As someone pointed out the technobabble in the video was rather overwhelming. While I have played a lot of Mechwarrior games in my time, I really couldn't grasp half the crap he was talking about, mostly since I'm not into the franchise at the degree that a lot of you hardcore players are. They need to start turning their attention away from the base and look to grasp more of the casuals and other gamers, otherwise this game will flop.

It was a pretty pathetic article. I don't know why this writer is even given the ability to submit material to gamespy or ign.

Take some time and look the writer up. You'll find http://www.joystiq.c...r/taylor-cocke/
and after reading a few of his articles I get the feeling the writer is more interested in spouting his opinion than spending some time doing a basic amount of journalism by collecting background information upon which the opinion could be grounded.

From what I've read on the forums 20 isn't always better than 10. It's situational. Please try again =-\

He certainly has the right to his opinion, which I defend he has the right ot say but in all honesty, has he played it? All he has seen are gameplay videos it seems. Sure, the videos are boring because they show others playing in what could be your cockpit right now. We need a change from those twitch shooters, and this is what will lead the way. Hell, even stratigy games are becoming twitchier and twitchier. Then again, I still play CoD because I can't play MW right now, so am I any better then the twitchers? I don't think so.
