Personally, I find it a bit lame. It's the classic 'upgrade' where they slap a couple extra tons on, upgrade the size of the weapon and add a number to the end.
But my favorite mechs are the ones that are in and out of universe failures, and the goofiest mechs, both in concept and in appearance, so I try not to judge.
EDIT: We could also argue over what the term 'iconic' means and if the Mk. II actually qualifies, but it seems petty so I personally wont.
