Yes I am an old fart and I read all books and played the "old" games starting with Crescents Hawks Inception ... I know this Mech does not exist in lore and I know there are a ton of Mechs which do exist in lore and aren't in the game yet. But hey... give it a chance

Well, TECHNICALLY, it exists in lore now, since Randall Bills was the one who wrote up the lore and basically canonized it.

Too bad what he wrote was pretty terrible in my opinion. That pilot is really unlikable in particular.

That's a little limited in scope. Davion had their hand in most every conflict from the 4th succession war through to the Fedcom Civil War. Any events not involving them at the time outside of that was treated as a footnote.
4th SW, Check
War of 3039, Check
Ronin War? Sent the Fox's Teeth to train troops
Clan invasion, check
Operation Guerrero, Check
Operation Bulldog? Kurita written up as the herp-derps in the novels. Davion only level headed ones in the lot treated like they ran the show.
Fedcom Civil War - It's right there in the title.
It was gratifying to see them get taken down a few pegs during the Jihad in terms of air-time. They came out of it relatively unscathed save for losing some backwater worlds they didn't care about, but didn't get nuked or lose much of their military manufacturing capabilities.
What's really gratifying though was in the Dark Age, when they're run by a tantrum-throwing first prince who probably marks the first davion "Villain" since... what.. Michael Hasek? They get swept through by both Kurita (finally giving a bit of credence to the image of the dangerous conqueror after the black comedy that was their housebook), and House Liao; though the era starts up with him dying and being replaced with a new, level headed, strategically gifted military man, which again, feels like all the Kurita/Liao gains are just so many dominos set up to be knocked over to show off that Davion prowess.

Two words (and a sentence later)..
4 HIGH HARDPOINTS in the torso in 3/5 variants, one being 4 energy.. ..that is not shabby at all. *drops mic*

And as another argument: remember how many of you critics said that Alex singlehandedly has saved MWO with his art?
That if the game didn't LOOK so good, it might have fizzled out? Well, taking his leash off and letting him design some battlemechs - that may become canon over time - is just about the greatest honor you could give an artist in this niche field. HE DESERVES IT ALL!
Thank you Alex!
^^^^^ This.
The sodium overdose tantrums in the responses to this announcement are pretty funny though!

I suppose you could make it a competition and have us vote on the submissions, if you need to be sure there'd be a market for them.

There is a finite number of mechs that are going to be added into this game. There is no way they are going to get ALL the favorites in, and every made up design is essentially taking the spot of somebody's favorite mech. I hope this is the only one they do, honestly.

What if this took the spot of your favorite mech though?

I really like the design of this mech - perhaps it's because of my love towards the Shadowhawk. Alex Iglesias is very passionate about his work and I believe he deserves a home-brew mech.
Albeit, I wish it had jump-jets to truly have a Shadowhawk/Warhammer hybrid. It is very different from the JagerMech because high power weaponry can be placed at the high mounted torsi, improving survivability with XLs.
I will wait on this to see the reviews and then shell out my mini-whale wallet to purchase it if the mech performs well.
I love the game so far after more than a year of gameplay; my heart still beats fast and adrenaline overloads in close matches.

I don't particularly care that PGI created a new mech with Pharaoh Randall Bills blessing and canonizing today as previous MW titles had new mechs created for them also which were later canonized for tabletop by Randall. That they're fixing the collision system in this month's patch and that the lore around this mech relates to Solaris in particular, and most variants of this mech have the hand actuators (was their omission from hardpoints of the hero Reaver version accidental or deliberate is all I wanna have answered about the Roughneck, since the artwork shows the same hands) gives me a lot of hope that a more effective melee combat is coming, other than the 1 damage point collisions we have now.

1. Design fits the look and feel of battletech, though I've never liked the converted industrial mechs that's a personal taste thing... so thumbs up.
2. High mount weapons along with a variety of weapon types spread across the variants for personal weapon tastes (missile boat, ballistic boat, laser, or mix), along with a model which looks like decent hit boxes could be made well. Thumbs up again.
3. Non cannon PGI added mech? Meh... not for me, but like others have stated most game makers of battletech have done the same, so I won't begrudge them that (so long as it's the only one or only a small number of made up mechs are added). So I'm indifferent.
4. Throwing sexism against females into the lore, after I have never seen any indication of such sexism in any of the previous games or multitude of battletech novels I've read? Seems like SJW crap being shoved in our face, and should never have been brought into the battletech lore (heck if anything the opposite exits more in the battletech universe look to Magistracy of Canopus).
Lore is my number 1 item I want more of in the game. It gives more flavor to the factions and a reason to join one, heck a reason to fight certain battles (Liao vs Davion). Battletech lore is what keeps me interested in battletech after the initial fun of piloting a war mech passes (there are several other mech games I could play but don't cause of my love of battletech lore). To see such crap added to even a small bit of lore around a mech makes me angry. Hopefully it's more of a one time thing. Small timeline changes or other revisions for certain events, mechs, weapons, etc... I can see past. A total revision of the culture in battletech lore to fit someone's political agenda absolutely not.
If it's not in the lore, and does not need to be added to make sense of something (making up a reason for why a planet never brought up in lore was settled etc...) please leave it out.

the Reaver doesn't have Hand Actuators cause its arms are UAC/5s.
they're most likely not on the triple AC/2 one either, since two of those are also arm-mounted.

in fairness, there probably is still SOME sexism there (we've had most patriarchal societies for thousands of years, another thousand wouldn't change that much), and remember Solaris has reps from every house. it's entirely possible she's originally from the DC, where it's more likely to happen than most places. plus, she's really more there to spit in the face of nobles in BattleMechs than guys in them, given she was a lowly PowerMan LoaderMech pilot before becoming the Roughneck's lead test pilot, and then entering the Solaris Arena with her own Customized Reaver Roughneck.
not like a lot of lore that's been kicked around isn't a bit double-standard-ey that already exists anyways.
mean, hell, look at Phelan becoming a Freeborn warrior, for a lot of that book, it's treated like "this literally almost never happens!".....and... yet there's like.. what... at least three other Freeborn that show up, at least one of them notably in a CRUSADER clan (Aidan Pryde) around that same timeframe?
also, the Roughneck IS canon. it's been deemed so by the guy who's written most of the lore. that's not really a fact you can argue. just disagree with.

A head laser, and two ct lasers with shield arms. Go.
Also, as for the sexism thing, it is less about systematic sexism, and more about guys not liking to be shown up by anyone, especially a woman. I don't imagine that will change for a few thousand more years. (But heck, who knows.) Still didn't like that story element.
