People here, sigh

People buy mechs, specifically, for the quirks?
Although they might change because of balance?
Like in any online title?
PGI is not going to reimburse you on the choice of mechs based on quirks

Usually i'd agree, but there are a few mechs out there (QKD IV *cough) which nobody in his right mind would buy without its quirks (even then it's debatable)...

I wonder how much Respecing will cost.

My understanding is that, like just about everything in a good f2p model, that depends on you. You can pay with your time, via xp earned in-game (the grind), or you can respec at your convenience for MC (real $$).

That didn't answer his question. He (and others like me) want real, specific values.

I find it very telling that there aren't any options for Machine Gun or flamer buffs there. Paul's still scared.

In general what you call quirks, models and skills are all abilities
some even over lap and your forcing people to pay for that ability again ( ie pay for what they have already purchased one way or another ). for example:
Allot of mechs have a cool down quirk ( ability ) and module Cool down now for modules (abilities) you will reimburse people but for quirks (abilities) you will not. You will now rename quirks and modules (abilities) and call them "skills" and and charges us for them again even though we ( the player base) at one point have them.

So in short I disagree.

I think its a good thing that PGI comes here to keep us updated on anything that they plan to put into effect with this. Details given will speak volumes to this community, and the very torn love hate relationship many of us seem to have when it comes to MWO.

I didn't really look into the details, however my understanding was that all modules were going away. I may have missed it but some functions (such as the enhanced zoom) don't seem to be replicated in the skill tree. Feel free to correct me if you're a sharper observer than I. :)

Nope, Advanced Zoom, seismic, radar dep, hill climb, target decay, and target info gathering are all in the skill tree.

Okay, will take a look further at the skill tree details then, thanks.

Does that mean that each of those skills/module effects (eg: Radar Dep or Advanced Zoom) has to be re-acquired/grinded for each and every mech?

Is there a discount for skills already learned? Or maybe a 'Pilot Tree' that applies to all mechs, and a Mech tree that mods that mech only?

Maybe once it hit it will finally allow players to make mechs focus and reward their chosen methods of play. Scouts can get all the faster, longer, better sensors while lrmers get all their missile upgrades of lrm speed and spread set at 12.5% for all five levels at 2.5% per level. People who hate the spl locusts/achs/sniper 3ls are going to hate them even more. Mahaha.

To be fair, unless they introduce light and heavy machine guns, and ER and heavy flamers, there's not much reason to have a tree dedicated to a single niche weapon. The Gauss Rifle is different given its commonality and usefulness.

That said though, if they made an MG and Flamer tree tiny, only needing a few points to max them out, that would be fine.

I understand the idea of refunding the cost of prior modules and skills so we can use them on the new skills. I hope that they are not going to hugely increase the time to mastery, otherwise we have to play fewer mechs than we might want to do. Also I and many others would master three variants of a mech and sell all but our favorite. I am not sure what is going to happen to the experience on the many mechs I mastered and then sold, since I will need that XP back. Do I have to rebuy the other variants to do that?

My most favorit mech and build will be so imba that even the gods themselves will tremble in their unholy heavenly homes.

Make it happen already

Damn! So I'll still need to level up the basics on two other chasis before mastering the one I want to play.

Thanks for the quick reply, Gentleman Reaper!

Did he say this before, or after the rage about the skill tree started, because the short introductory film clearly stated Quirks removed and a blank area.

It didn't state quirks reduced.

it was said on Twitter after Mech Con, but i doubt that this was an after thought,
everyone knows all mechs are created equal, and such un skilled Trial mechs would be way imbalanced,
as such i feel they always planed to have some Quirks stay as Russ has said such was always the intention,
