Cicada being the same capacity
Lights have half the Z thrust the Meds do, hence fewer Med HoverJets™ being superior to 12 Light HoverJets™

Isn't that sad?
Viper having better Hoverjets than the Spider-5V, defeats the point of the Spider-5V and then some.

I'd honestly forgive them for the rescale thing if the 6 tons of jets on my 30 ton mech actually lifted me higher than the 4 tons of jets on my 40 ton mech.

I thought the point of the Spider-5V was to be the absolute worst a mech can be?
The 12 JJs just mean it can spend a little more time as a floating target in the sky. I did my time in the 5V, and it's one of the few mechs I sold straight after the grind - and I enjoy stock Urbie.

But yes. Poptarting? Meds and heavies do it better. Scouting? There are mediums with enough speed and better payload/armor. Flanking? We have fast heavies and mediums. Fire support? Rather see my fre support from a heavy, in which their fire does real damage. Pocket heavy? Most meds will do it better.

But I'll say the crazy things people don't expect to hear out of anyone. The Spider 5V is NOT a horrible mech. It's extremely fun to pilot. Speed, mobility and jump capability allow for some interesting hit and run tactics... Urban fighting on more than just ground level, and the 30% energy cooldown stacks nicely with 2x MPLs. It's the Spider I had most fun piloting. I reached Tier 1 while doing my SDR-5V, and ironically it is one of my BETTER mechs that I piloted.
I'll let a video of it speak for me.

Viper and Cicada 3F with 8 JJ = 105.47 m
Spider 5 V with 12 JJ = 104.06 m
Phoenix Hawk 1 with 8 JJ = 93.75 m
Assassin with 7 JJ will be next with 92.29 m when released.
Yeah, it's sad that Spider doesn't win despite spending 50% more tonnage on JJ's compared to CDA/Viper.

5V has a lot of problems and yeah it's the worst mech in the game.
Same engine cap as the 5K.
Only 2 hardpoints, both CT.
Quirks that don't put it above the 5K.
More Jumpjets, but no bonuses for them.
You can use it as some sort of sniper, but the 5K does it a bit better because of the better cooldown.
The highest damage it can do is with 2xmedium pulse at 12 damage. It does 11 with a LPL and 9 with an ERLL.
To me it is the worst light mech in the game.

And yet like the locust, its just fun to play.
And I can manage 500 dmg per match, when the starts align on the day of a full moon during the winter solstice on a clear night.

I'm all for having fun, but it would be nice if it was brought up to snuff somehow. Should at least have the same cooldown bonus the 5K has.

Has the SDR-5V ever been close to being OP? Has it ever been close to being a top light? Even a good light mech?
Paul, give us some Aggressive balancing please.

It was always the 'crap' spider. Either the 5D was better because ECM or the 5K was better because of quirks. I even think the Anansi beats it, just because of the different weapons you can put on it.
Think about it, a 30 ton mech with less hardpoints than the lowest hardpoint locust.....and the few it has are both CT!

The funny part is that most CT hardpoints are pretty low.
I keep advocating for increased pitch on the 5V (since aiming up or down is a PITA, depending on your angle, especially on a JJ capable mech), but that usually fall through deaf ears.
Oh well. the Spider-5V has endured suckage for 4+ years, and the tradition will likely continue.

I meant low as in it doesn't have anything but CT hardpoints and that the locust with the least hardpoints (LCT-3V) still has twice as many.

I'm aware of your context - I'm just adding to a more important aspect.
The Lolcust has its own set of love-hate (1E masterrace with a few other superior troll options).

This needs to be tested in training grounds, there is not numbers to tell us.
I would not be surprised if the Shadowcat wins because MASC gives a good boost.
Anyone have a friend to test this out and record? Just for the fun...
Spider 12 JJ vs. Shadowcat 6 JJ w/MASC vs. Viper 8 JJ

It does not.
Tonnage already affects the height/lift of JJs, and it's already 5 tons bigger and has LESS JJs than the Viper itself.
MASC can affect it a little bit, but honestly if you drive any JJ capable mech up an angle before using JJs, you can get better lift than as stated on the JJ info listing. Although, this is more an aside than anything else.
Scats are "good enough" jumpers, but not prolific.
