I like it, I think it could be decent, but it is just difficult to say right now. It is probably one of those mechs that is best looked at after it comes out.

I don't know if the the standard pack will actually be mech-wise worth the money, but the pre-order bonuses are not that bad if you care about three new colours, two decals, 6,5 million c-bills and 30 days premium time.

As long as someone doesn't own too much of the mentioned things above, the pre-order bonuses make the standard pack very interesting, imho...

I'm still in two minds on the standard pack, it's a pity that you will only get missile/ballistic combos if you bought it, and the only way to get energy mounts is to buy either the hero or the reinforcements pack (like, really? Posted Image). However, I do like the powerhouses you can make out of it, like the RGH-1C for example:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...d88b7b7d022ce52
that variant is 10 damage away from the AS7-S's AC20 and 4 SRM6A's.

Its fun, and feels different than other IS heavies. It is very tanky and is very XL friendly. It rolls damage well and has the right weapon options to complement brawling/torso twisting.

If you can only ever embrace the meta, then this isn't the mech for you. If you can make other mechs work, then it is a lot of fun.

I scored 600dmg in an unmastered reaver yesterday, that mech is pretty badass.

Still trying to find a comfortable build for the 1A. The 1B i havent touched yet and the 1C with the build linked above is really the only way to go on that mech.

A bit curious, but to me only the Hero and the 3A looks interesting and they are pretty damn expensive to get right now...

So far the best i can come up with:

Roughneck = http://mwo.smurfy-ne...edab6705b76cac1

1A = http://mwo.smurfy-ne...2d18c661cfb0756

1B = http://mwo.smurfy-ne...c72e84bfe42e58a

1C = http://mwo.smurfy-ne...37e7651caa056fe

Not meta by any stretch, but fun.

For me the 3A looks the most dull. Oh look, another meta laser boat, exciting.....

I'd buy it for the looks alone.

Who needs some fancy Omni Mech or Kodiak when you have an Industrial Mech retrofitted for combat. That's like, the most raddest thing ever. (Well, except for retrofitted agriculture mechs)

I'd bought it if they had diesel sound in the cockpit and whistling from the turbo, like in lore.

The RGH-1A is a nice SRM brawler with all the structure and armor quirks.
For the other two variants from the standard pack I didn't figure out a good build yet.

RGH-3A also is a nice laser vomitter but it's behind another paywall...

However, I think that with the introduction of the new tech, that all Roughneck variants will heavily profit by it and in case that the current quirks should remain they simply will become awesome mechs, especially brawly...

I have seen many people mention the 3A when talking about the rougneck. I honestly dont get why everyone is so obsessed with it. There are various other laser boating heavies that are better for it.

Its not worth buying if you just want to use it like every other pilot that wont use anything outside laser vomit or PPFLD sniping.

Symetrical, cockpit-level torso energy mounts mean you can do what the other energy boaters do, but safer. It's pretty much custom designed to add another ERLL Battlemaster to your dropdeck when you are out of tonnage for another ERLL Battlemaster.

This is my 3A. Its the damn 315 engine cap I hate about them... on a mech I'd otherwise want to run a pair of ERLL with the MPL and a 325 and stick another DHS into the engine...

But SRM is a poor choice for heavies (for this one) ... 270m, low flight speed ,etc.... with the 315 engine cap you can't even rush properly

edit: it can be good, but once in a while, can't rely on srm on everyday basis

400 meters per second is a low flight speed ?

Take a moment to look at and read the posts made when this thread started, and then laugh.
Some pretty heady individuals throwing about their expert, veteran edged opinions.

Then take that viewpoint and apply it to any subject and viewpoint presented henceforth.

So far on the hero, I've run anything from 4 ml, 2 UAC5 (chassis made for it), Guass-ERppc and 3 ML, to the k-2 esque, 2 ERPPC 2 ML, 2 machine guns. Having lots of fun trying various builds, and it has nice flexibility for bouncing between XLs and STD engines and maintaining some firepower.

Roughneck 1B:
http://mwo.smurfy-ne...791b2b11b132465

I don't even notice the STD260 engine - just press W and don't stop. The 20% ballistic cooldown + AC5 cooldown module makes it feel like the old Dragon 1N.

I personally like the Roughneck a lot, both in its visual style and how generalized the hardpoint spread it. If you want to boat, get a rifleman, jager or whatever else. If you want a versatile mech that is good with or without XL (but better with it) and you can run fun builds, get it.

I have had a lot of fun running around with all kinds of different experimental builds on the Reaver alone. I have enjoyed 4 LPL,2 machine guns the most on that chassis, but I also had fun running running 2 UAC5 and 4 ML. I watched Sean Lang run 2 ppc and gauss on the reaver (not my cup of tea but meta is going to meta). I also tried running the other variants but I am still trying to figure out what loadouts I like on them. The 1A(S) i played around with running 2 LB10X, 1 ML and SRM6, I like it (I run a cyclops in a similar loadout) but I feel like I need to make some slight change to it to get it into the groove. Havent played enough of the other chassis to really decide what I want because they need more games and customizing. But so far I really like the Reaver and 1A.

I cant decide whether I like running XL on the chassis. it free's up a lot of weight and gives you good speed, but the mech dies so fast to meta builds. But on the other hand standard engines take up nearly 1/3rd of the tonnage of the mech, and armor takes up nearly another 1/3rd. I think its a mech that will really see some love when Light engines come out.

I like this mech more than I thought, but I really like ShadowHawks! This plays like a slower, tankier 'hawk without jump jets. And better visibility!

1B has turned out to be my favorite. 2 LBX 10, 3 SRM 4s, a so, with an XL engine.

With the current map design - all sniper friendly - you do not need more mechs because most will stuff a combination of ppcs/gauss into them or lasers.

I bought the standard and reinforcement pack. Got a sweet brawler that is super tanky with decent torso twist speed, and the cannon is right next to the cockpit so you get to see it fire which is badass. The mounts are all incredibly high and the hardpoints close enough to have little spread issues which makes hill humping a breeze. Forgot which variant it is because I'm at wrk. The only other on I have put together is the full laser vom one, and its mounts were amazing too but I only had one game in it.

Its too early to tell for me though. I'll be back later to give a full opinion. I gotta master em and do at least 30 drops fully mastered before I can give an honest appraisal.
